outside of a small group of die-hard fan does anyone consider Kevin Smith a good director?

I'm sure most people don't even know who Kevin Smith is.

Re: Your Most Overrated Movie Ever

It was mentioned once in an earlier post already, but I'd have to say that Star Wars: The Phantom Menace may be the most overrated movie ever.

The hype that movie had behind it for years before it was released was unprecendented and to say it disappointed would be an understatement.

Speaking of tarantinto- Kill Bill vol II. Tedious to say the least.
should have been the last 20 minutes of vol I.

I think you're missing the point with Wall-E. It wasn't supposed to be some HA HA funny movie but rather something that is a little more artful. I found the way the story unfolded especially in the first quarter or so when Wall-E was on Earth alone and then meeting ELY was very powerful in how they conveyed feelings and emotions with hardly any dialogue but rather with the use of musical score, great animation and the inflection in the voices of the two characters when they called each other by name.

It was very much a tangible yet ethereal way of telling a story and was a cinematic tour de force IMO. I can understand why some may not have liked the movie that much though.

Wall-E and Cars are the two Pixar movies that transcend the animation genre and were true cinematic FILMS rather then an animated film for people of all ages.

I have slight complaints about the 2nd half but for different reasons. I understand why you don't like the film overall though.
