Back in 2008, we ran a 64 game tournament to decide the greatest sports game ever.

In our tournament back in 2008, NFL 2K5 dominated College Hoops 2K8 in the championship to capture the crown over 63 other sports games which were nominated by you and seeded by our staff.

Since 2008, we have seen many new great competitors enter the race. NBA 2K11, NHL 10, FIFA Soccer 10, MLB: The Show (pick a year), Forza Motorsport 4, WWE '12, Out of Park Baseball X, Trials Evolution are among many other likely newcomers into the bracket.

Before we seed the bracket, we are now taking nominations for seeding consideration. Please nominate all of the games you'd like to see in the bracket, games with more mentions in the thread will obviously get stronger consideration to be included in the 68 team bracket.

Nominations will be taken until we seed the brackets. Seeding will be announced on February 29, 2012. Match-ups will be announced March 1, 2012. Voting will begin to start crowning the champ on March 11, 2012.

So what are you waiting for? Start nominating your favorite sports games of all time!!

It's a new year, and the yearly cycle of releases is set to begin in the next week. Thus, we asked OS staffers what their three most anticipated titles are this year. Some interesting tidbits is that SSX appears in many lists, EA NBA appears in several as well while NBA 2K13 isn't in any of our staffer's top three most wanted -- which probably doesn't indicate our expectation in quality but rather that the staff is heavily intrigued by what EA is going to bring to the table.

So read our lists and then give us your own, what are your three most anticipated titles of 2012?

2K Sports has a new video series leading up to the release of MLB 2K12 -- check out the first in the series feature the AL Cy Young Winner and Detroit Tiger, Justin Verlander. What do you all think? See anything in the video from the game that was intriguing?

Quote:
"2K Sports today released the first in a series of digital films for Major League Baseball 2K12 starring the AL Cy Young award winner, MVP and 2K Sports cover athlete Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers.

In the video, we find Justin Verlander and Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson parked outside the Perfect Club, a private club reserved for everything perfect - including past perfect game pitchers and even 2K Sports' alumni of $1,000,000 winners. Despite Justin's many accomplishments, he has yet to achieve perfection on the mound and thus is not allowed in the club. But if he tries hard enough to master the pitching controls in MLB 2K12 and throws the most perfect game in the $1,000,000 Perfect Game Challenge, then Justin might have a chance to finally get into the club.

February 7, 2012 – EA SPORTSTM today unveiled the complete music track listing for EA SPORTS SSXTM, featuring 36 licensed tracks* by established and upcoming artists and ten original tracks composed specifically for the game’s Deadly Descents. In addition, these original ten tracks – created by The Qemists, Camo & Krooked, Raffertie, and Amon Tobin – are now available for download as part of the ‘SSX’ soundtrack via iTunes®.

“SSX has always been one of EA’s most music intensive, genre diverse and sonically adventurous titles,” says Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music & Music Marketing. “The songs on this new soundtrack cover ground from indie rock, dub step, hip-hop, drum + bass and beyond. As fans of the ultimate snowboarding franchise have come to expect, our artists range from top cutting-edge stars to tomorrow’s hottest underground acts. Ultimately, it’s a soundtrack full of next-level music that is totally ripe for discovery.”

Gamers will have the ability to upload their own music to SSX to create custom playlists for menu and in-game music. SSX also features a dynamic music remix tool that will automatically remix licensed tracks and custom music based on the player’s actions and performance in-game.

One of the most critically-acclaimed titles coming out of E3, SSX is now featured on 14 ‘Most Anticipated Games of 2012’. SSX launches on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game system on February 28 in North America and by March 2 in the rest of the world**.

What do you all think? This soundtrack list is personally really solid, although music is so diverse I'm sure half of you are wondering who half of these bands are. I think it should fit the whole look and feel of the game quite nicely. Can't wait until the end of the month!

Check out some of the new Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 screenshots featuring the Legacy Challenge mode, right here.

Here are some details from the Tiger Legacy Challenge Mode from EA. Personally, I'm actually quite excited about this mode at the present time. What do you all think?

Quote:
Tiger Legacy Challenge lets you relive Tiger’s most memorable golf accomplishments as he rises from a child prodigy to a golfing legend. Revisit each era of Tiger’s career, from his Toddler Years practicing in his backyard, to his first television appearance on The Mike Douglas Show, thru his epic victories at the Masters. Play through and complete each era to unlock bonus in game content.

Toddler Years - The first era includes events from Tiger’s childhood in the late 70’s, which introduces players to the new swing mechanics found in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13. During these events, you will play as Tiger between the ages of 2-6.

Early Years – This era takes place between 1983 and 1986 between the ages of 7-10. You'll participate in some of Tiger's first golf tournaments including the Junior World Championship

Junior Years – Takes place between 1988 and 1991 at the ages of 12-15 and showcases Tiger winning each age group of the Junior World Golf Championships. These events incorporate various audio distractions while playing, which Tiger’s father used in real life to help him train and hone his skills.

Amateur Years – This era focuses on Tiger at the ages of 18-20 and includes accomplishments during his Amateur golf career such as the U.S. Amateur Championships, his first trip to the Masters Tournament, and College Invitational.

Rookie Years – Between the ages 21 and 22,this era encompasses Tiger’s first two years on the PGA TOUR, as well as his first major win at the Masters, his first President’s Cup, signing with EA SPORTS, and hitting a hole in one at TPC Scottsdale on the famous hole 16.

Tiger Slam – Arguably one of Tiger’s most memorable accomplishments to date, this era focuses on his career between 2000 and 2001 at the ages of 24 and 25, when he won four majors in a row. It also includes a challenge to match Tiger’s snaking putt at the 2001 Players Championship on the 17th island green at TPC Sawgrass.

Pro Years – The Professional Years include accomplishments between 2002 and 2008 such as various major wins, famous shots (2005 chip-in at Masters), and winning the FedEx Cup.

Present Day – This era includes current events such as the 2010 Ryder Cup, 2011 Presidents Cup, and the beginning of fictional events that lead up to the ultimate goal of winning 19 majors.

Future – This section includes major events that are in the future such as the 2014 U.S. Open at Valhalla and the 2015 British Open at St. Andrews.

Record Books – The last era will end with Tiger chasing his 19th major on his way to breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record."

Official Description: Watch our trailer and experience the true atmosphere and emotion of this world famous venue. From classic matchups, to recent rivalries, the legendary French Open action comes to life in Grand Slam® Tennis 2.

Editors Notes: Love this trailer. It shows several classic rivalries and ends with Federer and Nadal on the Clay Courts. I'm anxiously awaiting this game, and while it won't sell overwhelmingly well in America -- it'll certainly cell decent enough in Europe. The quality is going to be an interesting question at the end of the day.

January 30, 2012 – The New York Giants captured their fourth Vince Lombardi Trophy, defeating the New England Patriots 27-24 in Super Bowl XLVI, according to the annual EA SPORTS Madden NFL Super Bowl simulation powered by Xbox 360, the official console sponsor of the NFL and NFL PLAY 60.

Kicker Lawrence Tynes kicked a game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Giants past the AFC Champion Patriots, bringing home the Giants’ second Super Bowl championship in four years.

The exciting ending was reminiscent of what took place in the title game four seasons ago when the Giants stunned the Patriots 17-14 after a heroic game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLII.

Giants Quarterback Eli Manning was named the game’s MVP, completing 25 of 39 passes with two touchdowns and an interception. New England’s Tom Brady also had a big day, throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Most of Brady’s best moments came late in the game.

Trailing 24-10 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Brady led New England on a furious rally, scoring two touchdowns to tie the game 24-24, the second coming on a 14-yard pass to wide receiver Wes Welker with 1:50 left on the clock.

Unfortunately for New England, there was still plenty of time left for Manning and the Giants’ offense.

Mixing in short passes to wide receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, and with key runs by running back Ahmad Bradshaw, Manning drove New York down the field and into New England Territory, setting up Tynes’ second game-winning conversion in two games.

EA's final score: Giants 27 Patriots 24

EA just sent us details of the Kinect integration with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 -- it is the first AAA Sports Sim to integrate the Kinect into its controls:

Quote:
"As the first-ever sports simulation game for Kinect for Xbox 360, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 will provide gamers with a whole new level of immersion while playing the game. Kinect tracks full body movements to create the most advanced virtual golf swing to date. Golf fans can play the game controller-free and use voice-enabled commands, which provide for a unique and fun way to hit the links. The full body movement tracking scans more than 1,000 data points in real-time to recognize the player’s swing mechanics and create a virtual golf swing like never before.

By utilizing Kinect, gamers can not only play the game with their body, they can navigate all the front-end menus with simple hand motions. In addition, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 features a “See it, Say it” functionality. “See it, Say it” allows gamers to say any command they see on the screen and execute it in game. For example, if a player wants to use a different club and change the game’s default club selection they simply have to say “Change Club, 5 Iron”. Through the power of Kinect, there is no need to toggle through menu options with the traditional controller."

To get through the pure PR speak, you can check out this blog from Eric Busch, one of the designers of Tiger 13.

Overall, the integration looks solid, although I'll have to wait and see it in person before I go all in. What do you guys think?
