I'm 19 and in finishing my second year of college. If I had money to spend, I'd eat more than Ramen noodles.

I am very frugal though. To be fair, I'm also fairly anti-social as a consequence of a series of unfortunate events in middle and high school that I never developmentally recovered from.

Sorry to hear that. I'm a broke college student and live off of about $200 a month. Dollar store grocery shopping, that's where I'm at lol. Sadly, a disproportionate amount of my money goes towards alcohol too haha.

The same thing with "who were they bidding against". Lets say you jump onboard with Arizona, Jacksonville, whoever and hold off until SF lowers the price. Then they're all back in the mix and there's a chance KC doesn't get Smith at all. We're not working a Madden trade machine. If you definitely want a guy you make an offer that TAKES the other competition out of the equation. That's what they did.

I disagree with the idea that there isn't a better player they could draft at 33. But there definitely isn't a better QB and that's what they need. It also frees them from thinking about risking the #1 overall on one of these QBs with question marks and focus on drafting a guy that's more likely to be a starter and probably pro bowler for years to come.
Right, the bottom portion of your statement is what I was getting at. As far as the QB class, that's not even a question of how weak it is.

Again, SF made out like bandits

It's more than was initially expected, but there's no large bump coming from the new TV deals that some might have been expecting. Without doing the math, the average starter's contract is ballooning much faster than the salary cap, which will cause big problems for teams down the road doing all of these restructures. (can explain what that does to the cap if you're not clear)

History of increases from Wikipedia:

Year Maximum Team Salary
2012 $120.6 million
2011 $120 million
2010 Uncapped
2009 $123 million
2008 $116 million
2007 $109 million
2006 $102 million
2005 $85.5 million
2004 $80.582 million
2003 $75.007 million
2002 $71.101 million
2001 $67.405 million
2000 $62.172 million
1999 $57.288 million
1998 $52.388 million
1997 $41.454 million
1996 $40.753 million
1995 $37.1 million
1994 $34.608 million

Re: 2013 Transactions Thread

Great post mestevo. There are QBs right now that make 59% of the 1994 team salary cap. Crazy to think about. Yeah, the NFL is about to correct itself with player salaries in the near future.

Re: 2013 Transactions Thread

Yep. All the contract restructuring going on right now is just deferring the cap hit to future years. It's going to get ugly for some teams soon.
