NHL 17 News Post

To Our Readers,

It has come to our attention that the content of this article, which were meant to display EA's responses to community questions on their forums were altered and paraphrased by the author of this piece in a manner which did not accurately reflect what was actually said.

Obviously this is a huge problem and we have removed the piece from the site. The author in question was a long time author on OS and had produced some exemplary pieces of content over the years. We have taken appropriate actions with the author as of this afternoon.

We apologize for the inaccuracies of the article to you our readers and to the folks developing NHL 17 at EA Sports. Operation Sports has a long track record of accurate reporting and reliable analysis, and that has begun with a tight editorial process which was too lax with the article in question. We will always strive to be better and this is one instance where we certainly will try our best to ensure complete accuracy in the future. This is not representative of our body of work thus far and we will ensure that this is reflective of our future.

We are excited about the 2016 Sports Gaming Release Calendar and can't wait to begin to share a new year of sports games with you all!

Sincerely,

OS Editorial Team

Excuses. Excuses. Excuses. It requires more code to do a full line celebration, but it doesn't require more code to add the many individual (some silly) celebrations. The full line get together is something done every goal. How many people are going to dab next season? No one dabs anymore.

I thought the NBC presentation and cumulative goals showing in the broadcast package was hysterical. That's just programming simple math. The look of the presentation package shouldn't have an impact on that.

so in all of these pictures they post on twitter about the beta, they're showing 3 man celebrations.

Is this in at least? Or is that from the Be a Pro mode and a cut scene?

I had to read that piece 3 times. I kept thinking I must be missing something. But nope!!! All EA's games are weak on Stat Tracking Displays during a game. That's a given. But to use the NBC upgrade as the excuse here. Come on!

Why can't we edit ratings DURING the season like in MLB the Show? That way we can update ratings without having to start a whole new season..they never seem to answer this question when submitted....

its because they will only answer the questions they want to answer. that is why you tend to always see the same questions being answered over and over and over again. the question them selves might be different in the wording but the answer will most likely be the same just different wording, which is why a lot of these community questions are just stupid and pointless.

Well, it's nice that goal tracking will be back to the presentation within franchise.

How is the winter classic still not in this game? NHL 2K10 had wrigley field in it.

A little dissapointed about the answer for 5 man celebrations but I am at least glad that they answered the question

They seem like the laziest group of developers of any of the major spots titles. Correct me if I'm wrong but even Madden has group TD celebrations now. As does MLB to a lesser extent with walk off wins.

They didn't answer my question about their Franchise mode with Create-A-Team...

If you can Replace a team with one you Create in NHL 17 right away, like MyLeague of NBA (And customize things like that game). Or if you have to play as the team you don't like that you want gone for a couple of years, until it lets you move them.

I feel a lot of omissions are do to lack of team size. So many things that are easy additions yet are left out. Madden and Fifa would never have this problem. Only one pause per game is fantastic.. Yet now I have no ability to call timeout if I have already used pause. Or ability to save Ranked online VS line ups. Madden allows you to do it and they have roster updates every week apposed to NHLs 4 a years (or so it seems). I can understand 5 man celebrations to a larger extent as its sooo much easier just adding individual celebrations but those small things that are missing probably sting even more to me.

There isn't a EA Sports game that allows editing in Franshise Mode, that's sad. Only NCAA Football u could editing attribute in Career Mode. I don't think I will buy NHL this year. To bad 2k or sony don't make a Hockey Game.

Here is a crazy idea remove all the mascot related cut scenes and you should free up enough memory/code (whatever) to add more needed/requested items.

As well please give walking papers to the person(s) who thought adding the mascots was giving the players what they wanted...

You have to write individual pieces of code for each celebration. I don't know how many new ones there are, but there are dozens. Could have easily cut down on them by half and used the other slots for code dedicated toward the line celebration. This code can be ported over year after year like they do for other animations.

The cumulative goal total that was "broken" for the past two years was on the stats bar that pops down under the score ticker after a goal was scored, not on the NBC presentation part. The NBC part did not show how many goals the players scored during the game or season.

This bar was there for years before the NBC presentation package was even implemented so I don't know what the devs are talking about. But yeah, like a previous poster said, the problem was a simple coding error that could have been fixed in a patch. There was no need to overhaul the whole presentation package lol.

Either way, I'm glad they finally fixed it.

A new blog went up today that specifically mentions you can still use your timeout - https://www.easports.com/nhl/news/20...y-series-eashl

It's not about freeing up code or memory. Adding static presentation elements like mascots isn't near as complex as something dynamic like real time, multi-player celebrations.

It looks like they're adding a lot of things people asked for. Not everything of course. That's going to take time, but so far things are looking good.

I like the detailed defensive skill stick answer. The team is acting more transparent in their explanations. Thanks EA NHL.
