2k9 was the worst NBA 2k game I've played. I date back to 2k6.

Lol yeah it's like bizarro world.

Is it just me or does 2k10 have by far the best dunks ever seen in any basketball game? I still see new animations fairly regularly which is amazing seeing as i have been playing for this long. They could still be improved slightly but seriously some of the dunks/ tip slams / oops are a thing of beauty.

Re: NBA 2K9 > NBA 2K10

Not....Even....Close.

2K9 was one of the worst 2K's in a long while. Easily getting into the paint, the CPU cheesing backdoor cuts, horrible movement and control, some unstoppable animations like the layup from the free throw line that you couldn't block at all, and on and on. There's probably a ton more I'm missing but I haven't played that game in a long time.

2K10 still suffers from a few of those same issues like the control and getting into the paint too easily but it's still miles better than 2K9.

Re: NBA 2K9 > NBA 2K10

I don't play online so i have no comment there. Bit speaking offline, I like how each player's game is different. From Lebron vs. Melo dunking. To Rondo/Parker driving to the paint vs. D.Will/Nash more all around game. I say 2k10 is the first game that actually knowing your opponents weakness, helps you win games. Why the hell would I crowd Rondo at the three point line? That's why it's tougher to guard player like Kobe, Melo and Durant. They have both inside and outside game. And it should be a challenge guarding these guys. 2k10 dominates the previous games in this area. Mismatches work you see the AI actually going to mismatches...for some reason your pg is on a big, you will see the the cpu go to post. Also in 2k9 there were way too many "Sir Bench-alots" coming in the game and behaving like the second coming of Jordan. I don't see that in 2k10. 2k10>>>>>>>>2k9.

NBA 2K10 features the best dunks I've ever experienced in a video game. There were a number of small details they improved upon between 2K9 and 2K10 that made a big difference.

First, it seems as if dunks go down with much more authority this season. They're slammed through the rim rather than getting caught in the net like a jump shot swish animation. On that same hand, not all dunks go down in the same fashion. As everyone knows from being a weak dunker at some point during My Player Mode, some slams rattle in. Some slams go down with force, but not before the ball hits a piece of the rim on the way down. The variation in how the ball finishes makes each dunk appear that much more realistic and authentic.

Second, the implementation of strong hands has made a huge difference (right handed vs. left handed). We now see a lot more unique animations where players have to adjust their bodies to rise and slam with their right hand (because they may not be as strong with their left). I never thought this change would make such a profound difference.

Third, the hand-to-rim physics are the best to date. Some of those power two hand, hanging guard slams I see Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose pull off at times look too legit. . .too legit to quit.

Finally, the addition of frequent (and pretty realistic) tip dunks has been a game changer. This was one of those things (we all have 'em) I'd been requesting for years so I'm obviously pumped it finally came through. It adds another dimension to the game. And, as you mentioned Jonesy, I'm still seeing new animations - either in alley, tip, or normal dunking form. It's awesome.

Re: NBA 2K9 > NBA 2K10

NBA 2K1 on the Dreamcast had some sick dunks. What was really realistic/authentic is that the first few minutes the player is in the game, he will do flashy dunks. But the longer they are in the game without getting subbed/rest they will start doing more basic dunks.

So for example I start a 12:00 min game as the Raptors. At around the 10:30 mark I do a sick windmill for Vince Carter. As the game approaches 5:00 left in the 1st quarter Carter will rarely do any more fancy dunks but more basic dunks.

They should bring this feature/realism back. In real life when players get tired being in the game so long without rest, they don't do as many flashy dunks(except some elite players like LeBron).
