NCAA Football 14 News Post

EA Sports posted an initially cryptic video on the NCAA Football Facebook Page today which appeared to 'show signs of life' with a heartbeat monitor.

However, instead of a cryptic announcement of an impending announcement of the game coming back, it appears the tweet was actually meant to be to mark the National Title Game tonight. Honestly, if that's the case its the worst way ever to do it -- as with nothing seemingly in development you basically are posting a video that'd make most everyone think you meant something about a 'dead' game series.

From what we know, and from what others have been told via EA, there either isn't an NCAA Football game in development right now and/or there is one under development that EA outright denies at this point and has locked up as an insanely well kept secret.

It doesn't help either that the caption of the video is "Our heart still beats for the big game... ‪#‎NationalChampionship‬" so it would seem to be about tonight's game vs. an announcement of a new NCAA game. However this is the first new post in two years on the Facebook page, so why now of all times?

With the NCAA meeting happening this week, along with the National Title game, the timing and content of the video was certainly odd and not well thought out if its not to pre-announce something -- but who knows. Maybe this is EA's way of saying something is coming eventually and we'll all be screaming for joy when that happens. It's entirely plausible this is a tease for an ad in tonight's game announcing a comeback -- it's also entirely plausible this is just a bad PR stunt by a company that probably should be above that sort of thing.

UPDATE: The official Twitter page has also posted the following updates...

We have no new plans or announcements to make regarding the EA SPORTS NCAA Football series.

Today’s #NationalChampionship game reminds us more than ever that the hearts in our community still beat for college football.

Why does ea give two craps about the game tonight? Must be something in the works? There is no ncaa anymore it might be called "not professional football"

People are being way too naive here.

Guess what? That post did not have a caption originally. They edited it after it blew up. It was just the video. EA releasing 3 "statements" frantically, essentially confirms that something is coming.

Why would an account that has been silent for nearly two years post about a game tonight that's not even the first playoff championship game?

Newsflash: million dollar companies lie all the time. This is a case of damage control.

It may not be next year, but a new game is coming. I wouldn't be surprised if this was to draw extra eyes to the game tonight in case they air some kind of ad for it.
EA is not a company known for subterfuge, they have shareholders to answer to. When EA announces something, no matter how minimal, they go big and they go loud.

This is the same company that went to CES last year and announced a pricing plan while other studios were unveiling heavily anticipated titles. If/when they announce a new NCAA game, they will not be subtle about it.

I really.. Really hope they realize how pathetic that was to post that. Until we see an official release, no need to even speculate what's next.

Still so weird. Who at EA is all of a sudden deciding to man the NCAA 14 social media account after two years, an expired license (upon the date of said license expiry EA stopped updating the account), and legal drama? And then put up a video to signify the "heartbeat that still beats" in the game's community for college football or whatever?

Probably the oddest thing EA has done from a PR standpoint.

If that heartbeat appears tonight during the game it would make a lot more sense, but the denial is pretty firm.

My guess is that it was a rogue troll within the company. If the entire organization orchestrated this lame maneuver, then they deserve all the hate and criticism they get. It's beyond bush league and their backpedaling response is ridiculous.

Yeah, I think it's fishy. Not necessarily meaning they intend to release a new title or anything, but something stupid happened behind the scenes. EA does not have an NCAA product, and do not currently support any NCAA branded products, why have someone company time working the social media angle for a property they don't even support?

if anyone thinks this was an honest mistake you are dead wrong, if they lost all rights, and have a gag order etc. why even post, why not just post on the EA sports page, or the twitter page.

Something has happened, something has changed, something or someone out there has finally said, "We can do a game again." Probably tons of things to go through, but the ribbon has been cut. some BS twitter cover up saying this does not mean we have anything to announce, is pretty strait forward cover up.

Totally agree. That edited excuse was an insult to our common sense. The heart beat was a direct indication that something has changed.

My thoughts exactly.

Guys, I'm telling you this for your own good: stop.

EA has made it very clear today that they are not going to announce a release. Now, I normally wouldn't believe EA, but if there's one area where they are dependable, it's in disappointing their consumers. Nothing has significantly changed between now and 2014 (unless I missed something) in the legal status quo that forced EA to cancel the series. I don't want to go down the JMF road again, and we all saw how that ended. This time, we are going off of even less evidence.

If NCAA 17 or 18 is going to happen, great. But for now, we have a cryptic video with a caption about something other than a game to support the theory, and public comments from EA to go against the theory. I don't see any reason to get our hopes up.

# 76 jenglund @ 01/11/16 08:19 PM
At first, I was annoyed by it all, but having thought about it, I agree that this couldn't have been about the championship game.

It just doesn't make any sense!

With that said, not sure what they were doing, since they put out their comments saying it wasn't about the video game. Seems weird/dumb/annoying all around.

please people let it go. The football community is so sensitive right now and these companies think this s&^t is a joke. They just be throwing it out there to get people attention...Its nothing...Im not getting caught out there again. We all want something new besides madden and these companies know that...they just be throwing a bone and see if we fetch but i think the word got out so quick, it scared the hell out of them....But still secretly praying it is the beginning of something...I miss ncaa football so bad..I can only imagine it on next gen....

Guess we'll know soon enough. We are down to under an hour before the game starts. I'm thinking we just have to pay attention to the commercials more so than usual.

Their last FB post from that account was July 29th, 2014. This is their first post on that account in a year and 6 months. Why didn't they do this post last year when it was January 2015 about the National Title Game then?

I have to agree, something has changed and we'll all know soon enough. At best they should have just aired a commercial during the National Title Game for a new video game(July release?) and after the commercial aired, released a statement.

My thinking is that we won't see the game til next summer. I think that short clip was some corny, "the force awakens" idea.
