Fire Pro Wrestling World News Post

A new iteration of the popular Fire Pro Wrestling series is set to debut later this year! Developer Spike Chunsoft released a video teaser video on Twitter, confirming the studio’s plans to release Fire Pro Wrestling World.

Although an official release date has not been set, it appears fans of the popular wrestling franchise can expect the game to drop early this summer. Fortunately for PC gamers, they will be able to play the game early through Steam Early Access. The early access will include online gameplay.

"After a 10-year hiatus, director Tomoyuki Matsumoto’s Fire Pro Wresting World brings the hit franchise to Windows PC and PlayStation 4, with Steam Early Access confirmed for this Summer. Building upon the core gameplay, the game will offer improved graphics, updated features and online matchmaking connecting players from around the world."

Customize every aspect of the match, from your wrestler to the ring itself, in your fight for the championship belt.

PLAY ONLINE
Organize exhibition matches, tournaments, leagues, championship bouts and battle royals with players from around the world.

MIX UP THE RULES
Modes include Deathmatch (steel cage, barbed wire or landmines), MMA rules and no-holds barred Gruesome Fighting.

UNLIMITED CUSTOMIZATION
Create your dream wrestler from over a thousand devastating moves and even more body parts to battle for custom championship belts. Personalize the ring, mat logos and even the referee!

REALISTIC SIMULATION
Give your creations personalities with a robust CPU logic system that defines their every action. Does your wrestler play to the crowd, or play dirty? You provide actors for the ringside drama.

Arcade-y how?

In terms of pure wrestling, it's probably the greatest wrestling engine ever.

In terms of story/universe mode... maybe don't hold your breath.

Here's just one of the ways the editing is in-depth. You can choose what percentage wrestlers will go for what moves & when (and there are a TON of moves in this game. Almost anything you can think of, and they had those on PS2.)

Don't let the sprite graphics fool you into thinking this is an arcade-y game.

Spoiler

If you want to see a gameplay video, here's a newer one made.

This is the PS2 game, but the engine will be very similar.

I hope that Gamestop will have this game when it comes out because it's not listed on their website.

Also, I hope a lot of the features will be carried over from Returns (women wrestlers, mixed matches etc.)

I saw a photo of the create a ring, and the only turnbuckle options are the Japanese/Boxing style long turnbuckles. In Returns you could choose between American style (three) turnbuckles or Boxing style turnbuckles.

Will wrestlers come out with custom belts or not?

Pretty sure this is a digital release only.

I sure hope there is an actual disc release. I remember 10 years ago when it was announced that Fire Pro Returns would be imported to the US, none of the major stores new anything about it including GameStop. Then after it came to the US my local gamestop actually had a few copies of it while Best Buy/Wal-Mart etc. didn't and knew nothing about it. Hopefully sometime in 2017 PS4 will have a physical copy of Fire Pro World and I wouldn't mind forking out $60 for it.

I remember buying Returns in the local Dollar General Store. Stopped in to buy something I had forgotten at Walmart and had a major WTF reaction because all the major stores around here didn't have it.

Wal-Mart was the only one that had it around me and I think it was only like $20.

I never played the original, but have heard nothing but good things. The WWE 2K series is weak, so hopefully this provides me with more enjoyment than that does.

Fire Pro Returns is the only reason I keep my PS2 hooked up. A Steam version is heaven to my ears.

They said steam/pc early release and a later release for PS4. Hopefully it's in stores and I'll gladly pay $59.99 for it.

I think that the graphics are what made it seem arcade-y (i.e. very simplistic moves, kind of like a mortal kombat game, etc) but just going through a lot of the comments on here and watching some more videos it looks like everyone has a lot of good things to say about the game.

As long as the characters in the game aren't made up ones or are even based on real life guys (njpw or wwe doesnt matter) and are editable like how you showed, I could definitely see this holding me over for some time, especially if wwe2k18 is essentially a buggy roster update.

Going by the screenshots looks like the default characters are fictional but there will be CAWs of real life wrestlers. The old Fire Pro games had wrestlers based on real life wrestlers.

So I'm all for trying this and finally having a game that's way more sim than 2k. But I don't have the time I used to in order to play around and customize every little thing. Are the settings and rosters and stuff shareable? Can I download stuff others have done? I'd love to play this game I'm just afraid I don't have the time make it as great as everyone always says it is

Absolutely, for the PC at least.

I'm sure it will be for the PS4 as well, they just haven't detailed/confirmed how that will all work yet for that console.

Even if the settings aren't, they're pretty simple to set up.

I sure hope it's not digital download only. If it is, I'll just stop buy Gamestop and get a PSN gift card and buy it from the PSN store. I never buy digital downloads but I'm desperate on this one.

From what the Fire Pro Twitter account says, it appears it will be a physical release after the PC version is first tested.

I would be very surprised if this game got a physical copy. From what the director said, it's a miracle this game even got the greenlight to be made, and the only reason it did is because SpikeChunsoft has had success with their Danganronpa series. There are some that think because some of SC's smaller titles got physical copies, so will Fire Pro, but I think Fire Pro is an exception. It's a niche of a niche game that will hopefully be fully welcomed by the Steam community and be bigger than it ever has before.

I first played the last game (Fire Pro Returns) back in 2007 when it was released in the US. I still play it today. It's aged wonderfully, because it was designed in a way that doesn't make it seem as outdated as the 3D wrestling games are.
