The Nationals jumped out on top of the Yankees in the third innhng when they picked up their first 3 hits of the game in consecutive at-bats. After Masahiro Tanaka had struck out the first two batters in the third, Escobar hit a ground rule double, followed by and RBI single to left by Werth and a home run to right by Harper.Tanaka would settle down and hold the Nationals to those 3 runs through 6, a the Yankees troed to claw their way back into the game.
In the top of the 4th, Carlos Beltran hit a solo home run to cut the game to 3-1. The Bombers would score again on an unearned run in the 7th. With one out, Carlos Beltran reached first on a throwing error by Ian Desmond. Chase Headley moved him to scoring position with a single. After Brett Gardner flied out, Brian McCann grounded to reliver Matt Thornton, whose throw to first sailed over the first baseman's head, allowing Beltran to score. Stephen Drew couldn't capitalize with 2 men in scoring position and flied out to left to end the threat.
The Yankee manager then made what worked out to be a mistake. With the pitcher slot due up for the Yanks in the top of the 8th, the Yankee manager tried to squeeze one more inning out of Tanaka. After Rendon led off the bottom of the 7th inning with a double, Tanaka got Desmond and Ramos to ground out but a walk to McLouth and RBI singles by Span and Escobar would turn into the final daggers the Nationals needed.
The Yankees would threaten in both the 8th and 9th inning putting two men on base with one out in both frames, but Janssen and Storen were able to eliminate both threats without allowing runs to score.
With the loss, the Yankees are 29-12, but have only won 7 of their last 13 games. The Nationals improve to 20-21.

The Nationals looked like they might win in the early going. Rendon drove in a run in the first, and another in the 5th on a solo HR to left, but the Yankees seem to find ways to claw their way back into games.
In the top of the 6th, Brett Gardner hit a 2-run home run to right to tie the game.
In the 7th, the Yankees would go up 3-2 when Chase Headley doubled home Mark Teixeira, but the real damage came in the 8th.
The Yankees batted around in the 8th inning when the first six batters in the inning successfully reached base. With the bases loaded, Didi Gregorius cleared the bases with a double into the gap in right center. With the Yanks now up 6-2, Ellsbury singled to put runners on the corners. Mark Teixeira put the game out of reach with a 3-run homer.
Starter Nathan Eovaldi struggled a bit, allowing 6 hits, 5 walks and 2 runs in 5 innings and an unimpressive 103 pitches. The Yankee bullpen continued to excel, allowing just 3 hits and a run in 4 innings of work.
With the win the Yankees improve to 29-11. The Nationals fall to 19-21.

With the game scoreless going into the bottom of the 6th, Chris Capuano gave up 6 consecutive hits, including 2 triples and allowed 4 runs before he was pulled in favor of Adam Warren, but the damage had already been done.
The Yankees threatened in the top of the 7th. With the bases loaded and only 1 out, Brian McCann came to the plate. He grounded into what appeared to be an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play, but SS Escobar overthrew first base, allowing both Carlos Beltran and Chase Headley to score. The 2 runs would turn out to be all the Yankees would be able to muster, as Stephen Drew harmlessly popped out to 3rd to end the inning.
With the loss, the Yankees drop to 28-11.

The Yankees opened the scoring in the top of the 5th, when Chris Young led off the inning with a single to left and Austin Romine drove him heon an RBI double to right center. Brendan Ryan then singled to put men on the corners. Brett Gardner gave the Yankees their 4th consecutive hit on a single down the left field line that scored Romine.
Jose Ramirez relieved Michael Pineda in the top of the 7th, but found himself in trouble quickly. After Perez singled to open the inning, he retired Rios on a fly out to center. Kendry Morales then drove in what would prove to be the only Royal run when he doubled to right. Jim Miller cam in to relieve Ramirez and gave up an infield single to put runners on the corners. Moustakas tried a suicide squeeze, but after the missed bunt attempt, Morales was stuck in no man's land and easily retired. Moustakas eventually grounded out to Drew to end the threat.
The Yankees would take a 4-1 lead on a 2-run, 2 out HR by Chris Young.

Young should have never come to the plate in the inning.
With two out, Brian McCann grounded to shortstop Escobar (who was playing on the right side of 2nd base, but the slow roller forced a high throw that allowed McCann to reach base.
Dellin Betances picked up his league leading 15th save on the day, allowing just a two out single.
With the win, the Yankees improve to a league best 28-10.

Masahiro Tanaka struck out 11 in 6 innings, as the Yankees improved their record to 27-9.
Jose Pirela, who was called up several weeks ago when Brett Gardner was placed on the DL, is making it difficult for the Yankees to send him down. His double, triple, with an RBI and a run scored, has improved his hashline to (.308/.341/.538) in 41 plate appearances. If the Yankees decide to keep him in the majors, the odd man out may be Brendan Ryan (.214/.258/.345). The Yankees may look to trade him for prospects in this case, but it will be a difficult decision.

Nathan Eovaldi pitched 7 scoreless innings, allowing the Yankees to have a 2-0 lead mocing into the bottom of 8th. But with two out and a man on second, Eovaldi gave up a game-tying HR to Jennings, that sent him to the shower, and an unlucky no decision.
The Yankees took the lead back in the top of the ninth, in large part due to a strikeout by Chris Young. Although Young struck out, he advanced to 1st on a wild pitch 3rd strike. Pinch hitter Didi Gregorius moved him to 3rd on a 1 out single, and Jacoby Ellsbury drove him home on a single that ultimately became the game-winning RBI.
With the win, the Yankees are now 26-9.

The Yankees pulled out a victory on 2 walks, a wild pitch, a throwing error and a sacrifice fly.
With 1 out, Alex Rodriguez walked. He reached third on a wild pitch by reliever Grant Balfour and a throwing error by catcher John Jaso who overthrew 2nd base in his attempt to catch Rodriguez on the play. Garrett Jones walked to put men on the corners and Stephen Drew drove home the winning run on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Kevin Kiermaier.
In an odd twist, the official scorer (scoring bug?)considered this run earned (although I'm admitted not sure how that could possibly be, as Rodriguez would not have scored without the throwing error.
With the win, the Yankees move to 25-8.
As always, the game broadcast can be seen at http://twitch.tv/sonsart2

With the win, the Yankees move to 25-8.

Jacoby Ellsbury was the hero this afternoon with 2 late home runs that won the Yankees the game. Down 4-2 entering the bottom of the 8th inning, Carlos Beltran singled to lead off the inning. Ellsbury came up and tied the game on a no doubter off the façade of the second deck in right.
After Andrew Miller and Jared Burton combined to give up a run in the top of the 9th, the Yankees would have to come from behind again. Alex Rodriguez came into the game to pinch hit for Austin Romine, and delivered a single to center. Brian McCann then pinch hit for Brendan Ryan and was hit by a pitch. Didi Gregorius sacrified the tying and winning runs into scoring position for perhaps the teams best hitter, Carlos Beltran. Beltran, who's hitting streak has now reached 20 games was intentionally walked to load the bases. Ellsbury came to the plate with a chance to win it, and boy how he did. He hit a rocket into the right field stands to provide a walkoff grand slam.
With the win, the Yankees move to 24-8. The Orioles drop to 15-16.

With the loss, the Yanks drop to 22-7, but still hold a 6 1/2 game lead over the 15-13 BoSox. The series will continue tomorrow when Nathan Eovaldi (2-3, 3.19) takes on Bud Norris (3-1, 3.09)
