The final score was not indicative of how close a game this was.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, after Jose Reyes led off the game with a single and Maicer Izturis homered. After the shaky start, C.C. Sabathia would settle down and pitch 7 strong innings, giving up 3 runs and 8 hits.

The Yanks took the lead in the top of the 3rd on consecutive 2-out RBI singles by Mark Teixeira, Garrett Jones and Alex Rodriguez.

The Blue Jays came back in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 3 when Pompey led off the inning with a triple to center. Reyes would bring him home on a chopped groundout to third.

The Yankees immediately took the lead in the top of the 6th. With two out and no one on, consecutive singles by Austin Romine, Stephen Drew and Brendan Ryan.

The score would remain 4-3 until the top of the 9th, when more clutch 2 out hitting would propel the Bombers. Singles by Jacoby Ellsbury and Chase Headley was followed by a towering home run by Mark Teixeira to lead the team to a 7-3 victory.

Jim Miller picked up a 6 out save in relief of Sabathia.

With the win, the Yankees are now an astounding 21-6, 6 games ahead of Boston in the AL East. The Blue Jays drop to 10-18, 11.5 games behind.

Masahiro Tanaka pitched 7 1/3 innings, scattering 3 hits and 1 run, as the Blue Jay bats looked mostly helpless.

Jacoby Ellsbury scored the first run of the game in the top of the first. Leading the game off with a triple to left. Chase Headley drove him home with a single, one of his three hits in the game.

In the third, Brian McCann's sleeping bat finally woke up on a home run to right, his 2nd on the year. He is still struggling at the plate (.187 BA), but at lest it was a promising sign.

Carlos Beltran extended his hitting streak to 16 games on a single & error to right. 2 batters later he would score on a sacrifice fly by Austin Romine.

The Blue Jays finally got on the board, with their only run when Joey Bats led off the inning with a home run to center.

Andrew Miller came in with 1 out in the 8th and retired all 5 batters he faced.

With the win, the Yankees now improve to 20-6 and remain 6 games ahead in the AL East. The Blue Jays drop to 10-17.

Two home runs in the first 3 innings, including a grand slam by Alex Rodriguez, who started his first (and like last) game in the outfield, gave the Yankees a 7-1 lead, that they would not relinquish.

Chris Capuano struggled some in the 4th inning giving up 3 runs in the frame, but overall pitched a solid 6 innings.

The win moved the Yankees to 18-6, 5 games ahead of the BoSox in the AL East. With the win, the Yankees have now won all 8 series so far this season. They go for the sweep in the next game, as Nathan Eovaldi (2-0) takes on Joe Kelly (1-2).

4 home runs in the 1st inning ended this game before it began. Ellsbury led off the game with a double off the green monster. Rodriguez and Teixeira decided it would be easier to hit it over it. The Yankees would hit a second set of back to back home runs when Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius would go yard in the first.

Michael Pineda had a shaky first inning, allowing 2 walks and an RBI single to David Ortiz, but he settled down. He pitched 6 solid innings allowing just 4 hits and the 1 run in the first.

The Yankees (17-6) have now won 6 straight and moved 4 games in front of the Red Sox (13-10).

Yankee pitching got hit hard in the first week of the season, but has since settled down. While the team ERA of 3.56 ranks only 19th on the season, the Yankees have only given up 4 runs or more once in their last 17 games.

The Yanks rank 2nd in batting average, hitting .278 so far, and lead the league in home runs (34). The offense has come from all over, including some surprises.

Chase Headley leads the team in home runs with 7, and Didi Gregorius leads in batting average at .373. His .373/.439/.627 hashline has been particularly impressive.

Jacoby Ellsbury has been a beast on the basepaths, stealing 15 bases in the first 22 games of the season, without being caught stealing all year.

The only truly disappointing hitter thus far has been Brian McCann (.186/.275/.271).

On the mound so far, I've gotten what I expected out of my starters. Masahiro Tanaka has been good, but not great (2-1, 2.78 ERA, .246 BAA).

Closer Dellin Betances has been outstanding to this point (9 SV, 1.38 ERA, .209 BAA) but might begin to suffer from rubber arm if I don't get him some rest. He's pitched 13 innings in relief in 11 appearances. That's largely due to Andrew Miller.

Miller has been a disappointment so far, (7.50 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, .292 BAA). There have been a couple of occasions already this season, where I went to different options, (notably Adam Warren), in late and close situations. I had been hoping that I would be able to split some of the closing duties with him, but that appears not to be the case.

Callups:

Jose Pirela made his debut on April 29th. He came up after Brett Gardner suffered a head contusion on the 27th. Gardner is expected to miss about 3 weeks.

Pirela was called up due to his ability to play nearly every position (the only position he lacks is 3B). With only 1 extra middle infielder and 2 dedicated third basemen on the team (Headley, Rodriguez), I needed the flexibility to give the middle infield some rest. He had put up a hashline of .400/.421/.491 in Scranton prior to being called up. If he continues to hit that well, he'll be hard to send back down.

Jacoby Ellsbury won the game on a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 7th to put the Yankees up for good in a pitchers duel.

http://www.twitch.tv/sonsart2/c/6624933

C.C. Sabathia pitched 8 strong innings, allowing only 1 run.

Dellin Betances picked up his 9th save, but had to work for it. Up by 2, he loaded the bases with no one out, but struck out Rivera for the first out, followed by a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 1, but got Dejesus to line out to Ellsbury to convery the save.

With the win, the Yankees improve to 16-6, winners of 5 consecutive games, and 7 consecutive series.

The Yankees won the 4th consecutive game and 7th consecutive series, 4-3. Home runs by Carlos Beltran, Didi Gregorius and Brendan Ryan drove in all 4 Yankee runs.

Masahiro Tanaka was solid pitching 6+ innings, giving up 9 hits, a walk and 3 earned runs. While he didn't get a decision in the game, in part, that may be the manager's fault. Having thrown 109 pitches and giving up 2 runs in the first 6 innings, the manager decided to try to nurse a 3-2 lead, asking for 1 more inning out of his starter. When the first pitch was doubled down the line by Franklin, he was immediately pulled. David Carpenter retired the first 3 batters he faced without alloeing the runner to advance, but Longoria lined to center to score the run and tie the game.

In an ironic twist of fate, Carpenter would be credited with the win. In the bottom of the inning, Didi Gregorius homered to give the Yankees the lead for good.

With the win, the Yankees are now 15-6. The Rays drop to 10-11

Mark Teixeira hit a walk off grand slam in an exciting game that the Yankees tried on several occasions to give away.

The Yankee defense gave up 3 errors resulting in 2 unearned runs for starter Chris Capuano in the first 3 innings.

They would come back in the bottom of the fourth with 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead on a 2 RBI single by Alex Rodriguez and an RBI single by Austin Romine.

After pitching a tidy 7th inning, reliever Jared Burton gave up a single and a walk to lead off the top of the 8th before he was pulled in favor of Adam Warren. After Tejada sacrificed to move both runners into scoring position and Wright struck out, it looked as though the Yankees might survive the threat, but former Yankee Curtis Granderson doubled of Jacoby Ellsbury's head scoring both runs. Granderson was thrown out at third trying to stretch the hit into a triple.

In the bottom of the inning, the Yankees would tie the game. With 1 out, Mark Teixeira tripled to center. He would have been out at 3rd by about 20 feet, but the throw came in off line. Garrett Jones drove him home on a base hit to center.

Adam Warren would come out again to pitch the 9th and looked strong as he struck out Nieuwenhuis and d'Arnaud, but gave up a home run to Eric Campbell to put the Mets ahead 5-4.

Jenrry Mejia would try to get the save for the Mets, but the Yankee bats came alive. Stephen Drew led off the inning with a single to center. Brendan Ryan sacrificed him to second base. Jacoby Ellsbury reached second on a slow ground ball to shortstop, but Tejada overthrew the ball to first baseman Campbell. Ellsbury was credited with a single and Tejada charged with an error that put runners on 3nd and third. Hot hitting Chase Headley was intentionally walked to load the bases, before Mark Teixeira came to the plate. On a 2-2 count, Teixeira hit a home run into the 2nd deck of the right field stands for the game winner.

With the win, the Yankees move to 13-6, 2 games ahead of Boston in the AL East. The Yankees have yet to lose a series on the season. The Mets drop to 10-9

The Yankees improved to 12-6 after beating the Mets 4-3 tonight. Didi Gregorius was the hero driving in the game tying run in the sixth and the game winner in the 8th.

The Mets scored in the top of the first on a single by David Wright, followed by a triple by Michael Cuddyer.

The Yankees immediately answered back in the bottom of the inning with back to back homers to start the game by Brett Gardner (2) and Chase Headley (7).

Not to be outdone, the Mets came back to take the lead 3-2 on a 2-run home run by Michael Cuddyer.

Both starters settled down and pitched into the sixth inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Yankees rallied with 2 outs, with singles by Garrett Jones, Carlos Beltran and an RBI single by Gregorius.

With the game now tied at 3, and 2 out in the bottom of the 8th, the Yankees would strike again. Carlos Beltran walked to start the rally. Jacoby Ellsbury came in to pinch run and promptly stole second, his league-leading 14th stolen base on the young season. Didi Gregorius drove him home for the game winner on a double to right.

Dellin Betances was called on to get the final 3 outs, but had to work for it afer Nieuwenhuis singled to lead off the inning and Campbell sacrificed him over to second. Lagares grounded out to second moving the runner to 3rd. Flores then came in to pinch hit for Recker and walked to put men on the corners with 2 out, but Tejada struck out to end the game.

With the win, the Yankees improve to 12-6, 2 games ahead of the Red Sox, and look to win their 6th consecutive series tomorrow when either Nathan Eovaldi or Chris Capuano takes on Bartolo Colon. The Mets are tied for the NL East lead with Washington at 10-8.

The Tigers avoided the sweep against the Yankees largely because of the bat of J.D. Martinez. He homered twice in the game, including a game-tying blast in the bottom of the 9th to send the game to extra innings.

The Yankees had their chances. In what can be described as a managing blunder, the Yankees could very well have scored n the top of the 12th, and at the very least kept the game going.

Didi Gregorius led off the inning with a single. With weak hitting Stephen Drew up (.194), the manager elected to let Drew hit, instead of trying to sacrifice the runner over to second. It cost the Yankees dearly. After Drew struck out, Jacoby Ellsbury lined to right for a single. The single would have likely scored Gregorius had he been on second, but even if he had only reached third, he would have scored on a deep fly out to the left field corner by Brett Gardner. The manager was quoted as saying, "Lesson learned" in the post-game press conference.

In the bottom of the inning, Ian Kinsler doubled to left to lead off the inning. After a ground out to second advanced Kinsler to third, Collins executed a perfect squeeze bunt that scored Kinsler to end the game.

With the loss, the Yankees drop to 11-5, but still lead the AL East by 2 games over the Red Sox. The Tigers improve their record to 8-8

The Yankees have beaten the Tigers for the third straight game, clinching their 5th consecutive series win, 4-2 in 10 innings.

Yankee pitching, after getting off to a rough start this season, giving up 35 runs in the teams first 5 games, have only given up 22 in their last 10, dropping the team ERA from 7.00 to 3.76 in the process.

Brendan Ryan was the hero tonight, picking up 3 hits including a home run in the 7th to tie the game and ultimately send the game to extra innings, and scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the 10th.

The Yankees will finish the series tomorrow as Masahiro Tanaka takes on David Price as the Yankees go for the 4 game sweep.

With the win, the Yankees move to 11-4, 3 games ahead of the Red Sox and Rays in the AL East and the best record in the majors. The Tigers drop to 7-8.
