How?

How could EA sports so seriously drop the ball with NBA Live 13?

Why?

Why did EA Sports build from NBA Elite, a failed product when they had a stellar product in NBA Live 10 sitting around as well?

This was project management at it's worst, and this is a Eulogy for EA Basketball, at least for now. You can't make this stuff up, the trailer was horrific looking and we've ... Read More

It seemed anticlimatic...but the former number two team in the nation the USC Trojans went down this weekend to an old foe that has had their number in Stanford. But that's not the only action of the weekend, here are seven things we've learned from Week Three:

1. The National Championship Runs Through the SEC - This is not a surprise, but for right now in Week 3, we know the National Championship contender ... Read More

Madden has arrived as a great sports gaming title...finally.

It's finally happened.

I am totally enjoying a Madden NFL game again. It has to be said, because I fear some will take the words that follow overboard and think I'm shilling for EA: the game is not perfect. But no other game in our genre is near perfect. We have hailed sports games as great when they were anything but if held to the same standard ... Read More

The Pac-12 has been owned by Oregon the past two years with USC out of the picture for the post-season. Now, with scholarship reductions taking effect, USC has one more season of pretty normal activity before they have to manage life without a full slate of scholarship players.

Silas Redd's addition onto the USC roster will be a huge boost, but it wasn't as if the Trojans weren't already the favorite anyways. ... Read More

And then there were ten…again.

The Big XII has been at the center of way too much college football realignment discussion the past three summers, but it appears the league is back on solid footing after very possibly upgrading their football stature by bringing in West Virginia and TCU after losing Texas A&M and MIssouri.

The league this season will be trying to get used to the newcomers, ... Read More

Remember the vision cone? What about Fight for the fumble?

What about Pro-Tak and Locomotion? The extra point? Weapons? Lead blocker control? The highlight stick?

And what of when the EA hype machine simply overstates the new features for Madden? What about Gameflow and hype about changing how plays are called in football games forever? While I personally do enjoy gameflow, it's apparent the NCAA ... Read More

Last week I wrote about how NBA Live's promoters have gone silent. There's not a peep coming out of EA's HQ -- which may be for the game's best for now.

However, for 2K Sports, this is another big season for their flagship title with some key questions hanging over it's head. After a season marred with unrealistic expectations from consumers and a few key gaffes, NBA 2K13 is looking to meet a more realistic set ... Read More

Two weeks ago I reviewed NCAA Football 13 and gave it a solid seven rating, or what we perceive as a borderline good game but close to above-average as well.

Since my review, we've discovered NCAA does indeed have a few major bugs, the most annoying of which is probably the freezing bug. Every time you review a major release a couple of weeks later you always feel as if your stance on a game shifts one way or ... Read More

The penalties at Penn State are indeed massive. We're going to do some math and play with it all to see how bad it could be.

People have been quick to point to USC and say, "the penalties at Penn State aren't all that bad, see? Look at USC!"

But the simple fact is, USC's scholarship reductions just kicked in this past recruiting season. In two years, USC will be incredibly thin at every position ... Read More

You heard a lot of conjecture coming from EA's camp. A lot of hype really.

We're back. Things are looking good. We're building for the future.

Then E3 hit. Wave after wave of bad reviews saying the game simply wasn't ready to be shown off, and 'What was EA thinking?' type of articles -- including from our own Steve Noah.

Now, silence. Deafening, complete...silence.

The settlement carries major ramifications for football gaming, but some of it is nuanced.

The news that came out on Friday afternoon of a settlement reached by EA and the law firm representing customers in a price fixing lawsuit alleging the actions taken by EA and it's licensing partners were monopolistic.

The immediate ramifications were real: consumers were going to get some of the money they spent on ... Read More

Every year, there are at least a few great non-conference matchups worth watching amidst a slew of Georgia Southern vs. SEC Power #3 games. Without further adieu, here's my top 5 non-conference games to watch in 2012:

#6 - Washington at LSU, Sept. 8

LSU is going to be really, really good this year. Washington will be bringing a rather green team into Death Valley with just 11 starters returning ... Read More

You've just played 60 minutes of hard nosed-tough football and yet you and your opponent have decided nothing.

The game is tied.

And now, it's time for overtime so it's time to switch sports because you are no longer playing football.

For some reason, no one has a clue about how to actually solve a football game that finds itself tied after regulation ends. Every other sport? They're ... Read More

Deplorable.

Disgraceful. Shameful. Dishonorable. Inexcuseable. Unpardonable. Unforgivable. Reprehensible. Despicable. Abominable. Contemptible. Execrable. Heinous.

All of those words. None of them do any justice to the actions of officials, employees from the top to the bottom at Penn State University.

The veil was lifted today on what is perhaps the worst scandal in college sports history, ... Read More

I'm a broadcast guy. A film guy. A creative pro. Nothing gets past me when it comes to camera angles, bad audio mixing, and mistimed lines.

So imagine my horror when I play NCAA Football 13.

The presentation isn't bad. It's solid, or maybe merely ok for a game. But solid presentation in video game sports means it's actually quite terrible in comparison to broadcast TV. Several games in our genre do ... Read More
