NBA 2K11: Jordan Moments and Era-Specific Playbooks

Okay so by now you have heard that Jordan will indeed be a playable character in NBA 2K11 in a new feature 2K is calling the Jordan Challenge. Each available Jordan moment has a title and goals that must be accomplished. The difficulty in performing these is greatly enhanced with all of the new gameplay-related updates 2K11 will sport this year. This is much more than just old-school rosters plugged into an already built NBA 2K11.

They went into painstaking detail to include the old-school arena floors and in some instances the actual arenas (The Forum is Alive BABY).

As a fan of the NBA in the '80s and '90s, it did something to my spirit to see Magic at the point and Worthy and Scott on the wings. But everything is taken to another level entirely when you see the red endlines and look up and notice the familiar Forum trappings.

What also adds to the experience is the fact that the announcing team has game-specific commentary, and in cases where it makes sense, they provide information on what happened in games leading up to the game you're playing for the challenge.

Since we can't talk about everything in detail yet, I know the members of the SIM Nation will be excited but reserved until they can learn if the gameplay is up to par with this new Jordan-centric mode. While it's much too early for gameplay information, I can share a small tidbit you will only find here at Operation Sports: NBA 2K11 -- with prodding from the Czar -- decided to include era-specific playbooks to support the gameplay in the Jordan Challenge mode.

So not only will Jordan physically change over the course of the mode and become more physically built and have less hair, but you will be able to watch the offense he works out of evolve as well. Jordan in '86 did not have the dominant post game he sported later in his career. The Jordan who exploded on the Knicks for his infamous double-nickle game was just coming back and was not in great shape, so the majority of his scoring was done in post-ups and 15-18 foot isolations. There are enough offensive tools to provide die-hards everything they need to accurately re-create Jordan's moments all the way down to the offense.

Before I go I will just throw this out there because I know my community: YES, you can use the classic teams in Quick Play mode while trying to stop Jordan in his tracks. Good luck!

P.S. A reliable source informed me that if you just want to take one of Jordan's Bulls teams into Association mode, it should not be a problem.

Jesus Christ, I can't take much more of this. MJ is BACK and now classic teams/stadiums to boot!

I gotta say, the mention of the Forum made me smile. Even if the majority of the classic courts are just court art and not entire classic arenas, still awesome.

I'd still be curious to see whether the guys who they could not get to agree to be a part of the game, would be editable.

WOW...this is so good. its great to see 2K setting the standard yet once again...

here's the little snippet i put on my 2K11 Top 40 Gameplay Fixes List...i honestly figured it'd be another 2-3 years before this could be expected, honestly..

"Who remembers the buzz created when Operation Sports showcased those wonderful user-created Jordan Videos right before 2K9’s release date? While I’d love to see the NBA’s Top 25 Moments recreated in gaming (where a user could replay these virtually) how realistic is that without the four or five MANDATORY appearances by Michael Jordan, like Jordan-over-Ehlo, Jordan-switching-hands-in-traffic-against-LA, or Jordan-over-Russell-in-Utah-to-win-it all? There’s no question that MJ is a deal-closer. I can’t even imagine the hype that a “Featuring Michael Jordan!” advertising campaign would create."

wow, you can take Jordan and the 91 Bulls into association mode? wow, just wow, im not even a Bulls fan, but heck running a "non sim" dynasty running Jordan and Pippen vs The Miami Thrice, would be spectacular.

I can see myself playing everyhting they have announced so far. Like other sports games have all this extra stuff but I generally wouldnt care for it. I can safely say that Im expecting to put some time into this game just with the Jordan additions.

Wow they got MJ looking jacked...

Gotta play the Demo though. MJ isn't a selling point for me.

I wonder if the supposedly 850 plays in 2K11 is including historic teams playbooks? My guess is yes.

After reading all this Jordan 2K11 info, and then reading this article from Czar, I literally just stood up, walked away from the computer, jumped up and down like a giddy little girl and said "holy ****!!".

Give me this game now.

Again, this mean nothing if the gameplay sucks. Jordan doesn't sell to me because the game, like any other previous games since NBA2K7 will be collecting dust if 2K keeps the game engine with the same pace of slow delay in control responsiveness and unbreakable canned animations. They need to go back to the instant flood response of NBA2K7.

OK now I'm liking what I hear much more, you can use classic teams in quick play more and possibly association mode also now I'm loving that, along with era specific playbooks, this is what I call news

I was very surprised to hear about era-specific playbooks. This pretty much guarantees all the current teams will have their own as well.
