NBA 2K16 News Post

Hey OS, Senior Editor Dustin Toms (@DustinToms) here. Release season is upon us, and the next big NBA title is coming up.

We've been invited to spend a day with NBA 2K this Thursday, September 10. I'll be flying down to The Hangar and have hands-on experience with NBA 2K16, conversations with the developers and opportunities to capture some gameplay footage (which will debut on the Operation Sports YouTube channel). We will surely come back with even more information overload for OSers to try and process.

Now this is where you come in: what do you want to know about NBA 2K16? Post your questions here, or ask me directly on Twitter at @DustinToms. I'll take a list of the best questions with me, and have answers for you shortly after. If you ask me on Twitter, I'll reply directly to you!

Make sure you read through these links as well, as most of your questions may already be answered:

Will there be custom music this year on PS4 now that USB is available for use now? (For example for the media player.)

We are hearing a lot about updates possible on the fly and not needing a patch. So this might have been implemented or not, but I would like to know:

After starting an offline league with the official roster can we overwrite the the roster we started with with a newer official rosters later?

Great questions, guys. Keep 'em coming.

Replay mode changes

Arena sounds

Do the refs still make you wait a long time before passing the ball back to you to take it out

Will your players not take the ball out and pass it back to a guy who might even been at halfcourt so he can take it out of bounds... hate those delays on these 2 things

Does the crowd get silent and even sit down when you hit some shots still

How many CAPs and CATs can we make

Is the only way to build a new arena is to relocate?

When I think of what the Milwaukee Bucks are going through right now, being forced by the NBA to build a new arena or they take ownership of the team, it would be neat if upon taking the Bucks for a franchise, that is something you are confronted with right away?

How deep is CAP are we able to adjust things like leg length, back length, hand size? Does making a created player taller actually makes are legs longer instead of just making the whole body bigger?

Thanks very much Dustin, I tweeted you also about the sounds issue. I mentioned rim and dunk sounds, but as 23 states, we are interested in "arena sounds". I did this with 23 in mind specifically. Be really nice to know it's being heard (if it didn't make it to this years game......). With all the great work that's gone in, the sounds would be a cherry on top which would complete the immersion level for some.....

Will there be less cheese from the CPU on HOF/SIM in MyCareer and MyLeague? I know Czar said it can't be fully eliminated yet, just wondering if progress has been made. With the all the improvements made on the SIM side of the game I hope to see less overpowered play from the CPU.

Position caps in myplayer, also can we boost attributes by each or is it by categories again?

Also, has the shoe creator evolved to mimic the customization available in the team and tattoo creators that are now in the game?

All my questions will concern the college teams...

- Aside from MyCareer mode, could we have any interactions with the college teams in other game modes, like MyGM or MyLeague ?
Not necessarily playable games, but even small details like having the college seasons results in MyLeague, or to see the visuals of draft prospects with their actual college jerseys, instead of the 2K's generic jerseys...

- How many college teams will we have in the game ?

- Could we have some unlicensed college teams ?
By example some teams with generic names like "Indiana Reds" or "North Carolina Blue Skies"

- If yes, could it be possible to edit these generic teams ?

2k15 classic teams' clothes is frozen ,2k16 has worked out the BUG(problem)?

Can CPU generated players be edited in MyLeague or MyGM after being drafted? Not just ratings but how they look, accessories, etc.?
Future 2K idea, make hair and facial hair on current player editable (this will help us make the players look like they've aged over the course of a franchise mode)

1. How about rebounding logic? The appropriate players need to be able to rebound and what about the insane amount of offensive rebounds generated from poor 3 point attempts.
2. is there a comeback mechanic built in for competitive play. So many games it seems as if a user can play blatently dumb basketball but the game allows them to stay in the competition with things out of user control such as offensive rebounds, shot consistency even with good releases, teammate AI all of a sudden playing differently.
3. Is my park and rec center modes agian tied to my player single player experience. Some of us are online competitive gamers and have no interest in story modes or single player experiences outside of practicing. It was a severe chore to have to play that mode because you couldn't receive the badge upgrades any other way. Very alienating to a large portion of user base.
4. worried about the force backcourt and offensive foul cheese. It was already bad before because of some animations and now with the play tight defensive mechanic it seems it might be even worse. What precautions have been implemented to limit these situations?
5. Is there anything in my park/rec modes that will limit 7 foot athletic beasts with lights out shooting and ball handling?
6. Will 3's ever have a realistic effect on the game especially online and how can the shot meter be fixed tweaked so it can not be jobbed and exploited? they said last year it could not be but we all see the massive 3pt cheese.
7. will defensive sliding be improved and momentum shifts become more realistic. I actually was good on ball and this might not have been such a problem had any little space been death because of the severe 3pt. percentages.

Questions:

- is first step explosive?

- can bigs/slow players catch up on fast breaks?

- is spacing/positioning improved? meaning - can I create space pump faking? is recovery speed/logic improved?

- is passing actually improved? are passes substantially snappier?

- is boxing out more effective?

- sound and commentary - how are they this year? although I believe they will remain hush about it

- are crowds improved - graphics and reaction wise?

Thank you

Will Classic teams ever be able to be used in competitive play again, especially with the addition of all the new teams? Either have to seperate ranks, one for classic, or give us an non-option so players can just play out of joy of using classic teams or their favorite teams and not feel as if they have to choose a power team every game.

Presentation:

-Can we access/see bull box scores during MyPark and Pro-AM games?

I hated only being able to see my and my opponents one on one stats. I am a pass first PG so I like to see shot distribution across the team, total rebounds, points per assist, team steals, team turnovers, etc.

None of that is possible currently because we can't see a full box score during or after the game.

I have a few questions:

1- In Pro-Am can we select in which position we play or will the game decide? Would be much better if we could choose.

2- In Pro-Am, how will the CPU players (for those who dont have 5 users) be selected? Because I agree with the idea that they cant be great players who do too much. At the same time, giving us random scrubs that cant do anything would handicap certain teams. For me, it would be ideal to let us choose the player from the position we dont have and cap the available players are a decent rating (OVR 80 seems fair to me). That way, there would be no way we could rely on the CPU to make plays but they wouldnt be a non-factor in both ends.

3- Will your MyPlayer's weight affect how he looks this year? in 2k15, it didnt matter if you were 6'8'' 190lbs or 6'8'' 270lbs, your body shape was always the same. Considering how much they focused on bringing different body shapes to NBA players, it would be a shame if all the MyPlayers' body looked the same, like last year.

4- In terms of gameplay: Will the post fadeaway be a way to get easy baskets this year? I remember constantly, in MyCareer, facing guys like Dwight Howard, who would always make some even though he probably never made one in his career. Also, guys like Carlos Boozer would never miss on HOF. In MyTeam, I faced a guy who only did that same move with MJ and KD and there was no way I could stop it. It seems like 2k doesnt really account for good contests on those shots and way too many players are able to hit them constantly. Also, a lot of times I tried to defend the shot properly, and, instead of going at the shot, my defender would jump straight up. The post fadeaway needs some serious nerfing and there should be better animations to contest it.

5- Again, relating to gameplay: How will the difficulty change affect the gameplay. A few years ago somebody at 2k confirmed that increasing the difficulty boosts the CPU ratings and doesnt make the CPU smarter, which was incredibly disapointing. That means that a lot of times you have to try to defend every single player on the court, This year, does increasing the difficulty mean making the opponent AI smarter or boosting the ratings like it has always been? (Especially considering the emphasis at AI this year)

6- I would also like to know what were the steps taken towards better servers this year. Last year there was a big emphasis on that point. To their credit, the servers have improved considerably in the last few years, but it is still clearly underwhelming. I personally experience significant delay in EVERY only game mode.

7- About MyTeam: They talked about dynamic rating cards and I'd like to know how will injuries affect those types of card. For me, they shouldnt. When a player gets injured, they should leave him with the rating he had before getting injured. I just think this factor is too unpredictable and unfair to the gamer, especially considering there's already the risk of the player not performing well and having a rating decrease that way.

8- About MyCareer: I'd like to know if the ACE (Adaptive Coaching Engine) is in ful effect on this mode? If the coach will make more adjustments than ever and use your player properly considering his strengths and weaknesses. For example: If I'm a SF and a great defender and I'm facing James Harden and the Rockets. If the SG on my team is not very good on D, will the coach assign me to Harden? (please say yes)

9- Another gamplay issue: What were the changes made to physics on alley-oops? It seemed like last year throwing an alley-oop was the money play on every fastbreak. You had to be extremely precise about projecting yourself in front of the catcher before he jumped. Completely unfair. Also, a lot of times you glued to the catcher before he caught, pressed the contest button and it wouldn't affect the play one bit. For me, it has to be nerfed considerably.

10- One of the main problems with MyPlayers, especially in the only enviroment have been the height caps. It was even worse with the 7'2'' PG "Demi-Gods" this year, but have always been a problem. How have you changed that this year? For me, they should simply cap the heights much lower. In my opinion, the ideal way would be caping them at a height that is oversized but not exagerated. Of course there are players like MCW, the Greak Freak, but allowing everybody to create someone like that just made the game unbalanced. The caps should be: 6'4'' PGs, 6'7'' SGs, 6'9'' SFs, 7' PFs, 7'2' Cs. That way, people can still create big players to have size advantage in MyCareer but wouldnt be absurdly difficult for people that create average sized player to defend them. As a 7'2'' center, it was almost impossible to defend 7' SFs when they would attack the rim, because at layups they would simply finish too high.

Thanks for the attention and I hope you have a good time there at 2k @DustinToms!
