Madden NFL 17 News Post

EA Sports has detailed new additions to this year's franchise mode on their website.

The first blog post EA detailed a faster way to play franchise and new gameplanning features.

Play The Moments: Experience Franchise faster than ever. Jump into game-defining plays, drives and situations that matter to you, speeding up your experience and delivering more fun. For players who want to span their career the entire 30 years but are limited in time, Play the Moment will be your new way to play.

Quote:
"How does it work?

Before heading down to the field, choose between Play the Moments, Offense Only, Defense Only, or the Full Game. When you choose Play the Moments, the game will be simulated until it detects a key moment and then prompts you to jump right into the action. If you don’t want to play that particular moment, you can easily skip it. Choosing Offense Only or Defense Only before loading into the game allows you to easily play just one side of the ball.

You’ll be able to switch in and out of all the modes easily as you play your game. For example, you can start by playing the Full Game and then switch to Play the Moments at half-time once you have a sizable lead. It’s up to you on how you use it."
There will be different times you are called to 'play a moment'.

EA says that sometimes you will be prompted to play a full drive at the beginning of a game in order to get a lead early. In the last two minutes of a half you may be called upon to drive down the field and manage the clock and perhaps on defense you'll be called in on 3rd downs to get the ball back for your team. Really any 'big' moment of a game you can be called in on.

There will be a new sim speed feature which allows you to slow the game down and watch it unfold in real time during super-sim and during moments. This is an oft requested feature that is now being fulfilled.

Another big addition is that super-sim will now take into account quarter speed in order to try to deliver a game as close as possible to the 120 play-per-game NFL average as well.

Check out all of the new additions to 'Play the Moment' and Super-Sim on EA's site!

(1) - Nope. Injuries are still broken off-ball. With a heavy emphasis on incorporating sim into CFM, it looks like that can help remedy this. Nonetheless, the fact that linemen and off-ball players can't get hurt is a bit ridiculous. This is one that was in 13 years ago. It needs to be fixed pronto.

(2) - Kind of. You can only edit them once they're drafted, which means you'll still be scouting Patrick Patrick. Hopefully, they'll build toward an environment where we can share these like in other games. I get the fact that maybe EA is scared of litigation and doesn't want the community churning out draft classes in the wake of O'Bannon and I can appreciate that. Nonetheless there wouldn't be anything illegal about us doing it.

(3) - Yes!!

(4) - Yes!!

(5) - Yes, according to Price.

(6) - No.

(7) - ???

(8) - According to Price, we can more effectively setup 32-team control. No word on the streamlining of doing tasks. A big NO on switching sides in CFM.

(9) - No. And I think this is a bigger deal to me than most. My team is the Packers and teams like us and the Ravens love to use the compensatory system to stack draft picks.

(10) - No.

So, at least for me, we got 4 points out of 10 with 6 of my items addressed at least in some capacity. I'll take it. But there is still a lot of work to do. Full player editing will allow us to remedy a lot of ills.

Plus, I like the general direction they're taking CFM. I endorse the XP system as I think it's a game apparatus that simulates real life progression as best we can and gives users control and strategy to consider.

Since I found out I'm not alone in loving to switch teams during CFM, I've decided that will be my big push for 18. That will be what I advocate for.
Damn. No on side switching? Why the hell is that so difficult to implement?

I should also note that formation subs and defensive matchups are priorities one and two for next year. Those have to be at the forefront of what we go after. I just omitted them from this list because we already confirmed they were not in.

Defensive matchup - yes

Formation subs - no, not good enough - gotta be full custom sub package system

Hopefully #6 makes it into Madden 18

Clint left the possibility of formation subs for a patch by noting they won't be in at launch.

I'm sure there's a lot of small things to realize/show. Practice squad means they had to mess with roster limits, how are salaries managed, etc for example. Probably a ton of UI work and information radiation that's nice in practice but not so amazing that you add them to the blogs.

Full Player editing does nothing for me personally... but cool to see it back in.

I liked what I saw regarding "Big Decisions" and am thrilled Practice Squad finally got added. Really the biggest thing I wanna see is more stuff like in-game ticker and practice squad stuff being added because it sets a foundation that can be built off upon for the future. Not flashy gimmicks that'll then be removed. I've seen a few people saying they were "under-whelmed" but just a few of those additions alone I think are fantastic.

The ticker has me worried for people who play 32 team franchise. The reason a ticker wasnt going to work in last years game was because you couldnt sim games until u advanced the week. From the video, it looks like its the same system.

What I want is what I have in the Show or NBA2k, where I can sim the games I dont want to play. In the Show, after I sim the games...the results show up in the ticker. I'm worried that the ticker will only be beneficial for players who only control one team.

Simming the game through supersim may be a workaround though.

On NCAA 14, the game pre-determined the scores/outcomes during the load from 1 week to the next. You could still play any and all of those games, even though the sim engine had simmed a result to feed the ticker for presentation purposes. Given that EA has done this before, I'm not too worried.

So for those who just control one team will the final result we see in the ticker actually be the result of those games when we advance to the next week or will they be completely different?

It'll be the same, unless you go in and play the game you saw on the ticker, then it'll be whatever the result of the game you played was.

Woo hoo on full editing! If anyone knows details on importing/exporting I would love to hear, as in can I import my 16 rosters to 17, or do we now have fully editable and shareable rosters. I saw the part about rookie editing so then can we share our franchises?

You can only edit the rookies post-draft.

I feel like I'm disappointed with this due to the fact that I love the GM side of Madden and there really hasn't been much added to that.

Gameplay wise I have a feeling it'll be the best Madden yet and the animations look much smoother but I can't help but feel disappointed at the lack of things such as compensatory picks, actual contracts and the lack of change to scouting and the draft (probably the thing I wanted fixed the most).

Player editing was #1 on my wishlist for a little while now, so I'm definitely happy with that finally being reintroduced. For the rest, I need to see implementation before getting too excited, but I'm happy with the additions for the most part.

For the supposed remaining info, I hope it centers on immersion via coaching and team management in some capacity, especially with the tweak to the development trait and the addition of practice squads.

Thanks. I'm hoping this is the case.

Ill just be honest about this.Even for an online league, im willing to bet ,most will like the ticker for about a month, and then they will pretty much ignore it about like the cutscene stuff. It will be cool but only for a short time. Most people are trying to read defenses presnap, seeing what opponent just ran and has been running that game and trying to have a chess match to out play their opponent in online league. I just dont see me spending much time paying attention to something that basically will take my focus off my opponent for a short period in between plays. To me ,its kind of like the opponent throwing out a cheerleader to wave at me while im trying to pick my teams audible as Qb...

Wow, you're really focused in! I usually have my second TV on watching a real game when I'm playing. I'm glad that they ticker is finally there though. It's been a long time community request since forever and adds a lot of immersion to franchise rather than just looking at stats/scores between games.

Also, for people like you there they added ticker setting to show everything, just scores, goal updates, or nothing... so there you go, you have the option to take all of those distractions away and really focus on those presnap adjustments.

I also think it might be something you don't realize how impactful it is until it's there.

For example you're in your online league either playing a game or doing something in team management and you just catch a glimpse of some huge stat line, score, injury report, signing, etc, scrolling across the screen, now you're like "wtf" and waiting for it to come around again or checking for more details on it within your league or maybe you just shake your head and continue with what you were doing but point is that's something that potentially causes you take notice of what's going on in your league, in a subtle way. Also I love the fact it's customized, the more options we get to create the type of virtual football realm we want, the better.
Yeah it can be cool, just for me, i feel time could be better spent on actual needs for CFM rather than just tiny small additions , when there are numerous big needs still

Not true.

I've been enjoying the ticker in the Show for the past 3 years. People have different interests so just because you may not be interested in it...doesnt mean that others wont long term.

Shoot, half of the things you complain about dont concern me at all but I recognize that they may be important to you and others.
