NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #7 - Creating a Legend - Kobe Rated 94, LeBron 98

Erick Boenisch, Producer for NBA 2K12, back once again.  I’m here today to tell you about a new mode you’ll be playing in the game this year, “NBA: Creating A Legend”.  For this experience, you’ll be taking over the career of any player in the NBA and seeing it through to completion.  In structure and style, this mode resembles My Player in many ways.  If you haven’t got a chance to read my Insight on that mode yet, I recommend you go and give that a read.

The first thing you will do when starting the mode is selecting the player whose career you want to take over.  You can select any player in the league.  If you want to jump right in and dominate, the likes of Kobe, LeBron, and Wade are at your fingertips.  On the other hand, if you are looking for more of a challenge, you can start with a young talent such as a Dexter Pittman or a Daniel Orton and guide them to All-Star appearances, MVPs, and NBA championships.

In NBA: Creating A Legend, you can choose to play as any player in the NBA and play out the rest of their career.  Whose career will you take over?

One of my favorite things about this new mode is that you can take whatever path you want with a player and ultimately change the outcome of his career.  If you want to take a Kobe Bryant and try to match him up with Melo and Amare in New York, go talk to management about a trade and tell them you want to go to New York.  Remember, you aren’t someone who is pulling the strings for Kobe in this mode, YOU are Kobe!

Many of the new additions that we’ve added to My Player this year have found their way into NBA: Creating A Legend, including Contract Negotiations + Spending, the ability to play only Key Games (this gets you through seasons much faster), Player Abilities, Dynamic Goals, all of the new Drills, and much more.  These inclusions are an immediate boost and add instant depth to this new mode.

In NBA: Creating A Legend, you’ll be able to request trades to specific teams (like in My Player).  Your request isn’t a guarantee you’ll end up there, but your GM will do his best to work out a deal with one of those teams.  For you Knick fans out there, this is your chance to bring Kobe into the fold.

My aim and focus with this mode was to provide an experience that even the most casual user with limited playing time could jump right into and enjoy.  At the same, I wanted to provide a feature littered with depth that even our most devoted users would find fulfilling over an extended period of time.  For those of you picking up the game on October 4th, give this hidden gem a shot.  I think you’ll find yourself quickly becoming addicted to what it has to offer.

Because Kobe has never traveled, seriously how old are you. Are you one of those bandwagon ” I hate LeBron even though her never did anything to me and I don't know him” guys? That's exactly how you're coming off. People need to grow up this is beyond childish.

Does anybody know if there will be Hall of Fame speeches for the current NBA players like they're doing for the My Player mode??

I'm not usually one to make a big deal out of ratings, but the fact that LeBron is 98, let alone above 88, is sickening. Did 2K watch basketball last year? I bet Dirk is like an 82. LeBron is going to be rated higher than some of the legends in the game, ugh.

I think great players should be 80-90 and amazing players should be 90-100.. Now, in that matter, lebron would be like a 87, 88

This topic needs to be locked too much personal opinion and not enough subjective viewpoints.

This mode could be really good if they let us use our own rosters, sliders, and draft classes.

now i will say that as much as i dislike lebron he does deserve a very high rating BUT 98 is a bit ridiculous like come on now thats much too close to jordan . a 96 would be perfectly acceptable and btw people kobe is the best player in the NBA so he should definitely have a 95-96 . one off year does not mean the end . kobe's minutes were down and he was hurt all last year and still managed to average 25.2 ppg without any practice at the age of 32 . but now he has had surgery and will be ready for next season whenever it starts so just wait and see what happens .

Wade is one of those players who's game is hard to simulate in 2k11. Durant,Stoudamire,Blake Griffin, and Zach Randolph also fall under that category.

I wouldn't say Kobe will be tougher to stop in 2k12.

2k11 lacks the right animations and attributes to simulate them. Wade and Lebron uses athleticism and absurd lay-up attempts (sometimes flops ) to get to the line, while Kobe and Durant use craftiness.

With the additions of things like Hesitation attributes and better lay-up animations, Wade might finally get a closer simulation to Wade and Kobe might get a closer simulation to Kobe.

2k10 had Wade down better than 2k11, and that was because the first step was actually a factor.

I hate LeBron as much as I've ever hated an athlete, but come on man, you're coming across as incredibly bitter right now.

In association last year, my favourite thing to do was take an unused player and win most improved player. Looking forward to using this mode with guys like..
DeAndre Jordan
Derrick Favors
Gordon Hayward
Anthony Randolph
Patty Mills

They should lower Lebrick's rating to a 5 in the last seconds of the game... He was 1 for 19 in clutch situations last year. Either lower to a 5 or make it so he treats the ball like a hot potato and passes it off immediately in the final seconds. He doesnt have giant huevos like the Black Mamba.

i rly wished guys like u were instantly banned from here.. that would make it such a mature and peaceful place

Banned? Why? All I'm doing is stating facts.

This mode sounds like it could be fun. I would try to bring Odom to NY and have him finish his career at home.

Off topic: Most of you guys are putting too much emphasis on OVR ratings. Especially on the offensive end. Just because a player scores alot of points doesn't mean he should be rated in the 90s. I personally feel that 2k should cut out complete OVR ratings entirely and just give us OFF, DEF, REB and ATH overalls for each player. That way we would understand what they are good at and how to use them
