NBA 2K11: Jordan Moments and Era-Specific Playbooks

Okay so by now you have heard that Jordan will indeed be a playable character in NBA 2K11 in a new feature 2K is calling the Jordan Challenge. Each available Jordan moment has a title and goals that must be accomplished. The difficulty in performing these is greatly enhanced with all of the new gameplay-related updates 2K11 will sport this year. This is much more than just old-school rosters plugged into an already built NBA 2K11.

They went into painstaking detail to include the old-school arena floors and in some instances the actual arenas (The Forum is Alive BABY).

As a fan of the NBA in the '80s and '90s, it did something to my spirit to see Magic at the point and Worthy and Scott on the wings. But everything is taken to another level entirely when you see the red endlines and look up and notice the familiar Forum trappings.

What also adds to the experience is the fact that the announcing team has game-specific commentary, and in cases where it makes sense, they provide information on what happened in games leading up to the game you're playing for the challenge.

Since we can't talk about everything in detail yet, I know the members of the SIM Nation will be excited but reserved until they can learn if the gameplay is up to par with this new Jordan-centric mode. While it's much too early for gameplay information, I can share a small tidbit you will only find here at Operation Sports: NBA 2K11 -- with prodding from the Czar -- decided to include era-specific playbooks to support the gameplay in the Jordan Challenge mode.

So not only will Jordan physically change over the course of the mode and become more physically built and have less hair, but you will be able to watch the offense he works out of evolve as well. Jordan in '86 did not have the dominant post game he sported later in his career. The Jordan who exploded on the Knicks for his infamous double-nickle game was just coming back and was not in great shape, so the majority of his scoring was done in post-ups and 15-18 foot isolations. There are enough offensive tools to provide die-hards everything they need to accurately re-create Jordan's moments all the way down to the offense.

Before I go I will just throw this out there because I know my community: YES, you can use the classic teams in Quick Play mode while trying to stop Jordan in his tracks. Good luck!

P.S. A reliable source informed me that if you just want to take one of Jordan's Bulls teams into Association mode, it should not be a problem.

You mean this?

Rodman was a real ******* doing this. It wasn't funny or making the crowd love him. That's just pure stupidity.

Stiff hand checks as well.

Well ... being Jordans challenge the main focus and the classic teams the result of that feature, I can understand the multiple Bulls teams and the few West teams, as its hard to have any rivalry at all when you only face teams 2 games a season ... but then again, I do agree that PHO (and IND & ORL) are omissions that need to be addressed prior or near post release.

I would definitively love to see some more teams, that were relevant back then but not as much in respect of Jordans career, like HOU, GS, SAC, DEN, SA and/or MIA ... I would also love if they could expand upon the create a team/player feature ... but at this point, I am already satisfied and every other team or feature they may hopefully add, will be a bonus.

and not just generic player models with the name on the jersey? i really hope so. and it would be sweet if there is an option to customize rodman's hair pregame. this is definitely my most anticipated sports game of all time.
if they do have generics with just a number I HOPE WE CAN EDIT THEM and use the CAP system to make it look like their counterparts...

Would the Thunder players become free agents or disappear forever?

Those who weren't born back then, would start to disappear, like Marty in Back to the Future (when he played guitar on stage).

I have no idea if the BAD BOYS will be in the game. But whatever you do...don't look at the thread that has been up for days announcing which historic teams are available!

Just kidding man. The Bad Boys are in.

The Bas Boys are in and can't wait to kick MJ's butt!...virtually...

1985-86 Bulls.....gonna use me some Dave Corzine baby....lol.

I am actually pumped to use the 95 Bulls, thats a team you don't see even on the PC version mods. Number 45 Jordan double-nickelin' the Knicks. I wonder if the threepoint line will be closer on that court?

95 Bulls was the team without a true starting power forward, Kukoc had to play out of position...it was pre-Rodman/Post-Grant,
Roster:

PF Kukoc
SF Pippen
C Perdue
SG Jordan
PG Armstrong

SG Harper
SG Myers
PF Blount
C Wennington
SF Buechler
PG Kerr
C Longley
PF Simpkins
PF Kryskowiak (or whatever lol)

But 1990 Rodman will play the entilre game, while 1996 Rodman will get kicked out after a while. 1990 Rodman doesn't need to worry.

There's no generic players in the game. 2K has the license for all the players.

Not with Laimbeer and Mahorn in there, I can assure you he will not be body slamming anyone.

Mahorn was lost to the Timberwolves in the expansion draft after the 1989 Championship. He refused to play for the expansion Wolves and ended up on the Sixers and along with Barkley actually took part in a late game brawl at the Palace against Laimbeer and the Pistons. In fact, Isiah was ejected earlier in the game for fighting with Mahorn.

Still, the Pistons did get the best Rodman years. He was still a dominant rebounder with the Bulls, but he was a better overall defender with quick feet, more athleticism, and a better concept of team and commitment during all but the end of his Pistons years. He was loved in Detroit for being a real blue collar player.

The last I checked 2K mentioned they had all starters and many bench players and were trying to get all players but had not reached that point yet. I assumed there'd be at least a handful of end of bench guys they might not be able to snag. Has there been an update in this regard?
