I tried clicking mine, but nothing happened... I assume it's because I haven't played yet. I'll be online tonight though, so I'm looking forward to getting my tail kicked by you guys who have a days jump on me.
For some reason whenever that situation happens, holding L1/LB and throwing a punch will make your fighter go into finishing the fight and throwing strikes on the ground. It usually takes three punches and then the ref calls the fight to a halt.
I think my only gripe with the game so far is the ground game. It just seems sooo difficult and as someone else mentioned, it doesn't really allow for you to just pick up and play. Right now, I definitely need the HUD assist because I would have no idea what to do otherwise. But in the time it takes for me to look at the HUD and choose my move, my opponent has already transitioned or begun his transition.
With all that being said, I will probably enjoy it more once I fully get the hang of it but i'm sucking horribly right now and always just hope for a stand up affair
The problem is you are likely facing people who dont need the HUD and those people should dominate you. The HUD isnt for people to be able to rely on long term or for any success. Its for people to learn the moves and make the ground game a little more understandable.
People need to spend more time in practice mode. That will give you plenty of time to learn the ground game and improve.

I'm glad I keep reading stuff like this. I've been using Stephen Thompson and Gunner Nelson and have just been memorizing the HUD. I'm pretty much able to get to my feet at will. My analog is already moved to where it's supposed to be. Ground and pound is the only way I haven't lost a match and no one has dominated on the ground. I hope people are this bad for a while.

Shiz,
Are you on ps4? Let me show you how lay and pray works in this game. LOL.

That is definitely true. I was griping about it yesterday, they truth is, I may look at it for a split second once every 3 fights. The ground game is growing on me, but I hate how few punches are usually thrown here.

Thats because people didnt read GPD's breakdown and dont realize that landed punches on the ground give you a grappling advantage. You should be mixing in punches and knees while trying to transition.
spamming and constant pressure is still the priority the pace is unreal.
I watched his stream last night. His body spam is hilarious. In regards to the ground game. I don't have the Beta but I've read GPD breakdown 4 times already. Essentially if you secure a takedown quick knees to the body or quick little punches to the body will now get you a grappling advantage. I think alot of ppl are diving into the ground with no practice or idea of how to gain an advantage.

Tweedy's stream isnt a great example of what people will see. 1) He is one of the best players at the game. 2)He doesnt seem to play with a wide range of fighters and those tactics are only good with certain fighters. For example, constant pressure worked against me when someone used Alves but the same guy tried that with Ryan LaFlare and I starched him. 3) This is just my opinion but his goal is to win at all costs so some of his tactics may be questionable but its not really spamming if you can do things to stop the spam....the issue is most people arent good enough to avoid it right now.
The ground game is nice, I think with practice it could be pretty fun. Right now, having to look at the grapple assist, it doesn't allow me to react quickly enough to block transitions consistently. The striking seems to have more power (able to KO with straight punches, etc.), and the physics based KOs are awesome looking, although sometimes when you're throwing strikes at each other the fighters look like rubber, flopping around a bit too much. Blocking using both high / low is pretty tough, if you're trying to gauge your opponent and react accordingly, rather than just holding one of the buttons.
Also, the weird thing where my fighter will switch stances coming out of takedown defense or standing up is still there...
Overall, the beta is already a huge improvement over the first game.

Exactly. They are only looking for subs and relying on the HUD too much.
I like being able to cancel transitions on the ground. I was able to wear out a guys stamina doing that and tapped him out when all his energy was gone.
Feints still feel awkward to me when hitting the buttons. I'm sure I'll get used to throwing them the more that I play.
