We are getting into the bulk of the spring severe weather season here in Oklahoma, so my time to blog is probably going to be running shorter and shorter. However, here is a thought I had today while watching the NCAA Football 10 sizzle video again: these videos never show anything and while fans break them down like crazy, I don't think they really do a good job of hyping folks up since they don't directly convey their intended message.

Some of the videos do make the hype machine ... Read More

The process has already begun. The PC-ization of console gaming began with this past generation with the advent of patching games via XBL or PSN.

Now we're slowly seeing more and more of the old PC standards creep into games such as expansion packs and the like.

In my opinion, PC gaming in the early part of this decade was about as close to gaming bliss as you can get, and we are seeing consoles emulate that. Little Big Planet already encourages users to create content, ... Read More

Seriously, I think I'm about to cry.

Why do all wrestling games insist on making themselves 'fighting' games when everyone knows that the 'sport' is a form of entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to bash wrestling with that comment, I love wrestling.

However, the games are pretty terrible today.

Here is my initial idea to improve wrestling games: make them like wrestling. You can include a lot of the same elements as today's wrestling games, but ... Read More

I'm taking a break from sports gaming today only because I find this so fascinating since all I hear from people who do not like baseball is that they think the games are too long.

However, the facts tell a different story. The average MLB Game is roughly 2 hours 50 minutes long while the average NFL game is around 3 hours 7 minutes long.

Furthermore, the action in an NFL game is constrained to as little as 12 minutes while in baseball the ball is almost always in play. ... Read More

Usually, Q2 is a pretty quiet time of the year as far as sports gaming is concerned with only one or two big games due out during that time period. This year, that is completely out the window with a ton of big names coming out in the next three months. Here are the games I'm most excited about:

PunchOut! (May 18) - If this game even lives up to 80% of it's namesake, it will be one of the best Wii games released thsi year. I'm keeping an eye on this one.

Virtua Tennis ... Read More

We can't waste any time here, I got space limitations I put on myself, so consider this claim: "Claiming you are getting cheesed is the single biggest crutch being used to mask the fact you simply are terrible at a game."

Don't get me wrong, there are glitches out there and people do exploit them and it should drive you batty. But I'm beginning to see a trend among 'sim' gamers that whenever they play someone online that doesn't fit exactly into how a team is 'supposed' to play, they ... Read More

Picture this.

You are locked into a tight battle with an opponent online in a sports game (we're being vague here on purpose to not name names) when suddenly he decides to pull out the cheese or start exploiting a glitch. The game ends in a blowout.

The end result of this unfortunate encounter is a busted up controller from you as well as your dog hiding underneath the bed because of the expletives you have just filled the room with.

Maybe your results aren't ... Read More

I have talked about this at different points over the last few months on this blog, but I want to make this very important point one more time on it's own:

One year is not nearly enough time to create an excellent sports game in this generation of consoles.

My evidence? Just look around, have there been any sports games which have gone from terrible to great in a single year? How many hits on the PS3 and XBox 360 had a one year development cycle? Games are simply too complex ... Read More

There is still a lot of time until Madden NFL 10 reaches store shelves, but it has been a long time since I saw this much buzz about a Madden game so far off.

The hype is growing so big right now that the developers at EA Tiburon are going to have to deliver the absolute best Madden game in a long time. Anything less will be seen as a massive disappointment by everyone involved.

EA has basically gotten their wish, people are believing again. If they don't deliver, this ... Read More

You are locked in an epic battle of strength, adversity, and courage. You have made it to your opponents red zone, it's time to go score a touchdown.

Then a call comes in from the other room.

"Honey, we need to run to Home Depot."

Game over. At least that's how it has usually been with most sports games in history. But developers are catching onto a cool trend that um, should have been in games a long time ago.

In-Game saves.

I want to start a new series on my blog where I will pose a simple question: What is up with that? The question will deal with some kind of a common issue in sports games that bugs the heck out of me that could be easily remedied to have a much more dramatic effect in realism.

My first issue?

What's up with stadiums always being filled to capacity in most next-gen sports games? Why can't we have realistic dynamic attendance?

It bugs me, I really want to know ... Read More

I must admit, when I gave MLB 09: The Show a 9.5, I kind of figured I'd be playing the game quite a bit (hence the high score). But I'm now over 50 games into my first season, playing every game.

When you take into account I have had to study for midterms and make a move back home for Spring Break...I have had less than ideal time for gaming. So I'm personally shocked that I have played the game this much.

A few things I wished I could've talked about in the review ... Read More

Fight Night Round 4 is coming later this year, which should be very exciting news for boxing fans the world over. Unfortunately, in a sport where exclusivity doesn't make sense, where is the competition?

That is a question that was recently posed to me and as I started to look, I began to draw a few conclusions of my own. Why aren't there more boxing games? Here are a two very good, practical, and very related reasons I could come up with:

1)The sport itself is in a ... Read More
