Madden NFL 17 News Post

EA announced today in a new post on the Madden NFL blog that they have implemented several popular community requests into franchise mode. Let's take a look at them:

  • Around The League Score Ticker: Be immersed in Sunday football, with the new Around The League Score Ticker. While playing your game, you will see score updates occur from games around the league. For example, if you’re playing a 1pm Sunday game, you will see score updates and stat lines for all the other 1pm games.
  • Full Player Editing: As the commissioner in your league, you now have the ability to customize almost everything about all the players. You will be able to adjust appearance, ratings, traits, and contract information for the entire league, letting you make tweaks as you see fit to alter players.
  • Practice Squad: Each team now has a 10-man Practice Squad that they can control week-to-week. It all starts in week 4 of the preseason. Instead of cutting players, you can now easily move eligible players to the Practice Squad where they will develop as you train the various position groups during weekly training.
  • Dynamic Development Trait: Each player’s development trait is the biggest defining factor in how he develops. Players with a Superstar trait will stay in the league longer and develop into the top tier talent, while players with the Slow trait will not make it in the league long.
  • Regression Feedback: As a coach or owner, you need to have a pulse on your team’s development and you need to know exactly when your team regresses and now you will in Madden NFL 17.
  • Player Card Improvements: The Player Card has been bolstered with three key improvements. The first is a way to quickly see all the attributes for a specific player and how they rank in the league based on overall rating. The second is a view so you can see the progression history for the player. This lets you see where all the XP came from and when ratings have been impacted whether through progression or regression. Last but not least, the player card is now accessible from more areas so you will always be just a step or two from seeing the information you want.

What do you think of these add-ons? Time for rejoicing for several right?

I fully agree; the OS community adds so much to Madden gameplay through slider sets its really unbelievable.

I didn't mean to be a total downer. I actually agree the game play is the best yet, but the problems I mentioned were still not reparable by any slider set IMHO. Minimized .. Yes. Fixed to the point I am able to still be immersed in M16 now? No. And believe me when I say if they fix the glaring game play and CFM issues I could play Madden and pretty much only madden all year and be fine without other games...

I hear what you are saying, just two different opinions on the sliders. The sliders I used immersed enough to still be playing, I usually give up SB or before.

I'm just saying the slider set I used was better than minimizing, at least for me, except the deep ball over the middle and drag routes. I hear that is cleared up this year, we'll see, if it is, I'll be in game play nirvana.

Anyone's mileage can vary.

Yeah. My hope is we can edit dev traits though right? So if Newton gets injured for the year and they drop his dev trait (I hope that wouldn't do that) we could bump it back up

John White told me that Dev trait is editable.

@PHTYT yes - dev trait is part of full player editing

Me and I'm sure several others.

Just because you wouldn't, it does not discount those who would.

While I'm sure for some this is a cool feature, I don't see the point of having the editable rosters yet not allowing draft classes to be changed. I'm assuming it's the O'bannon issue, but I dont think us doing all of it from scratch would put them in any legal grey area.

Madden was just nominated for best in show at E3. That's promising.

I think you're spot on that it could be tied to O'Bannon. One would think that they would alleviate any likeness issues by simply allowing customization - nonetheless the last thing EA may want are a bunch of videos surfacing that showcase guys like Watson and Fournette represented in Madden. That just doesn't fit the ethos of what they're trying to do.

I don't think that's the reason. It's all about money. If the NCAA game ever gets launched back up, a large portion buy it because they can import draft classes to Madden.

Has anyone seen if they brought back the teams a guy played for in the stats screen?

I'm surprised they didn't fix this. Seems like it would be very simple to randomize this.

Seriously? How is that still an issue?

It wasn't in Madden 08.

It's a few lines of code to randomize teams for crying out loud.

Looking ahead...How do you guys plan on actually editing the players to create the 2017 rookies post-draft? Just making a big board of position ratings (i.e. Fournette is the highest-rated RB, McCaffrey is the 2nd highest-rated RB, etc) and then editing the first RB taken in the draft and making him the first on your "board"?

I guess it's better than nothing, but I wish this could be done before the draft

Yeah, probably write it on paper. I'll probably only do like 10-12 actual prospects for each position and the rest can be what the game gives me. Definitely all of the bigger names though.

I certainly hope so!

Failing that:

I wish they would simply assign ALTs / Throwbacks / etc. to the CPU team in the "National Broadcast" / MNF / SNF games...

# 217 bfett81 @ 06/16/16 12:49 PM
I'd imagine people will earmark a few highly ranked players before the draft to be re-rated after the draft. This way it will ensure competitive balance with the CPU, who will still draft those players high.

I think I'll actually probably end up re-rating the first player in every position group that's a first rounder, so there are some ****ing freaks that can be somewhat evenly distributed around the league.

Another thing you could do...if, for instance, the top RB speed is still 91 this year...earmark all the "speed" backs and stagger their speed ratings.

I saw in another thread that we CANNOT choose opponent unis inside CFM

This is correct, Price confirmed that we can't change opponents uniforms.

As for the preseason teams, I'm disappointed. Not scream-from-the-hills disappointed, but still. It wouldn't be so bad if one of my opponents wasn't a division rival...every year after season 1 I (as SF) get Rams, Broncos, Patriots, Chargers. In that order.

I guess I'll hope for at least a new set of 4, but I know it'll be the same set...

# 220 ehh @ 06/16/16 03:22 PM
Excited for all the improvements/additions but it really sucks that we can't change the opposition's uniforms. Playing several years in CFM and never (or rarely) getting to see our rivals' alternate unis blows. NCAA Football always had that, weird that Madden can't add it.
