My post title is vague, but I just want to say our review of The Show for the PS3 is coming within the next few hours, so be sure to keep hitting that refresh button as I honestly have no idea when it'll exactly be ready!
This is an article I wrote for MM:

EA Sports signed an exclusivity deal with the NFL some years ago which put an end to all competition on the NFL video games front. Thanks to a case being taken by the US Supreme Court, that deal and many others like it could be in jeopardy.

I just wanted to apologize to our faithful OS readers for the lateness of the baseball reviews. We've had a few snafus on getting the games on time (for The Show) and we've been trying to make sure we have our bases covered with MLB 2K9 since there were some big issues which are being patched. Here is the schedule:

MLB 2K9 Review - Either late tonight or tomorrow morning.

The Show Review - Friday or Saturday, depending on how much time I can spend with the game.

This is an excerpt from an article I posted on MM:

I don't know about you guys, but the new improvements to WR/DB interaction could completely change the way Madden is played forever.

For those not in the know, Ian Cummings posted a new blog talking about the specific aspects of the new WR/DB mechanics for Madden NFL 10.

We just got it in from our author Dave Branda, who reviewed the game last year as well. I'm not giving anything away as far as what he thinks about the game, but expect the review to be up either tonight or tomorrow morning first thing!

So if you are on the fence about the game, hopefully the review helps you out one way or another!

Just as a side note, our MLB 09: The Show review will be coming much later, by late Friday at the earliest since I won't get a copy until ... Read More

That's right, it seems as if OS is fully abuzz with spring fever as everyone gets ready for the quickly oncoming baseball game release dates. It may be the 70 degree high temperatures all week, or it may be the fact Spring Training games start today, but I am very excited about the grand old ballgame myself.

Last year, I thought MLB '08: The Show was one of the best games of the year and this year's edition could be even better.

Major League Baseball 2K9 looks like it ... Read More

I want to start this blog out by making the most obvious statement of the year, it just has to be said.

Gameplay cannot be 100% realistic in a video game because the medium simply does not allow for such realism. Rather, think about it this way....the only way for MLB: The Show to be 100% realistic is to actually be able to look at the field the same way Josh Hamilton could while smelling the smell of the stadium and feeling the same heat of the hot Texas sun. That's 100% realism ... Read More

It seems like a lot of folks preach realism in gameplay first and foremost before any other aspect of a game. Many say that the closer a game gets to being realistic, the more fun it is.

I'm going to disagree. In my opinion, gameplay fun tops out at 80-90% realism, as some aspects of sports aren't suitable to be enjoyed in a digital environment. Therefore, if a game was 100% realistic, it wouldn't be as fun as a game which as 85% realistic. Check out my "fun" chart for what I'm ... Read More

EA Freestyle is an interesting new direction for EA to take if they choose to continue creating games in the same mold as 3 on 3 NHL Arcade.

As I said in my review of 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, the gameplay is technically VERY solid. The problem with the game is that the resources just weren't dedicated to it and the game suffers from a lack of depth because of that.

In my (very) humble opinion, EA should look into doing something like this for the rest of their titles, except ... Read More

What do you think about the above image? Has 2K gone too far with Pepsi products in MLB 2K9? Is this sort of thing a good or bad thing for sports gamers? And does it ruin the sense of realism?

My answers are, in order. Whoa, is that Pepsi One Ballpark? Yes, they have. It depends on how the developers implement it and yes, if it's done like above it will help ruin the sense of realism.

I'm all for companies

And you just thought I was done! I have covered presentation, line play and the passing game...however I have a few gripes about the running game. See if you agree!

  • The running game is static too. Why? I would say it has to do with the offensive line not blocking, the weird collision detection and the lack of animations of the little interactions between players. Right now, if you run into one of your own players you either run in place or bounce to the side. Instead, with

We are now in the home stretch. At least one and possibly two more questions to go (depending on how this one plays out). Only one person can get points for this one.

Right now anyone can get the question right and be in the game, but if you don't get in now, you have no chance at winning when the final question is posted this afternoon.
