Noob question....how heavy are the RPG elements in this game?

Or is it more just a Halo/COD with more immersion and customizable elements?

I have to say this game was of very little interest to me and a definite miss until on a whim I tried the beta. Was really impressed. Looking forward to it coming out for sure.
