Kobe midrange jumshot rating?
Posted on September 27, 2011 at 09:12 PM.
I need the email for the clown who put Kobe's midrange at 78. Before you comment please look at everyones midrange rating and tell me how sick 2K is for some of these midrange jumpshot ratings.

And Justud, that was exactly my point. How this guy whipped a stat book on me and I looked for Juwan howard making .5 and shooting 1.1 really you come up with a solid catch and shoot percentage 80 or whatever from that? Dude attempts one a game.

Deshawn Stevenson mid range rating... 78. Take a look who Kobe is placed with.

# 33 ccjj1010 @ Sep 28
Steve Nash (one of the best shooters ever) only an 80 midrange same as Juwan Howard ??? COME ON.

# 34 SdotThaDon @ Sep 28
@cnthomas8- 16-23 ft is everything outside the freethrow line and inside the 3pt line......Next time you throw insults, please know what you're talking about.
@ccjj1010- get back to me when you post Stevenson's shoot in traffic, shoot off the dribble and offensive awareness ratings. If you don't acknowledge those you're wasting your time.

how am I wasting my time you already know Kobe's is way better? so tell me how they got the same midrange rating?

Deshawn Stevenson mid range. (.3 makes to .5 attempts.) There for Kobe in him have the same mid range ability?

Lol 78 doesn't mean he can't shoot. It means that he can't drop everything the way most people want him to. Also the mid range is based off of a set shot. Which Kobe doesn't really ever use. So if his shot off the dribble is 90 and his shot from the post is like 85 than is true to him. Kobe isn't a set shooter so in comparison howard could be a better set shooter, but not a better overall shooter. When you factor in shots off the dribble and low post shots. Let alone Kobe's clutch rating will probably be 90+. Plus players have sweet spots this year so Kobe may shoot better from different spots. When you think of it altogether he still would be quite a force. Lol to say Kobe is a set shooter isn't true now if they gave ray allen a 78 that would be cause for an uproar.

@deacon- exactly.
@ ccjj1010- mid is a base rating that is affected by those others depending on the situation. That's why its a waste to not consider them. Deshawn Stevenson's 78 probably becomes a 50 when guarded. Kobe's not so much....

Man you used Kobe in the blog title who are supposed to use an example?
2007 42%
2008 38%
2009 42%
2010 41%
2011 38%

That is enough to tell me he is not that great from 16-23 ft. If you are hovering around 40% how do you expect a great mid range rating. Using DeShawn? Ok that is a bad comparison all he does is shoot 3pt'ers but when he shoots mid range it was better than Kobe. Are they suppose to downgrade DeShawn because he attempted less mid range shots than Kobe? Also how can you insult the game makers when you have no clue how these ratings play out in 2k12? Using Nash ok take it like this if you have a bad year and your stats go down well your ratings will see it. Yall want a life time achievement rating for Nash but sorry his mid range dropped to 44% so a 80 is not bad B-. I am sure his close rating should be high though as he shot 50% from 10-15 ft. You have to think of all these ratings as probabilites then minus for if the defense played good d and if you didn't release perfectly on the shot stick.

Do you think that Kobe is in the tops ten far as a jump shot. (set)
Absolutely not. I can name some with a better set shot from mid range. Melo, Allen, Nash, Nowitzki, Pierce, Curry, Durant, Ginobli, Reddick. Kobe is a better all around shooter off of the dribble in traffic contested and so forth behind Melo, Nowitzki, and Durant. Realistically the overalls don't determine thee effectiveness of a player in most cases. LOL Dirk is a 85 as an all around rating, but probably one of thee most lethal scorers in the game. Lebron should be rated higher than Kobe on an overall scale because he is a better overall player, but not necessarily the better player.

I never understand people's anger at ratings and the main reason is, you can change them to your liking. You can have steve nash playing like derrick rose if you want. I know it's a pride thing with people's favorite players but come on, this can be changed. I understand that with some online leagues you can't change ratings and I get that but Kobe isn't a great shooter, never has been one, he's a great versatile scorer and being a great scorer and shooter aren't the same thing necessarily. Nash will rip Kobe to shreds in shooting but Kobe is one of the greatest scorers ever (that really hurt to say because I hate Kobe).

I said in one of the threads that 2k should do a rating insight post game release. It would clear up a lot of things and get people out of the overall rating mentality. Kobe will be a beast he just doesn't shoot that great from that distance.

Ccjj1010,

The clown part in your title just makes you look bad because you didn't know how bad a mid range shooter Kobe was. That was the bait to get me to respond because you have no justification and it is funny to me. You are using fandom to try to justify giving Kobe a higher rating when his actual game stats last year and many years show you he is not that great of a mid range shooter. The numbers speak for themselves. There are many others in the game that have a better mid range some even play center.

Khadeemw,

I think that is part of the problem everyone is using how the ratings worked in 2k11 and assuming it is the same as last year. All 2k had to do was max out a certain % to a 99. This doesn't mean he is perfect in the game from mid range. Dirk shot 52% last year for the season. So all this means is the max 99 is set to 52% or or so everyone else is below. You are right about Hortord they gave him I think a 88 for mid range. I was waiting for someone to bring him up. I never said the system is perfect. Another thong about the ratings are if you give everyone the same rating and changed position the overall number is not the same. So that tells me the ratings don't mean the same for each position. Which makes it hard to compare across positions.

well thank you all for your input. I realize that 2K bases their ratings off of a stat book. Which is sort of flawed in my opinion if you think "catch and shoot" Juwan Howard is a better shooter from midrange than Kobe Bryant from 16-23 feet. That to me is crazy. This wasn't a kobe fan rave just questioning overall how they come up with a rating. Also I think midrange for me is a different length then they have because a midrange shot is 10 feet to maybe 20 feet. Instead of 16-23 ft. If you look around the league shots from 21 1/2-23 are very limited and are a bad shot to to take unless its a wide open shot. I as just questioning how a stat book is so heavily defining for a rating.

If you think a 21 1/2-23 shot is a good shot, instead of being dead open. I don't know what to tell you. I dont know how many of those you shoot in 2K, take in real life, or see being taken. So Kobe from 10-15 being a 99 is good enough for me. But in my mind I feel Kobe could hit a 18 to 19 footer very consistantly.
All aside I feel this will be a great game and I will enjoy it! I think they did a great job with everything seen so far!

You can't give him good ratings based off reputation alone. If the man did not shoot well last season then he deserves the rating he got point blank. Ratings are determined by comparisons to other players there determined by the cold heart facts.
