While the typical yards from HB Leon Allen weren't there, the ability for Allen to draw the defense's attention allowed QB Damarcus Smith to do damage through the air. "That has to be one of the worst played games I've ever seen,
said a noticeably angry Coach Spielman during the post game press conference. "Our quarterback turns the ball over 7 times! That's completely unacceptable. The worst is the blame can't lie solely on him because our offensive line barely gave him time to go through his reads before getting hit in the mouth."
The Hilltoppers would struggle mightily in this contest before the final whistle would blow. Turnovers will go down as the key component to this game as one time continued to give the ball away and the other team found ways to capitalize on those opportunities.
Next week, WKU has a week off to fix whatever issues were present during today's game before facing Texas State in Week 13.

"I thought we played a strong game overall today. We were having success moving the ball both through the air and on the ground allowing us to use a full complement of our offense today," said Coach Spielman. "I was very impressed with Leon's [Allen] ability to find the hole created by the offensive line and pick up good yardage."
With the win, WKU moves to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Next week they travel to West Point to take on the Army Black Knights in a non-conference game. The Army triple option attack should prove to be a formidable opponent for a defense that has seemingly found its groove lately.

The Hilltoppers cruise to a solid home victory behind the legs of Leon Allen. Allen would use two long rushing touchdowns on the day, plus a short push into the endzone to finish the game with over 200 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns to lead his team to victory. Despite the 3 interceptions thrown by starting Damarcus Smith, the Hilltoppers strong defense and rushing game would ultimately be too much for the Troy Trojans to handle.
"I'm very impressed with the way Leon ran the ball today. He found the holes the offensive line was making and punished the defense," said Coach Spielman. "My special shout out goes to the guys that always don't get recognition: the offensive line. You don't rush for over 250 yards as a team without a strong push from your linemen, they really got things done in the trenches today."
With the win, the Trojans suffer their first conference loss of the season and only their second loss overall. Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers find themselves alone atop the conference now with an unblemished conference record of 4-0. Next week, WKU hits the road to take on the Georgia State Panthers.

Another tightly contested battle manages to go WKU's way as they outlast ULL in Bowling Green, KY 26-17 to notch a second straight victory moving them to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference. While the game may not have been the spectacle the coach and the team would've liked to put on for the visiting prospects, they still get to come away with a win.
"I'm really proud of our team today. By no means was that our best performance on either side of the ball out there but we still managed to play well enough to come away with the W," said Coach Spielman.
