Madden NFL 17 News Post

EA Sports has detailed new additions to this year's franchise mode on their website.

The first blog post EA detailed a faster way to play franchise and new gameplanning features.

Play The Moments: Experience Franchise faster than ever. Jump into game-defining plays, drives and situations that matter to you, speeding up your experience and delivering more fun. For players who want to span their career the entire 30 years but are limited in time, Play the Moment will be your new way to play.

Quote:
"How does it work?

Before heading down to the field, choose between Play the Moments, Offense Only, Defense Only, or the Full Game. When you choose Play the Moments, the game will be simulated until it detects a key moment and then prompts you to jump right into the action. If you don’t want to play that particular moment, you can easily skip it. Choosing Offense Only or Defense Only before loading into the game allows you to easily play just one side of the ball.

You’ll be able to switch in and out of all the modes easily as you play your game. For example, you can start by playing the Full Game and then switch to Play the Moments at half-time once you have a sizable lead. It’s up to you on how you use it."
There will be different times you are called to 'play a moment'.

EA says that sometimes you will be prompted to play a full drive at the beginning of a game in order to get a lead early. In the last two minutes of a half you may be called upon to drive down the field and manage the clock and perhaps on defense you'll be called in on 3rd downs to get the ball back for your team. Really any 'big' moment of a game you can be called in on.

There will be a new sim speed feature which allows you to slow the game down and watch it unfold in real time during super-sim and during moments. This is an oft requested feature that is now being fulfilled.

Another big addition is that super-sim will now take into account quarter speed in order to try to deliver a game as close as possible to the 120 play-per-game NFL average as well.

Check out all of the new additions to 'Play the Moment' and Super-Sim on EA's site!

Editing players that has been in the game forever before the last couple years? Not very exciting.

Also speaking specifically for online leagues. Editing player ratings would not occur there anyway. Good for offline sure.

Does the new game allow you to sim other games individually now?

I'll try to get specifics from the show floor

He didnt lie about that though:

New sim engine.
Player editing.
Practice Squad
New Injury system.
Gameplanning

Given what EA's done in the past this is a big leap. It will be even bigger if they give us formation subs through a patch like they hinted at.

It's exciting it's making a return instead of not listening to the customers.

To each their own, isn't it?

In the blog it mentions if you have a 1pm game, you will be seeing score updates from other 1 pm games. If you play on MNF you will see final scores from all the other games.

It could have an effect for online leagues. I'm sure there's some commish's that would have liked to fixed stuff like the speed regression issues for WR's that we're seen in the past rather than a) just dealing with it or b) waiting on a patch.

Price, I have some questions.

(1) - Does this upgraded injury system include off-ball injuries when we actually play the games? Ex: Offensive linemen being hurt.

(2) - Are there any miscellaneous tidbits about CFM that the big fans would love to know about that didn't make the blog?

From gameinformer:

170-plus heads have been scanned from actors with a range of diversity for use with created characters, coaches, and drafted players.

Uh oh. Considering there are 224 players picked in the draft, plus undrafted free agents, that means we'll be seeing duplicate portraits in each draft class. Within a few years in your franchise, you are going to see players on the same team with the same portrait picture. I was really hoping they'd abandon the "real picture" portraits, but I guess they had other plans.

There has to be. No mention of cpu v cpu, easier 32-team control, turning the watch-list into a draft board, etc.

I liked what I read in the blogs. Having a practice squad, in game ticker that updates throughout the game, big decision on whether or not to play your guy if he's hurt, and the ability to edit any player we want now instead of having to create a coach for that team.

Hopefully they talk about injuries since it looks like that has been tweaked.

Price if you could see if you could get a answer on these that would be great. I liked that you can set a goal for the season but why can you do it if you just play as a coach? I would think if you play as an Owner you would be able to set a season goal for your coach. Also will the AI go after some of your practice squad guys or is that feature really only for online leagues?

It would be awesome if they let us pick the weather for the games. Maybe a late addition?

I'm very excited with what they've given us. I just am eager to learn about all the new features.

Did someone say full player editing, live in-game ticker, and practice squads?????????????

I'm going to go pass out now. Be back soon.

Injuries are also my biggest concern. Need a helluva lot more info about it because as of right now it sounds like the same injury system except now I can bring a player back a couple of weeks earlier.

A step in the right direction but without a better team relocation/create a team system it isn't up to par with the competition. Some of the biggest NFL news this off season and it appears untouched ingame.

Anything on a draft board? Exhibition games? Ability to roll back changes like roster dumps?

The forward progress of Madden seems to continue. Good time for gamers who play Madden.

Really excited the in game ticker is in, but I'm disappointed there was barely any mention of the draft. At least we can make authentic draft classes but I'm assuming you can't download someone's draft class and everyone has to edit all the players on their own, which will likely be quite tedious. Plus the draft presentation needs quite a bit of work, and it seems like it didn't get much attention. I'll still buy Madden 17 but franchise still needs more addressing. At least everything they added this year was a step in the right direction.
