‘The Big Aristotle’ Shaquille O’Neal Booms Back to the Court in NBA® 2K18 Legend Edition

Newly enshrined NBA Hall of Famer, dominant basketball icon and ultimate basketball big man honored on special game cover; fans to receive exclusive memorabilia and in-game content

2K today announced that NBA 2K will feature Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal on the cover of the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition. This special edition of the top-rated NBA video game simulation series for the last 16 years* gives the court to the big man who needs no introduction, “The Diesel…The Big Aristotle…Superman…Shaq Daddy…” with special Shaq-themed memorabilia and content, extending his legacy as the most dominant center in NBA history.

Quote:
“I want to thank NBA 2K for their continuous support of my basketball and broadcast career,” said O’Neal, whose Hall of Fame enshrinement late last year celebrates a storied 19-year career. “I’m excited to be on the cover of the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and I hope my fans have a blast playing it up big man style and re-creating my most legendary in-game moments!”

O’Neal’s Legend Edition appearance on NBA 2K18 marks the third NBA 2K cover appearance for the 15-time NBA All-Star and 14-time All-NBA selection. O'Neal, who played 19 NBA seasons, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

The NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and Legend Edition Gold will be available in both digital and physical formats for $99.99 and $149.99, respectively, on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, and Xbox One. Instead of that, why not threads and posts on how these things that are so bad can be improved on? How can we help the devs implement better defensive rotations? What suggestions can we give to improve the flawed shooting system?

No one wants to do that, everyone wants to bash and complain. The devs who create this game are as talented as any game developer out there, but they're also human. They owned up to 2K17 as not their best work, hell, they pretty much confirmed they were disappointed with the final product. These guys admittedly make mistakes, which is why they come to this board for interaction.

Hell, they look to us for advice and they take it in stride. How many members of this community work for them now? This community used to be the place to go for advice, help, workarounds, working with devs to improve the game. Now the cool thing is to complain, moan, offer no advice and tell the devs hot terrible they are.

Look, this isn't a personal attack on you, or anyone else. My whole point is that we as a community need to take a hard look and see what hell is being posted here every single day. In the end, 95% of us want a good, sim basketball game.
A good sim basketball thing is all i'm looking for. I don't like to see myself as an agenda poster. I've made my fair share of threads talking about how the game could improve. Hell, here's a thread i made with 13 pages talking about how animations in the game could be improved upon.

I remember thinking 2K4 was a piece of junk back in 2004 - not today in 2017. It was their worst effort ever, especially after 2K3. Imagine they released 2K11 and the year after they released Live 07. This is what it was like for me back then. It's not a look-back today, it's how I felt back then. A slap on the face.

And it wasn't a crappy game. And 2K18 won't be 50 bucks extra.
I get that you play almost exclusively online based on your posts, but even there where you can tweak your sliders there's crap you can't control.

- dudes walking out of bounds
- people leaving their man wide open for no reason, terrible rotations
- CPU reacts to your inputs instantly, it's so artificial it's ridiculous
- the fast break game is a joke

This is literally the worst online 2K game ever made. Every mode is an arcade crapshoot.

I absolutely hate when people that are deeply restricted on this game make a claim about the entire thing. Don't speak for
all of us.

Stop defending them, hold them accountable and maybe they'll do something to make an improvement.

Yeah, the "stop complaining, the game is fine" comments by those who only play offline in a single game mode or two are almost as annoying as the fools who say blanket crap like "game is trash bruh!"

Just because you play a small portion of the game in which you have maximum control to influence the gameplay doesn't mean other people who play all its modes don't have the right to be disappointed.

I play every game mode except MyGM and have enjoyed this year's game nowhere near as much as 2K14/15/16 due to all the gameplay issues and bugs that have been discussed endlessly.

So when I and others see them slapping an extra $50 on their collector version coming off the back of a poorly implemented release, yes it seems rude by them "even though we don't HAVE to buy the Shaq premium edition".

This is exactly the point i've been trying to make. It's like a slap in the face

I don't. I'm fine with that, too. Unless its a Barkley or Miller team it doesn't move me much. Neither of those seem likely. I just hope more is done with the looks and play styles of the ones we have. Touch them up first and maybe add in those 80s and 90s filter (WWE2K17 has them) for us to use to top it off.

People positive about the game do point out the modes they play. Most people who dislike the game simply point out they don't like it; and it's the same posters saying the same non-specific things since release.

The things you mentioned do happen; but many of us see the many excellent things the game does. So perhaps you stop speaking on behalf of the community that the shortcomings you've identified contribute to it being a bad game.

But the thread is about the price of the collector's edition, and you're well within your rights to not buy it. But the standard game is still regular price and most customers will be picking it up at this price.

I'm with you Dirk; the irony people are complaining about a $100 dollar game, but the same people probably stood in line for a $800 cell phone that they will trade in the next year for the newest model: y11:

Man I would love for them to bring back the pre modern filters for the classics. I would gladly come out of hiatus if they do. If wwe 2k17 can have filters then I don't see why NBA 2k18 can't.

I'll be getting the standard edition. Not with a pre-order because 2K has lost my trust.
You're 100% missing the point. When someone says they're disappointed with the game, and feel disrespected by 2K because the price of the collectors edition, which many people who did not enjoy the game will probably still want to purchase because they like pre-order bonuses. Just because Dirk thinks everything is fine and dandy in his small little world doesn't mean it's the same for everyone else. If you comb these forums the feedback is precise, that's the point of these forums. People give exact reasons why the game was so bad this year. Most of them are something an offline player who tweaks their own sliders won't see. Respect what others have to say whether you agree with it or not. Stop white-knighting around these forums saying everyone that thinks this game is bad is wrong.

I've made my criticisms of the game very clear. You must not read closely enough because I am in every feedback thread providing advice on the shortcomings of the game and how it can be improved.

There is plenty of excellent feedback and criticism, but plenty that is simply anger that should be ignored and will be ignored. Remember the loudest voices are always those who aren't fans of the game.

Im still not sure why anyone who is not a fan of the game would want to pre-order. If you feel disrespected by a game that you don't like but want to spend a large sum of money on a pre-order for, then you are a very confused consumer.

I just explained that people enjoy getting the collectors edition of games regardless of how hardcore they are.

Once again, all I'm saying is to respect what everyone has to say. You can't say something isn't wrong because you haven't experienced it. Don't live in your own little world, keep an open mind because the people on these forums no matter which side have good things to say.

I speak only for offline modes, and have made that clear over and over again. I don't speak about online issues. People who criticise the game are not asked which modes they play; only those positive about the game are asked what modes they play. If you're accusing me of not respecting legitimate criticism of the game, you either haven't properly read what Ive posted or you are completely disrespectful to positive impressions of the game. Which many people have.

If people are so 'hardcore' that they spend $150 on a collectors edition of a game they didn't really like, then that is sending consumer feedback to the company to keep doing whatever it is they don't like. Im not sure exactly what you're point is. It is a very confused consumer message you are explaining.

I play every 2K for hundreds and consider myself a hardcore customer. But Ill be ordering the standard edition because their is nothing in the collector's edition I like. And Im not averse to ordering gimmicky trinkets; Ive still got some AC statues and Fallout rubbish around the house.
