Re: Offensive schemes and tactics

Hey guys. Thanks for the info. I have a few questions about these formations. I realized you have to have some certain things to run on NCAA 14. On 06, you could just go the outside. If I want to include some of these plays in my playbook, how do I know which plays need a speedy RB and which ones need a power RB?

I have found a lot of success in varying playcalling and running a lot of option, but my basic rule has tended to be to run the power back inside and the faster back outside. The option allows for variety, but if you want to keep it that simple and Black-and-white, I'd say plunges and dives for the big guy and stretches for the smaller guy.

The speed option has not worked for me going to the outside. I wish it would. On 06, I was good at it. My QB and HB are decent fast. Still they get wrapped up. Or to me, the pitch looks and feels funky. Too much hesitation.

This is always a good guideline to follow.

I always like following an if/then approach to running. If the inside is messy, run outside, and vice versa. If they blitz, audible to either a quick pass or PA. It gives me inspiration to return to running an I-formation/run heavy offense.

Outside runs, in general, don't work in this game.

Honestly, that ^^^^ is good to know. Sometimes, you think it's just you or ME in this case. It's the game sometimes.

Running outside isn't too bad, just needs to be read correctly, and realistically.
For your outside zone/stretch runs pay attention to the last defender on the line. If he is inside of your Tackle/TE, this gives you a "Bounce" read, to bounce to the outside. If he's straight up on your Tackle/TE, this is "Bang" read, and head to the gap found at your G/T. The "Bend" read is when the last defender is to the outside of your T/TE, and you bend your path back to the gap between your Guards.
For Power schemes, I divide the field in half and count the defenders to the half I'm running to, if outnumbered it is time to check out of the play or flip it.

Re: Offensive schemes and tactics

I will either flip the play or shift my lineman's blocking scheme. For outside runs its always a crap shoot. First of all, I always look to see if a safety is stepping up in the box. I make sure to always run away from the blitz if I can help it. Also, I look to see which side the defense is shading to. I count number of men on each side of my center, and whichever side has the least amount of bodies, I run to that side (unless I don't have enough blockers, then I will just audible the play). I run pretty decent, but since turning off fatigue and all of the coaching perks, my 200+ yard run games are few and far between. I have to really grind it out to break 100 yards, but it is worth the fight.
