After going up by 14 with 1:22 remaining in the game, the WKU Hilltopppers appeared to believe the game was decided; however, their opponent had different plans. Managing to score a touchdown to cut the lead in half in 17 seconds, the ULM Warhawks knew that if they recovered an onside kick they had a chance. And that would be exactly what they did. After recovering the onside kick they would score another touchdown leaving only 52 seconds remaining on the game clock. So within a matter of 30 seconds of game clock the game went from a 14 point lead to a tie game. Unfortunately for ULM, their good fortune would run out as WKU would drive down the field far enough to setup a game winning 47 yard field goal as time expired.

"They torched our defense first and foremost today. That is by far our worst defensive outing of the season to date," said Coach Spielman. "Hats off however to the opposing coaching staff for never letting their players quit because apparently ours thought the final whistle had blown and let up some."

At the end of the day however the Hilltoppers make it out with another win moving them to 4-2 overall and 2-o in conference play.

Buffalo walks into WKU's house and comes away with a narrow victory. In a game that saw the home team (and favorite to win) fall behind 17-0 before getting on the scoreboard, the Hilltoppers just couldn't stop putting themselves in bad situations ultimately leading to their second loss of the season and second in a row.

There were two outstanding plays by the Buffalo defense in this game as their 4th turnover (3rd interception) was caught off the shoe of the defensive player's feet right before making contact with the ground allowing them to kill more clock in the 4th quarter. The second play was on a 4th and 7 near the end of the game and the Hilltoppers out of timeouts with the ball. WKU's QB saw his slot receiver get behind his man on a go route and threw the ball into the endzone for what looked like a sure go ahead touchdown when the Buffalo DB dove to deflect the pass at the last minute. "We turned the ball over way too much today but those two final big plays by their defense was as good as it gets. If they don't make either one of those plays we at least tie this game up and make it go to overtime," said Coach Spielman.

The other bit of big news coming out of this game is Senior HB Antonio Andrews suffered a broken wrist early in the contest to put him out for 10 weeks, possibly ending his senior season early for the Hilltoppers.

With the loss WKU falls to 3-2 (1-0) for the season.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers go down in a tight contest to suffer their first loss of the season. The story of this game came down to turnovers, "We were moving the ball all day but you can't keep giving the other team the ball the way we did," said Coach Spielman. "Especially not in the redzone. If we get a touchdown there instead of a turnover this game just might end differently."

First game with updated sliders and it was a battle, but fun. Definitely thinking the slider difficulty increase was the right way to go.
