Yup. 2K-2K2 on the Dreamcast had tip dunks.

Hah, Dreamcast, I am envious. I was still on my N64 at that point, putting in work on NBA Live 2000. My 2K memory only goes back to 2K2.

For the record, 2K9 had tip dunks too, it's just that they happened once every forty games. It had been so futile for so long (in the tip dunk department) that I honestly can't remember if the early versions of 2K ever had them done in a realistic manner. I'll have to take your word on the 2K's prior to '02.

No way, 2k9 post game was way better an smoother

2. Much better court spacing/player size.
agree with this one

3. Arena specific chants/songs/sounds on defense and offense.
I never heard any chant/song a (I only play online leagues, I don't know if this is the problem)

4. Shot animation was faster. More realistic because in 2K9 it was too slow and too easy to time a perfect release. Also it was easy to block shots in 2K9 because the shooting motion was slow.
Shot animations in 2k10 are too speedy and definitely suck, and that's why they are implementing new shooting mechanics for 2k11

5. Better CPU play by the AI especially on the offensive end. Faster shooting animation in 2K10 also makes playing against the AI tough as I get faked all the time in when the CPU shoots. Makes it realistic.
I hope you are kidding on this one, 2k10 has without any doubt the WORST AI ever made on a basketball game

6. More play-calling to choose from. In 2K9 it was 8 at one time while 24 in 2K10.
Who cares about more play-calling if the system is TOTALLY BROKEN?

7. Much better and deeper commentary. Also in-game player/team stats during the game was a great addition in 2K10. 2K9 barely had this.
Not for the online players like me, as I never saw any stat overlay playing this game

8. NBA Today/MyPlayer modes were a great addition to the game.
There we have another broken feature like NBA today, where you can't even set the quarter duration (at least online) and you get FAQ errors everytime. My player is also totally broken

9. Although lead pass is still a problem in 2K10, it was much worse in 2K9. Also full-court accurate bullet pass in 2K9 was a major problem and fixed in 2K10.
I don't be sure about this...

10. The addition of contact in the paint in 2K10 made FG% much more realistic in the paint area. 2K9 there was no contact which made it a layup drill.
That animation simply SUCKS (yes , there is only one) and it's totally unreal. They made the cheesiest 2k game ever and they tried to tune it down with that crappy animation. Pathetic.

11. No more crazy dunks in traffic/triggering layups/dunks from the Free Throw line which occurred all the time in 2K9. This is in large part due to court spacing/player size being improved in 2K10.
I see way more of these things in 2k10

12. Player Ratings being expanded from 25-99 in 2K10 instead of 50-99 in 2K9. Greatly improved how a scrub/role player/star should play. This added more variety in Overall player rating.
Agree

13. Adding more player attributes. Such as low-post scoring and inside scoring.
agree

13. Although some player faces became worse in 2K10, the overall atmosphere/color in all areas of the game was much better compared to 2K9. 2K9's colors looked stiff while 2K10 was more pleasing to look at.
agree

14. Double teams was a long scripted process in 2K9 but in 2K10 it was not.
agree

15. The addition of canned block animations. In 2K9 blocking was terrible. I wish the AI can do the canned block animations in 2K10. They did in the Draft Combine. Why did 2K remove it in 2K10?
Canned block animations (like most of the animations) are the worst idea ever. A lot of 2k10's blocks look totally unreal because of this

16. Putback layups/dunks being much more frequent and realistic in 2K10 was a good addition. Although sometimes it looks like the defender should get the rebound but instead the put-back animation wins out.
HELL NO, this game looks like nba jam some times because of those put-backs, you don't see 10 putbacks every game on real life...

17. More variations of runners/drifters/fadeaways. Also the additon of leaners was nice.
Agree here

18. Additon of walk-the-dog.
agree

19. Addition of kick ball violation.
agree

20. Much deeper player tendencies. This also plays out very well in the game.
agree

21. Additon of pregame rituals/Keys To The Game. Game presenting holidays in overlays and commentary.
Lebron, Wade, Carter, Dwight, I didn't see anymore pre-game rituals so not a big deal. Holiday overlays and commentary are not working in online leagues so I don't care

2k10 was the worst and most arcade game 2k has ever made. And that's the main reason of why they are getting back to the old 2k7-2k8 gameplay style

Revisionist history rearing its ugly head again. I popped in 2K9 last week for nostalgia sake, and it pales in comparison in every category to its successor.

it sounds like all you do is play online... obviously it isn't gonna be realistic online. Offline, this is hands down the most realistic game of basketball I've played. And this is easily the longest I've played a game without getting tired of it (other than popping in NFL 2k5 or APF 2k8 every once in awhile)

That's actually a good point. Often, when I see threads like these (where one person is on the complete opposite end of others) it's often due to a divide between how players like to play (online vs. offline). I've played a few games online against random opponents and it appears to be a wholly separate experience from what I had offline. I can see where someone who plays only online against random people could be frustrated in many regards.

I think this game is absolutely fantastic offline. I have not played online nearly enough to carve out an accurate portrayal.

No matter how awful you think 2K10 is, if you haven't played 2K4 you have no idea what "awful" means.
