NBA 2K11: Jordan Moments and Era-Specific Playbooks

Okay so by now you have heard that Jordan will indeed be a playable character in NBA 2K11 in a new feature 2K is calling the Jordan Challenge. Each available Jordan moment has a title and goals that must be accomplished. The difficulty in performing these is greatly enhanced with all of the new gameplay-related updates 2K11 will sport this year. This is much more than just old-school rosters plugged into an already built NBA 2K11.

They went into painstaking detail to include the old-school arena floors and in some instances the actual arenas (The Forum is Alive BABY).

As a fan of the NBA in the '80s and '90s, it did something to my spirit to see Magic at the point and Worthy and Scott on the wings. But everything is taken to another level entirely when you see the red endlines and look up and notice the familiar Forum trappings.

What also adds to the experience is the fact that the announcing team has game-specific commentary, and in cases where it makes sense, they provide information on what happened in games leading up to the game you're playing for the challenge.

Since we can't talk about everything in detail yet, I know the members of the SIM Nation will be excited but reserved until they can learn if the gameplay is up to par with this new Jordan-centric mode. While it's much too early for gameplay information, I can share a small tidbit you will only find here at Operation Sports: NBA 2K11 -- with prodding from the Czar -- decided to include era-specific playbooks to support the gameplay in the Jordan Challenge mode.

So not only will Jordan physically change over the course of the mode and become more physically built and have less hair, but you will be able to watch the offense he works out of evolve as well. Jordan in '86 did not have the dominant post game he sported later in his career. The Jordan who exploded on the Knicks for his infamous double-nickle game was just coming back and was not in great shape, so the majority of his scoring was done in post-ups and 15-18 foot isolations. There are enough offensive tools to provide die-hards everything they need to accurately re-create Jordan's moments all the way down to the offense.

Before I go I will just throw this out there because I know my community: YES, you can use the classic teams in Quick Play mode while trying to stop Jordan in his tracks. Good luck!

P.S. A reliable source informed me that if you just want to take one of Jordan's Bulls teams into Association mode, it should not be a problem.

Not sure about the developers, but I'm pretty sure MJ got a nice paycheck.

The other article confirmed both short-shorts and the Seattle SuperSonics. Now we have classic floors and arenas? I'm not a huge MJ fan, but I love knowing that I can recreate classic moments if given the chance. I just hope that they're not all from the late '80s and the 1990s. Any word on games, say, pre-three point arc?

I wonder if we replace current teams if we use them in Season's, or if they're like an expansion. I hope we can replace and remove teams. That would be great. Goodbye Thunder.... hello Sonics.

Da_Czar's article said that the classic teams are playable in Association mode.

I highly doubt they were forgotten, in fact, if it were possible I'm sure every historic team/past champion would be in the game. That's not the way the cookie crumbles, unfortunately.

Plus, this is the Jordan Challenge.

so, when they say classic teams, i will see this on my screen:

and not just generic player models with the name on the jersey? i really hope so. and it would be sweet if there is an option to customize rodman's hair pregame. this is definitely my most anticipated sports game of all time.

I think it'd be awesome if the 2002-2003 Nets make it in the game.

It would be an incredible accomplishment and awsome indeed ... as they never were even a part of Jordanīs player career history, not even when DC was on that team.

Yes, that should be what you see. A worker with 2K has stated that all starters from each of the listed classic teams has already signed on in addition to many of the bench players. He stated they were still making calls at the time this information was released, trying to lock up everyone on each roster. It'll be a tough get, but it seems they've at least locked up official access to all the primary guys.

Hey I know you're catching flack for this statement (as the '03 Nets were not involved with Jordan) and it may be small consolation, but the good news about teams 2002 and upward is that a lot of their players are still active in the NBA. Creating those Nets is well within the realm of possibility. Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, Richard Jefferson, Anthony Johnson, Brian Scalabrine, and Aaron Williams I believe were all still available in 2K10. Further, some skilled artists on 2KShare were able to throw together some accurate d****tions (portrayals) of guys like Kerry Kittles and Lucious Harris. (Sorry, don't know why that one word is sensored).

I'd suggest looking out for classic 2000's rosters on 2KShare. I know I threw up a 2007 and I believe a 2004 roster (username: Swove) that if anything, can serve as starting points for people looking to recreate a favorite team from that era. I'm sure there won't be a shortage of people doing the same thing for 2K11.

Era-specific playbooks? I hope this could also include era-specific rules from back when the NBA was a man's game.
