Re: Whatever Happened to the Patriot Way - A Madden NFL 25 New England Patriots CFM

A quarter of the 2014 NFL season has already passed and things look like they might be taking shape. The Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are all undefeated. The most surprising team among the ranks of the unbeaten are the Browns who finished with a 5-11 record last year. on the other end of the spectrum, you have the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville, Jaguars and Miami Dolphins all without a win. An 0-4 record for the Panthers and the Cowboys puts their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Also, they seem to be heading in the opposite direction of the Browns. Last year, both the Cowboys and the Panthers finished with a 11-5 record. Dallas even won the NFC East last year. What makes the situation in Dallas even more strange is the fact that Tony Romo was traded during the preseason. Romo's new team, the Denver Broncos, currently are second in their division with a 3-1 record. A new week gives all of these teams a new opportunity to turn things around while the undefeated teams will hope to continue to do well.

As mentioned earlier, the Cleveland Browns have been shockingly good this year, sort of. Rookie quarterback Chadd Waisome has helped keep things running in place of injured quarterback Brandon Weeden. Despite that, their offense is ranked last in the league. Luckily, the Browns have the 4th ranked defense to rely upon. That formula won't help them win games for too long however. The Browns desperately need some more production from their running game as well. Maybe it will be enough to defeat the Oakland Raiders this week. Against better teams in the NFL, they may not be so lucky.

With the Atlanta Falcons reeling becuase of injuries, now would be a perfect time to strike. Unfortunately, neither the New Orleans Saints nor the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing the Falcons this week. The Saints have helped their cause by winning their last two games and Drew Brees has been a big part of it with his league leading 1,310 passing yards. The Buccaneers will hope to avoid their first losing streak of the season when they travel to New Orleans Sunday. In order to do that, they'll need quarterback Mike Glennon to play better. Glennon is yet to throw a touchdown pass this season. If he wants to establish himself as a long-term starting quarterback in this league, winning on Sunday would be a good way to go.

Re: Whatever Happened to the Patriot Way - A Madden NFL 25 New England Patriots CFM

New England Patriots Scouting Report

With Brandon Spikes now a Washington Redskin and Jerod Mayo on injured reserve, the New England Patriots are without two of their starting linebackers from last season. Dont'a Hightower is currently playing out of position at inside linebacker. The Patriots defense has been playing better, but Hightowers production has slipped. To add on top of that, the Patriots aren't sure rookie Jelani Gibbs is ready to step into a starting role. For the time being, the linebacker situation for the team is in flux. While a draft pick isn't guaranteed to be a star right away, the scouts still have to do their due diligence when looking at players. Hopefully the Patriots scout and plan better than they did last year when looking at the inside linebacker position.

Re: Whatever Happened to the Patriot Way - A Madden NFL 25 New England Patriots CFM

The 4-0 Green Bay Packers take on the 0-3 Chicago Bears this week in what looks like a lopsided game. If the Pittsburgh Steelers going to M&T Bank Stadium to defeat the Baltimore Ravens last week is any indication of what could happen, that means the Bears have some hope. This won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination. The combination of Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson have been lethal for opposing defense. With the Bears currently ranked 29th on offense, they'll have to rely on their defense, which is 2nd in the league, to help them get the win.

Two notable players returning from injuries this week are Russell Okung and C.J. Spiller. Spiller is returning just in time for a big game against the New England Patriots this weekend. The only problem with these players in particular is that they have missed many games because of injuries. Last season, Okung missed seven games while Spiller missed six. Okung has only played in one game this season.

Media Reaction
Mark Schlereth - @MarkSchlerethEA: If thre's a team that's going to trip up the Packers, look to the Bears. In rivalry games anything can happen.
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: Seahawks will have Russell Okung back this week.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: G. McCoy has been practicing all week so no reason to believe he won't play.
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: It's always all hands on deck in the NFL so getting back C.J. Spiller will help this week.

Game Notes
From the looks of the stats, this could be a close game. When the New England Patriots played the Buffalo Bills last, it was a close game. The Patriots won the game 24-19. The Bills are a tougher team this year and look to challenge the Patriots for the AFC East crown again this season.

Extra Notes:
The linebacker lineup is being shuffled this week. Arthur Moats will start at inside linebacker, while Dont'a Hightower is moving back to strongside linebacker. This means Jamie Collins will move over to the weakside linebacker position.

Coming into Sunday's game, the Buffalo Bills had lost the last five times they played the New England Patriots. in fact, the Bills had only won 3 of their last 27 games against the Patriots. Despite how well they've been playing this year, the Patriots were playing even better. Averaging over 40 points per game, the Patriots looked like an offensive juggernaut. History and even the present would have little impact on this game however.

It was apparent from the first drive of the game that the Bills weren't going to be the same team they played in the years before. Getting running back C.J. Spiller was huge for Buffalo and it showed immediately. The Bills' offensive lines opened up big holes for the Spiller to run through. When defenders converged on Spiller, he showed his elusiveness, spinning and cutting away from would be tacklers. in the first quarter alone, Spiller had rushed for over 100 yards.

C.J. Spiller fighting off a tackle by Logan Ryan on the way to scoring one of his two first quarter rushing touchdowns.

The Patriots first drive made it appear as though the Patriots would be able to respond on offense if the defense wouldn't be able to contain the Bills' offense. After the Bills scored, the Patriots answered back immediately with a scoring drive of their own. Things went downhill after that point. The Patriots struggled heavily stopping the run and getting off the field on third downs.

Kenbrell Thompkins catches a 54 yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter.

While the defense did start to play a little better, it wasn't enough to stop the Bills. Already down 17-7 after the first quarter, the Patriots' offense began to make mistakes as well. While Tom Brady has been inaccurate this season, his inaccuracy didn't result in turnovers. In this game it did. Not only did Brady's inability to find his own receivers hamper the offense, there were also dropped passes that ended drives for the Patriots. The Patriots did manage to find the end zone again before the end of the second half on a 14 yard Shane Vereen run, but they were still behind 24-14.

Stephon Gilmore gets one of his two interceptions and Mario Manningham makes a great over-the-shoulder touchdown catch with Aqib Talib all over him.

While the scoring was down in the second half, the outlook didn't improve for the Patriots. The Bills still kept drives alive by converting third downs and the Patriots were completely ineffective on offense. The defense didn't have an answer for Spiller either as he continued to pile up rushing yards. To add to New England's misery, Brady would throw three more interceptions in the second half. Another three field goals and a touchdown in that time frame added left the final score of the game 39-14.

The Buffalo Bills didn't ease up in the second half and E.J. Manuel found Ed Dickson for a 9 yard touchdown pass.

With their bye week coming up, the Patriots could use some of that time to lick their wounds. There's no doubt that a loss like this has the potential to linger for a while. How they respond to it will determine what type of team they want to be. While a 4-1 start to the season isn't bad, this team aspires for something greater.

Game Ball/Extra Rep

Game Ball
Kenbrell Thompkins: Thompkins shakes of the rust from recent weeks and has his first 100 yard game of the season.

Arthur Moats: Despite the defense troubles stopping the run, Moats has a great day, recording 9 tackles.

Devin McCourty: McCourty does well on kickoff returns when Marcus Sherels goes down with a rib injury.

Extra Reps
Defense: The usually good run defense looks terrible against Buffalo giving up over 200 yards on the ground.

Offensive Line: Buffalo's defensive line has it's way with the Patriots offensive line, holding the latter's rushing offense to less than 60 yards.

Tom Brady: While Brady started the game well, it was all downhill after the first quarter as the veteran quarterback throws 4 interceptions.

Media Reaction
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: Nothing better than a win at home. Bills will rest easy tonight.
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: Multiple scores by C.J. Spiller leads #Bills to victory this week.
