Re: Star Wars Outlaws

I have UPlay+ Premium so I just preloaded it on my PC. Browsing Twitter and Youtube, a lot of people got the game over the weekend. Some like it, some don't.

I actually Pre-ordered a retail physical copy at Gamestop a week ago which was conveniently located next door to my barber. I'll pick up my copy tomorrow.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws

Early reviews are in and they are pretty mixed.

Some hate it, a few really like it, but most are in the kind of 7/10 to 7.5/10. A pretty good game that doesn't really shine. It will be interesting to see what the user score ends up being.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws

Looks like I'm going to use a combination of 70% trusting my gut and 30% reviews on this one. With that in mind I think I'll be picking this one up. Massive Entertainment are the team behind this, they did both The Division game and Far Cry 3. If nothing else the world building should be great and if the story is on par with most SW movies (which aren't story masterpieces to begin with) then it's good enough for me.

Star Wars fandom and hardcore Ubisoft haters are a interesting bunch alone put them together and it's a s***show. Certain sections of the internet were trashing this game soon after it was announced for no other reason but a weird that hatred for all things ubisoft and being crazy protective of SW. So I can't trust the general internet public to much on this one.

That bit of criticism is a bit disingenuous.

The criticism leveled at Ubisoft that was so widespread that even Ubisoft responded to it was in regards to their pricing and season pass. Which was not uniquely unpopular because of the Ubisoft logo next to the game's title, but it was unique in that it was locking day 1 single player story content behind a paywall (content around an iconic SW character to boot). If that has happened before then there are not many examples of it, but even less extreme examples from other companies have been similarly criticized. I believe that the $110 price tag of the Gold edition versus the industry standard $100 was also a point of contention.

The above may not impact the quality of the game, but I think that it's always important to acknowledge the reason behind criticism before just dismissing it as nonsensical.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws

I'm not speaking about that particular incident which is a fair criticism. Unless I'm mistaken, the specifics of the games day 1 content being paywalled came later. I'm speaking about the announcement that Ubisoft was working on a Star Wars game and immediately getting hate. So for now I'm standing by my initial statement.

Enjoyed your take on this. I agree with you about how over the top the anger is however;

Add us Star Trek fans who are upset with Ubisoft in which the way they treated/abandoned Flight Deck. I've let up a bit and getting Outlaws but don't discount the numbers they've mostly pissed off and the bitter taste I had when preordering.
