During today's Electronic Arts Q3 2017 earnings conference call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the next NBA Live, which was originally scheduled to release early this year, has been pushed to the fall of 2017.

According to Andrew, EA wanted double down on the game and give it an entire NBA season to sell, rather than release it early this year as planned.

Not til it came down the pipeline. Ultimately, I think it is a good decision. Not because the game wasn't fun and a good game. I think they were truly close Gameplay wise to figuring it out. But without a complete experience, I think it would have suffered again.

On one hand, I wish their original plan would have held true, because I'm interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on the direction of the game and more importantly, the gameplay. But on the other hand, if it's not a full fledged NBA Sim, with all of the features that we've come to expect, then I think it's the right move.

I just hope that they take the suggestions and criticisms to heart and really implement the things that I, and a few others, really hammered them on.

I can say this, I was VERY vocal and adamant that they implement the things that I know OUR community wants.

I heard a rumor that there are Womens All Star teams in NBA Live 18, that's 1 good news hopefully we get a full-fledged out WNBA expierence to go along with that since it's delayed.

Will, this nonsense has been going on since I was QA on Live man. Its doesn't matter which devs you have in place, they're just playing musical chairs with the same dang issues/complaints. I'm talking all the way back to when Live was in Burnaby BC. I used to live in North Van. Had buddies working there, invited me there & used to tell me stuff all the time, knowing that I was going into game ani/design (Capilano/DigiP).
It doesn't matter the (our)input, they're going to do it their way, and sprinkle in buzzwords for renamed tech from the past, call it new, etc.. You've seen my letter to EA, and now reading that even you had to be adamant in 2016 about things the community wants is a slap in the face. What was the purpose of these yearly surveys and questionnaires if you even have to do that in the present? Its like they don't get it.
Wouldn't surprise me that we'll just be waiting sometime years from now for Sean Obrien Jr's apology letter, and Andrew Wilson II talking about EA's 2nd generation of higher up saying that 2020 version of Live will be the fully fledged version that Live 17/18 was supposed to be. How in the world do you have a delay to a delay? That's why I don't buy they're products new. Get them used, if that. Live's been a 2nd rate NBA game to me I can only stomach the demos. Outside of Live 10 which was decent, it took a 2k guy to get them somewhat on track, but they go right back to derailing themselves...

They need new GC's too. They need to find people who will sit down and point the issues out like what you, myself and a few hardcore others have done. Don't get these yes men. When you read their blogs and vlogs, they seem bewildered to the reactions of gamers. That right there tells you they don't get it, and the GC's(SLA's) aren't helping. Just a mess of a franchise man, I haven't seen anything like this in all my years of gaming.

Side track curiosity.

"People" seem to always rag on Live's "robotic animation." Have they considered bringing in "animation specialists" (i.e. Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, recent 3D animation student graduates, etc.) to oversee their works in progress or actually lead the animation process. Will they bring in outsiders to critique their current works in progress. The same individuals staring at the same screen over and over on a daily might not see "the heart of the problem." Even a simple tweak could completely inject life into the project.

I get it. I still have your letter and info. It's funny, I just read it the other day. I know you and I are on the same page. I've been more vocal than ever this year and there was no doubt in my mind that at least my voice was heard.

I do agree also on needing some fresh eyes, and not yes men. That's the only way we're going to advance this title, is through open, honest and constructive feedback and criticism.

The new things that were in the game were far from buzz words, or rebranded ideas. Those are the things that I was truly excited about. I'm sure there would have been some marketing buzzwords thrown at them, but I'll assure you that it wasn't rehashed features or renamed to bring excitement.

I've talked to several GC since this was announced and we're all pretty much on the same page. I wish you all could play with the new things in place, that way we could have an open discussion about it.

I'm hopeful that they'll land on solid footing with the extra time, and that the feedback was listened to. If not, I'll gracefully bow out .

So the suits got involved again?

...and if that is the case you want me to believe again that they'll make it great?

You also want me to believe canceling and skipping yet another iteration like they did in live 12 and 13 is magically going to be great?

Wait let me guess, they're still listening to our feedback?

For quite a long time, I've seen that the people behind Live have only wanted their fans to play exactly how they wanted them to play. Their interpretation of how basketball looks in motion looks so dated and lackluster. You can't edit rosters at will, which leaves you stuck in times like these playing a subpar game with inaccurate rosters. There's so much wrong with their situation but it's not new. I just feel sorry for the die-hard fans who get hype for a release then get let down. Oh well.

This is what I expected. Bringing out a hoop game mid season never sounded like a good idea to me. And they obviously felt the game wasn't ready.

If they clean up the animations and realize we aren't in the PS2 era the game should be alright. Including get rid of the no look hook shots and post shots should help alot. Improve the signature shots and give us more signature animations the game would be in good hands. Also improve the defense is the key to building a solid foundation.

Their last ditch hope. I hope it pays off

Not a surprise.....

I knew something was up when we went from full game to possible demo being released in that other thread

At this point I would be really cautious of anything EA does with basketball based on prior history of late.

I'm not going to get excited over any game until it's actually released and playing without so many flaws

I will go back into NBA Live Hibernation again since we are starting this entire new development plan all over again

Wash rinse and repeat

Releasing 2/3 of the way through the season never made sense anyways. Deep down I knew they would need a 2yr dev cycle to make make real attempts at closing the gap to 2k. Hope they update the live 16 rosters atleast.

I asked one of the developers on how Live 18 will go, development wise. I'm jut happy to hear they're not scrapping the whole thing. If we hear about that later in the year then I'll just stick with their mobile game

I enjoyed the last game for what it was but I think this will be the last. They would have to do something special to get people to spend money on them.

Hopefully this time they start with a strong title. The cycle of releasing a bad product and then taking a couple of years to bring it to the standards of 5 years ago - has to stop.

Not surprised.

I would be optimistic about the idea of 'taking time to get things right' but this is the 3rd time we've heard that in 6 years with not a lot results coming from it...so I'm a bit numb on that..

I trust in Will though, I'm personally deciding to take his post as 'They were going to release the game without roster editing again and decided that it was a bad idea'....haha

We will see what they cook up...it will come when it comes I guess...

I said this from the jump ...

The game should release in the fall . I never understood the purpose of a spring release
