With my 8th pick, I need a back up point guard. I already have the best point guard in the league since 2005, so why not get the second best point guard since 2005 to back him up? That's right, my 8th pick goes is Deron Williams. Williams has averaged over 10 assists in each of his last 4 seasons. He's averaged over 15 points per game for each of the last 5 seasons, while shooting 44% or higher in each of those seasons (shooting over 50% in 2008). Williams has one of the quickest first steps in the league, and has, in my opinion, the best crossover in the league. His size (6'3" 210 lbs) and strength enables him to take smaller guards into the post and abuse them down low. He's a good outsider shooter, shooting 35% from three in his career. For his playoff career, he's averaged 21.1 points & 9.6 assists per game. I think he'll make for a more than adequate back up point guard.

I'm going to go with Grant Hill. His first 6 years in the league, Hill was considered a top 10 player. An legit MVP candidate in some years. A prototypical point forward who was one of the best to create offense off the dribble. Wasn't a great 3-point shooter but had a solid mid-range game. In his prime, wasn't considered a great defender. He was adequate at best. After his 6th year, he suffered through a career altering injury that basically hurt his hall of fame status. However, he’s recently revived his career as an excellent role player and his defense that was considered “adequate” during his prime has jumped to solid in the last three years. Needed a versatile player off my bench and he’s the guy.

I'm going to go with Robert Horry. Sure I could get much better value at this point in the draft, but two things Horry has that only a handful of players have that are left in the draft: Playoff experience, and Clutch factor. Robert Horry currently leads the all time NBA record for most playoff games, and is 14th all time for playoff minutes. Horry has a total of 7 championships across 3 different dynasty teams. Although he was fortunate to play around great surrounding talent for most of his career, he was by no means dead weight. Horry's career is notorious for him showing up at clutch moments during playoff games, so much so it earned him the name "Big Shot Rob." Furthermore, being 6'10" gives him a height advantage when he plays along the perimeter.

Horry does better when he's not relied upon as a primary scoring option but as a Plan B/C, so he will fit in perfectly with the supporting cast off the bench.

Unless my eyes deceive me, it appears that my next pick, Maurice Cheeks has not been selected. One of the better defensive point guards of all time, and almost certainly the heart and soul of the Dr. J/Moses Malone 76ers teams, Cheeks provides much needed defense at the point guard position. While he is good enough scoring and creating assists, his real value will be his ability to shut down the other side of the ball.

My next pick is another who would've been in the conversation for best player ever if it weren't for other circumstances. He deserved to be picked before a few players on MY team so I'm very happy to get him here. Connie Hawkins was in the middle of a point shaving scandal in college, and though he was never charged the NBA refused to allow him into the league during the prime of his career. He was forced to the ABL and ABA where he dominated, winning a championship along with regular season and playoff MVP awards. He also lead the league in points. Eventually the NBA settled a law suit against them for wrongfully barring Hawkins and he got to show his talent at the age of 31 (his 1st season in the NBA he averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists per game).

Hawkins finished his career as a member of the ABA All Times Team, and despite a short NBA career had his jersey retired by the Suns and was inducted in the NBA Hall of Fame. Coach Larry Brown said of him, "He was Julius before Julius. He was Elgin before Elgin. He was Michael before Michael. He was simply the greatest individual player I have ever seen."

And on a bit of a side note, Foul! The Connie Hawkins Story is a great book for anyone interested.

# 81 JBH3 @ Nov 21
The 8th man off my bench is going to be Tom Chambers, one of the top centers still remaining, and a good interior defender and post scorer.

# 82 Kashanova @ Nov 21
I'll be taking Adrian Dantley who was a versatile G/F who could score and rebound for a guard while being an efficient scorer.

# 83 da ThRONe @ Nov 22
I'm taking Kevin Johnson with my next pick. I need a back up PG and KJ is arguably a top ten PG.

# 84 AlexBrady @ Nov 23
With the last pick in the 8th round (96th overall) I am taking Bill Sharman. On this team, he would be responsible for shooting, executing the Triangle, getting out and running, and playing aggressive defense.

To start the 9th round, the pick (97th overall) is going to be Ron Harper. He was an overwhelming defender, a snappy passer, and his court vision was all encompassing. Harper and Sharman could easily play a switching game on defense.

# 85 da ThRONe @ Nov 24
With my next pick I'm taking Earl "the pearl" Monroe. Don't know how he fell this low, but I'm glad to steal him in this draft. Don't really need another small guard but can't pass him up.

# 86 Kashanova @ Nov 24
With my next pick I'm picking Glen Rice, Great pro overall, shot 40% from three point land in his career, scored nearly 20 thousand points in his career as well

# 87 JBH3 @ Nov 24
With my 9th Rd pick I am taking Pau Gasol. I figure I have a nice platoon at the 4 w/ Gasol/Nance. Plus I now have a big man who can swing to the 5 if needed. Gasol gives my bench versatility and a big man who can score, defend, and compete.

# 88 wwharton @ Nov 26
Another player overlooked due to injuries shortening the height of his career Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway will be my next pick. Early in his career, Penny was as good as any player in the NBA and filled all categories of a stat sheet. He was all NBA first team twice and third team once. He helped Shaq get the Magic to the finals and became even more dominant when the big fella bolted to LA. Even with the multiple injuries throughout, he had a successful career for the better part of a decade. His numbers were only considered a disappointment due to how dominant he was when healthy.

On my team here, he'll play a huge role filling in at both PG and SG, brings some height to my guard rotation and has the defensive skills and all around game to fit right into the fast paced aggressive gameplan we'd be running.

# 89 OSUFan_88 @ Nov 27
I'm going to select Bruce Bowen. Why? Simple really: Tough, hard nosed, slightly dirty, lockdown defense. No one could quite get under a player's skin like Bruce Bowen. Plus, that bow tie.

# 90 iLLosophy @ Nov 27
I'm going to go with MSU legend Bailey Howell. An awesome scorer and decent rebounder that can play on the wing, Howell was on of the top contributors to giving the Celtics of '68 and '69 their championship after their streak ended in 1967 from Wilt Chamberlain's 76ers.
