I have discussed some presentation and off field things and the play in the trenches, two things that really bug me about Madden. The next thing I'm about to talk about is near and dear to my heart as well...the passing game. Here are some of the things that bug me and I hope are fixed this year:

  • Receiver/DB Interactions suck: Between no penalties being called (except what seems like random circumstances sometimes) to players just bumping into each other, I've had enough of this

Looks like Goallout13 is getting closer to winning with another point earned this past question. That puts him at 3 with a slew of guys at 1 point and kwrichardson at 2 points. Here is the full breakdown:

Standings
goallout13 - 3 points
kwrichardson - 2 point
asb37, HechticSooner, bryan_05 - 1 point

So with that, question #5 will be given to just one person...the first person to answer the situation correctly. The person to answer this question will ... Read More

Three more to go after this, the standings look like this today:

Standings
goallout13 - 2 points
kwrichardson, HechticSooner, bryan_05 - 1 point

So what about today's first question? You have until the afternoon to post a response...best 3 responses get a point. For this question, there is no one right answer...I'm looking for ... Read More

In case you missed my blog yesterday, I went over some very basic but very important areas of the presentation that EA needs to focus on to make their game more like Sundays. Today, I'm going to look at the area that EA has said they have fixed several times, but they still haven't come close, the trenches.

  • For some reason, we can't turn this thing. Want to know why an NFL game is so unique from play to play and why Madden is so boring to so many people? You can map out what the

Looks like we got us a ballgame! One more question for today..and luckily for you I'm going to stick to GM type of functions for the next few questions!

Here's how the next few questions are going to work, I'm going to explain a hypothetical situation and you have to tell me what the proper move for a GM would be. For each case I will describe, there will be one right answer and a bunch of ok answers.

For the first 3 people who get the RIGHT answer, they will get a ... Read More
The game continues. I'm throwing Question #2 is out there now, maybe it will be a little easier? This is a googlers nightmare contest because the information you want will not be in one easy place.

Question: The Chicago/St. Louis baseball feud has been going on for quite some time. What was the score of the first game for the Chicago White Stockings professional club between these two cities and what was the date? Of course, that's not easy enough, I also want to know who pitched that ... Read More

So here is the deal, we have a copy of MLB Front Office Manager sitting around and in order to figure out what to do with it, I came up with an idea. The smartest baseball mind out there should receive the game!

So what does this mean for you? It means you had better be checking OS throughout the day over the next week as I post questions in my blog. The first person to answer the question I post in an entry will earn a point. The user with the most points at the end of this week ... Read More

It seems like every thread or story or feature or any discussion that even remotely mentions Madden NFL Football turns into a full-fledged wishlist thread by page 2. So what else could I do other than dedicate a full week towards what areas of the game I'd love to see the Madden guys really improve? Here are a few for today:

  • Generally Speaking, the Little Things are Missing - Madden has sucked at the little animations and the little things over the past few years. This has got

It has been a love/hate/love kind of week for me in regards to our #1 man from Tiburon Ian Cummings. After yesterday's announcement about Madden NFL 10 info coming during halftime of the Super Bowl alongside a seasonal mission statement, I can honestly feel pumped about the future of the series. Here are some reasons why I am slowly getting excited:

  • When have we ever had this kind of access this early? If you answer anything other than never you are kidding yourself.
  • When have

After what has been a rather disappointing reaction from gamers and critics alike, MLB Front Office Manager is quickly descending into disappointment category before I even get to sink my paws deep into the game.

I do know one thing, this game is no Out of the Park Baseball. It might even be on the same level as Baseball Mogul. Actually, it isn't, not even close.

EA's first attempt into the console text-sim genre was a colossal failure before they succeeded (at least ... Read More

Something which has gone overlooked, but I think is very significant is the fact EA Sports is getting ready to release a slimmed-down and arcade version of one of its more successful games quality wise, and they aren't doing it with the street brand attached to it.

Indeed, EA is releasing 3 on 3 NHL Arcade on X Box Live and PSN early next month with (so far) little fanfare. I think it's important to take a step back and take in how important this might be.

3 on 3 NHL ... Read More

Sports game development is stuck in a never-ending rut thanks to the realities of business and the realities of the sports they try to model.

Simply put, consumers have it ingrained into our heads that a new year means a new season which also means new sports games. So blindly we flock to the stores en-masse to pick up the latest edition of our coveted sports games.

All of that means that it is still profitable to develop one game a year instead of one every two years. ... Read More

One trend I have seen taking over big budget sports games the past couple of years is that there are very few complete and utter duds in sports gaming anymore.

I know some here want to proclaim some games as terrible, but I'm talking about the sports games like NBA Live 06 and NFL Gameday 2001. I'm talking about major releases with such large budgets that it is just a head scratcher how they turned out so terrible.

It seems like we don't have any incredible hits either ... Read More

All of the news coming out of the SCEA folks about MLB '09: The Show is nothing short of exciting. The AI fixes mentioned in this blog post at Playstation.com are all much needed but also much anticipated.

When you take into account the franchise mode fixes and additions which have also been announced, you already have a game which is going to be worth the price of entry.

I bought a PS3 just to play The Show this past year after hearing the enormous hype and rave reviews ... Read More

Since I'm not reviewing the game (our very own Terry Crouch will be doing those honors) I can issue the following proclamation without much hesitation: Skate 2 will be the first bonafide hit this year in sports gaming.

I know the demo impressions are somewhat mixed but this game is going to be highly regarded when it is released. One thing I have learned is to never judge a demo's qualities exclusively, since the games usually end up looking much better and playing much more complex ... Read More
