Do any of you guys remember the Nba Courtside 02 signature tracks? If you don't, look up " one love "," courtside " and " ko-beats. -timeless, nostalgic music with rhythm but at the same time fit the theme of basketball. 2k and madden are in the same boat in that both have gone mostly mainstream because of the much higher exposure to their games.

Back in the day, 2k had the Hieroglyphics crew, Abstract Rude, Aceyalone, Chali 2na, Jean Grae, Dilated Peoples, Mr. Lif, People Under the Stairs, RJD2, Del the Funkee Homosapien and Madlib. Hell even Redman was in the soundtrack in I believe 2k6 or 2k7. All classic underground hip-hop that set the tone for the game. The nfl 2k5 soundtrack was also brilliant. Back then 2k tried to get these dope underground guys more exposure, now they're mostly about appealing to the bigger audience- the casual crowd, in the soundtrack department.

People don't like the soundtrack because they've heard the 2k soundtracks from yesteryear ( going back to pre-2k12)and they realize A LOT of these songs don't " fit the bill " of basketball, not saying they're bad songs, but some just don't belong in a basketball game, or any sports video game period. But that's just my take on it. Ignorance is bliss, fella.

People have every right to compain about something that they're PAYING for, at least in most scenarios. I CHALLENGE you and the others to go LOOK at the Nba 2k soundtracks from 2k5-2k11 and then go back and glance at 2k17s and tell me something ain't right...I'll admit what this soundtrack has on the ones from the mid-2000s is diversity. 2k9 really was the first to bring a diverse feel to the game. 2k10 I thought did it best in that regard.

More MGMT I'd obviously always welcomed, but still a solid soundtrack.

Most likely, and hopefully, 2K Sports Classic tracks. I loved hearing those older 2K Sports songs in 2K16.

Sadly, 2K can't use it for legal reasons, but does this sound like hip-hop to you?

I don't care what genres are in the game. Is it good music?
lol dude what does this have to do with anything?
basketball and hip-hop go hand in hand
being that the league is predominantly african american, and a large percentage of african americans listen to mostly hip hop ... connect the dots
dude you really posted a theme song 😂😂😂

He means that ALL forms of good music can be in a basketball game. And no genre of music, imo, can define a sport.

I don't think guys like Bill Russel or Elgin Baylor or Jerry West were dancing to rap beats in their prime. It just so happened that the millennials found a likeness for rap, & with the help of the internet/social media boom of the '90s & 2000's, most nba players and fans picked up on the fad as well.

Same thing with NHL, which is mostly hard rock & metal. Why not have more rap in their video games?

The answer is simple for both games: It's a money issue! Gotta appease to the masses, and any form of music other than rap for b-ball is in the minority, & I'm sure rap is in the minority for the Fifa games too.

I think all great music should have it's place in ALL sports, so there's nothing wrong with someone being upset that there's only 1 dominant genre in a game.

The hip hop culture and basketball have become synonymous with each other. Thanks in large part to Allen Iverson but also due to both being very popular with young black males and minorities in general. The two most common forms of "success" that young black men see black men achieving is in sport or hip hop (which is a whole other political issue I'm not going to get into but let's just say the NBA could do with a having a few more owners and front office personnel who aren't rich and white)

Plenty of rappers have wanted to be ballers (celeb ASG proves that) and they often have metaphors and lines about basketball in their records.

Plenty of ballers have wanted to be rappers and even went as far as releasing albums.

The two are completely intertwined now. Anyone who is oblivious to that isn't following the culture.

It makes sense that a basketball video game would have a soundtrack that caters mostly to hip hop heads as there is a massive amount of crossover between the two. It wouldn't hurt to have other songs on there but the people who this is aimed at are the same people who buy it to get the USA national team, the casual fan. The ones who 2k is targeting because they outnumber the hardcore fan 1000 to 1. At the very least.

They know their market. They aren't stupid. They know fine well that this is what sells. And this is the kind of thing the casual fans care about where for the rest of us it's just a throwaway topic, a passing thought. Nothing of note.

For me it's not a case of "should it be hip hop" it absolutely should, like it or not basketball is now integrated within the hip hop culture. The real question for me is "could they find better examples of rap?" But honestly we all know it's about what sells not what's best.

But hey, that's just my perspective.

Wow, some awful awful tracks on there. 3 Drake songs too many. Pity we can't use a custom soundtrack and just use the one from NBA Street Vol. 2.

Get that Drake up outta here. Man this soundtrack is looking kind of weak.

He's gonna drop a surprise album exclusively through NBA 2K17, and you can only get it if you pre-order the Gold Legend Edition. Watch.
