I have already discussed this in some form or fashion for 2K Sports in an earlier blog, but I'm going to give a brief overview of what each major sports-gaming company (EA, 2K, SCEA) needs to do to have a successful year.

EA Sports: Right now Madden and FIFA are among the best selling games out there. EA is going to have to continue to improve and innovate with both of these titles. To really make a splash, I would expect an Online Franchise of some sort in Madden and perhaps some ... Read More

I'm going to channel my inner prophet and give you guys some predictions for the next twelve months so you can feel prepared and say "I told you so" to all of your friends when the news finally breaks.

Ready? Here goes:

  • Either MLB '09: The Show, NBA 2K10 or NHL 10 will be huge disappointments this next year. The solid trio we could count on will be no more after this year.
  • Both fighting games (UFC and Fight Night) will be contenders for game of the year.
  • EA and

I know how reliable most video games store's release dates are, and I also know that it is kind of silly to release two marquee titles on the same day, but right now Gamestop & EB Games are listing both Fight Night Round 4 and NCAA Football 10 for release on July 14, 2008.

I could go into the reasons why this is most likely unfounded and will be changed soon, but I'd rather go into detail about why such a release would rock.

1) Operation Sports would be absolutely booming ... Read More

At first, we had about 25-30 categories which we were looking to give out awards to, but realizing the futility of the situation (we're only human after all) we ended up combining several categories and nixing others completely. Here are some categories and who I would've picked as the winner:

Best Audio - MLB '08: The Show
The audio in The Show was some of the best I've ever heard in the sports game from the announcing to the sound effects.

Biggest Disappointment ... Read More

I just want to send a shout out to all you OSers out there and wish you a Happy New Year!

I always put down 5 goals (or resolutions) for each year. I'm usually rather good at keeping them as well, so I'm going to put mine out in public so I can be held accountable on them!

  1. Produce A Film for a Film Festival - This one will happen, I'm already planning it. I'm going to use Storm Chasing and photography to make a short documentary over my hobby. It should be a lot

A lot of you commented on my previous posts talking about how 2K has had a rough year and also which sports I'd like to see them tackle.

With it being the Christmas season, I'm going to go back to my childhood roots and play make-believe for a little while. If I were the CEO in charge of the 2K Ship...here are a few things I would do different:

  • Boost my QA department. Right now, I'm not so sure there is one at 2K with all of the bugs getting shipped with games. My

The year of 2008 is quickly coming to a close. That means college football is also done soon and the days will only be getting longer and longer from here on out. The former is a bummer while the latter is very exciting, even though the wind chills here in Oklahoma are down about -10 this morning.

So with 2009 fast approaching, I've assembled my list of my five most anticipated games, be sure to let me know yours by commenting on this blog!

  • Fight Night Round 4: I am

NFL Head Coach (x 2). MLB Front Office Manager.

You'd think the big companies are going crazy by releasing managerial simulation type of games. However, it seems they've figured out there is a small, but very dedicated group of gamers who will play these types of games.

The mainstream success of Championship Ma....ahem...Football Manager could be a direct contributor to these games being produced as well. I am a huge fan of these types of games -- when done right that ... Read More

If you can't get enough Madden or NCAA coverage here at OS, we might be able to help you. Our Network site, MaddenMania, has launched a new frontpage complete with it's own dedicated content and discussion. I just wrote a blog post today asking the question, "How should EA name the next Madden?"

Be sure to give that post as well as our others a look. The content will be updated several times each week!

Peter Moore is promising something never before seen in a video game with Fight Night Round 4's reveal tonight on the Spike VGAs.

I have been reading some speculation but I figured I'd share some of the more popular ideas of what it could be thus far.

  • An Online Boxing Federation Mode.
  • Advanced collision detection beyond what we've ever seen thus far in a video game.
  • Tyson vs. Ali - for the first time ever.
There is definitely a buzz around this product...What other ... Read More

Caley Roark wrote a great article yesterday talking about which sports 2K Sports should look into expanding their game library to. Here are a few more of my own personal choices that he didn't include:

  1. Soccer - The world's favorite sport is also the world's favorite video game sport. No sport sells quite like soccer does to gamers worldwide. If 2K could make a great soccer game, they could fund the rest of their lineup with that and NBA 2K easily.
  2. Golf - Sure, Tiger Woods PGA

With all the current (annual) fuss about the BCS ongoing still, let's take a break from reality and visit the digital football realm. Everyone remember the NCAA Footballs at the turn of the century where they had a playoff option as well as the bowl option?

Sigh.

That was just an incredible option to have and I thoroughly enjoyed playing out my fantasy with a playoff at the end of each year. Chances are, knowing how the NCAA operates, they probably caught wind of this ... Read More
