Re: Offensive schemes and tactics

I created a pistol playbook from scratch. Used Clemson as a base and wiped it clean. I picked the formations that "visually" appealed to me (spread) since I don't have much experience playing the pistol. I also threw in some wildcat in there for fun. It's a blast to play. I took UMass to the MAC Championship my first time around and beat E Michigan. Somehow they still ended up ranked above me (they were 11-2, I was 10-3 with stronger SOS). I beat ULL in the GoDaddy Bowl (ULL's logo is ugly) 41-3 and ended up ranked 24. My running back ended up winning the Doak because I couldn't stop throwing interceptions; I had to resort to pounding the ball.

Now's my dilemma: Should I stay another season? Both my QB and star RB are only juniors (I doubt they're declaring). I got an offer from Stanford, my in-game alma mater, in the carousel to be their OC but I turned off my console becasue I wanted some time to mull it over. I also like the idea of staying at UMass and moving it (and Maryland, maybe?) to the Big 10. You guys have any ideas? I plan on committing to this dynasty so I want every decision I make to be emotionally significant. I like the idea of bolting to Stanford but I also desire as much realism as possible. What would you guys (or a real-life coach) do?

(I know this post got kinda off-topic, but I can't create a new thread since this is a brand-new account...)

Just thought I would let you know - you can see all offers you will get by declining each one and back out of Coaching Carousel and exit dynasty without auto-save taking effect. This way, you can see all of your offers and just reload your dynasty without having to restart your system.

As for what to do, idk. IRL coaches are always looking to advance, and most jump at the opportunity to head to their alma-mater unless their current job is better.

I'm all for realism, and realistically a coach would jump at the chance to coach his alma mater.

Thanks, guys. While I've got you here, I have another question. I was looking at J-KITS sliders, and he mentions how you should be user catching. How does this work? I've only got the user catch indicator pop up once before, and I have no idea how I got it.

So like what Auburn did under Tuberville or like what Stanford did under Harbaugh? How do you work it out in-game?

I'm definitely a run-first guy myself, but I tend to stay away from those three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust-style playbooks just because I think I get claustrophobic with the field. What has been the key to you being successful with the offense?

Honestly, I am not sure because I just switched to slow game speed and the dynasty was with Georgetown (because DC) and that was on normal.

I think a lot of it had to do with having conservative, methodical play calling that would make the system seem to be a snoozefest, especially at first, and playing as a DT in player lock on defense.

I get flustered and if I am playing absolutely awful my blood pressure rises to where I almost have an anxiety/panic attack.

However I passed more if I had a massive deficit and those games were nerve racking but I won some and lost others of those.

Air Raid passing game. Shallow Cross, Mesh, Stick, Y Cross, Smash, Air Raid Under, etc.

I tend to be a 45/55 run/pass team. Sometimes I have games where I am 50/50. If I have a strong OL/HB I run more than not and probably use the MTSU book.

Depending on personnel I either go no huddle or don't. The Air Raid passing concepts are the bread and butter of what I am about though.

Favorite Playbooks:
WSU
MTSU
TTU
OSU

I fancy myself a team building head coach so I always force myself to use my coordinators O and D scheme/playbook when I switch teams.
