Wow I can't believe they gave Brown a major for that knee. Should have been a 2 minute if anything. If anything Hertl put his knee out even further than Brown's into that one.

To add on to the terrible ref work in this Kings game, the puck hits the net, all the Kings point at it, no whistle gets blown and the scramble after almost leads to a Sharks goal.

So Martin Jones moves to 7-0-0 this season for the Kings. He gave up a goal, which actually hurt his GAA. He has been very good for the Kings. Had no idea what to expect from him, and he has been great.

The other guy who has been a force every night is Tyler Toffoli. Of course the biggest surprise to me this far has been Dwight King. He has been playing great and showing some offensive skill I had no idea he was capable of.

I can't wait for tomorrow. I wanna see the Bruins get even more frustrated. It's so great watching them get frustrated by being beaten by a Buffalo team that has not been very good at all this year.

Re: The Official 2013-14 Regular Season Talk Thread

As a Wings fan, I don't think this team is going anywhere. Even if fully healthy, the only reason Detroit would have a shot at going deep in the playoffs is because the East is fairly weak.

It'll never happen, but I wouldn't be upset if Holland sold a few pieces. Franzen, Bertuzzi, Cleary could all be dealt in order to get a few picks.

What concerns me about this team, and it's future is we don't have any stars between the ages of 22 and 30.
I think Tatar and Nyquist are going to be good, but they're not ready to carry a team yet. They're at least 3 or 4 years away from being legit top-6 forwards or even stars.

I'd love it if Kenny was able to ditch Weiss. He's been completely useless. Maybe he'll be better once he gets healthy, but he's had a lot of problems clicking with this team thus far.
There are games where I don't even notice he's in the lineup.
Maybe Babs should put Dats on his wing?

I'm starting to lose some faith in Holland. Tootoo was a brutal signing. Letting Filp walk for Weiss (might not have been his fault though) and then resigning Cleary.

We're kind of stuck in purgatory. We're not even close to being a Cup contender, but we're a playoff team.
The problem is, I don't Detroit has a strong enough fanbase to survive a total rebuild.

Agree w/ you re: the Wings. They're sort of what NBA types say is the worst thing you could possibly be, which is mediocre. They need to get worse to get better, and that probably means getting younger at this point. They have enough pieces to be competitive on a semi-nightly basis, but not enough to threaten any of the true contenders. That playoff hot streak last year was a bit of a mirage, and in retrospect it may have been better to have missed the playoffs completely so that the harsh light of reality would have been cast on the team, which was really mediocre at best for most of last year. I mean, we do have a lot of guys out with injury right now, but even with everyone healthy, it's not like we have the pieces to make a cup run.

I think the Wings fanbase, in addition to being spoiled by winning, is probably also suffering from being in metro Detroit during a less-than-optimal period in the metro area's economic history. The Joe won't be insane like in the glory days every single night, but for the long-term health of the franchise, it might better to take some near-term pain for longer-term gain. But that would require some cajones on Holland's part to fully commit to.
