One thing that has always been apparent in sports gaming is that people prefer different types of experiences with their games.

For instance, while one guy might tweak sliders and play on All-Pro, another might leave the game on the default Pro setting without touching a thing -- perfectly content with the game they have.

One thing that I've been wondering lately is how does everyone see their games' ... Read More

Forget Madden. Forget NBA 2K.

Forget them all. FIFA Soccer is the unquestioned king of sports games, and it's not even close.

FIFA Soccer 13 sold 7.4 million copies in four weeks
. That's more than any other sports game will sell in a whole year. Yes, read that again. Not even Madden can boast that sort of a performance ever. FIFA Soccer 13 is the fastest selling sports game ever and currently perhaps ... Read More

As a lifelong Oklahoman, it's been a fun time to see the Thunder arrive in OKC and rise as one of the premier teams in the league. I'm no stranger to how the business of professional sports works -- but many Oklahomans got their first true taste of what happens when you are a small market team facing a financial dilemma.

You give up some ground now in order to fight again tomorrow.

The Thunder ... Read More

The lockout that is threatening this NHL Season will be horribly damaging to Hockey. That's an obvious statement to make, you saw a recent example of just how damaging a full season cancellation was in 04-05, as Hockey was on the brink of complete irrelevancy in any place not named Canada, Detroit, Chicago, etc.

Thanks to some smart moves, the NHL recovered these past few seasons.

Last season the ... Read More

I'm a stickler for change.

Typically, I'm the type of person that see's some sort of a chance to move things forward and my imagination thinks of all the possibilities of what could be -- detriments be darned.

The Apple marketplace is that type of a thing -- I once wrote that Apple could literally buy their way into gaming quite easily by snatching up several gaming publishers and having many billions ... Read More

Not unlike how great hitters in the 90s and early 2000s will be overlooked because of the steroids era, the flagship video games title of baseball is suffering a similar type of fate of bad timing.

MLB '12: The Show is probably among the top three, no it is among the top three titles released each and every year in sports gaming from a quality standpoint. The amount of depth and immersiveness within the game ... Read More

Personal foul on the fun police!

Sports video games are, first and foremost, meant to be fun.

So with that in mind, I want to reset things a bit on my blog. I've taken a bit of time away from blogging the past month while running things a bit behind the scenes and having some family time and all that fun stuff. It was honestly a great decision. I feel I've come back to writing about sports and sports gaming ... Read More

That...just...happened.

Now granted, all signs were pointing towards Live never seeing the light of day -- but still can you say you are surprised?

I personally gave EA a lot of the benefit of the doubt the past several months, mainly because it seemed inconceivable a company as successful and large as Electronic Arts could mangle a release not just once, but twice.

"You keep ... Read More

The name of the game is simple: each Friday I run down the top college football games and give my quick hitting picks. There's not much more to say except: LETS GET TO PICKING!

Game of the Week: Clemson at Florida State

This is an interesting game. Don't count out Clemson, but Florida State is back...until they get randomly upset by some rum-dum run of the mill average ACC team. Perhaps they won't. ... Read More

There's just so much to this story, and the whole definition of college athletes and what it means to be one and what rights you have just gets more and more interesting.

This all stems from the Sam Keller/Ed O'Bannon case which was filed against EA and the NCAA for allegedly profiting off of student athlete likenesses. I have been writing about this story for over two years now, and we're just now getting to ... Read More

The NHL series has fundamentally changed gameplay three times this generation.

Quick! What game in our genre over the last eight years has reinvented itself not just once, but twice? What about three times?

If you your answer is the NHL series from EA Sports, then you are on the right track. Perhaps one of the most dumbfounding thing about the NHL series is just how fundamentally it has changed itself over ... Read More

Four powerhouse programs have found themselves at 3-0 to start the season. A quarter of the way to an undefeated season is no small feat for sure, but which teams over the next three months will be contending and which teams will be exposed as having been pretending come early December?

It seems like each sport is different in how close they can get to emulating the realism you see on your TV screens and from the stands. Obviously, the more moving parts there are, the tougher it is to emulate the realism. I also believe this is why you see some games achieve greatness and others simply fall flat.

So what four sports are the absolute toughest to emulate in a sports simulation from the designer ... Read More
