Madden NFL 16 News Post

Donny Moore, aka the ‘Madden Ratings Czar’, is leaving Electronic Arts as he will be “pursuing other interests.”

In an official statement on Twitter, Moore said, “After much thought & consideration, I have chosen to step away from @EASports & announce my retirement as the Madden Ratings Czar as I have opted to pursue other interests. I am especially grateful of the opportunity to rate players for some of the greatest fans in video games today. After 16 years, it is finally time to hang up the czar's mouse pad! #Czartirement"

For Moore, this ends a long tenure as the guy running the ratings and updates for Madden. Moore’s tenure spanned 16 years at EA Tiburon, which means he was easily one of the most tenured at that studio. There is no word yet on who will be replacing Moore, but we do expect an announcement soon.

The ratings position occupied by Moore has been a staple of Madden’s internet presence for years. Moore’s ratings oftentimes drew criticism, but the weekly ratings updates were always hugely anticipated by fans, despite what ire they may have drawn.

The ratings this year will likely still come in the same pacing as previous years, and it will be interesting to see if any differences in how much players move up and down the scale happens without Moore at the helm. We’ll certainly be watching it going forward!

One thing I can hope changes (not popular opinion) is that rating updates should be every 4 weeks. So let's say ODB has a game were he drops 5 passes; on Monday his catch ratings shouldn't take a hit; but if he continues struggling after weeks 4, I think then it makes more sense to adjust his ratings to his current playing.

U guys would not like me any more than Donny as i would go toward a NFL 2k5 mlb the show ratings model for use in madden 2017
my biggest diff would be look at madden 2003 and madden 2010 default rosters and in a perfect world i would have 32 people working under me 1 guy per team

I am a huge proponent of this. Player movement daily, ratings changes monthly. However, since my site is real-time, any and all ratings can change whenever the scouts change them. I have no say over that...unless I decide to hold back; but would be the point of live ratings if I did such a thing?

However we did go 16 years with just one guy doing the ratings so I could be wrong.
I think that I have proven that ratings work can be done by one guy. I have 30000+ players in my database...all rated every week. Not impossible. Not inaccurate.

That was 100% true. I wish I had recorded that convo last time. I learned my lesson.

A very legitimate question. Know this: I did not accept anything with EA before due to them asking to compromise my system. Needless to say I have not yet lost my principals. That issue may need to be hacked out...in writing.

I am willing to guess, since they know your position, they may be more open to negotiate to your terms, since they contacted you again...I hope..

As I stated in another thread, if they opened ratings editing back up to gamers in CFM, there would really be no need to have an individual on salary to do that.

Wish this was a prelude to traveling down this path, but my curiousity is peaked towards what lies ahead in this area.

the one that never gets mentioned is that the ratings guy should also be dialed in as to how the ratings transfer to the actual gameplay on the field.

the guy doing the ratings should know exactly what each rating does and make sure those assigned ratings are funtioning during gameplay and aren't just numbers being assigned with no bearng at all.

take for instance spin, juke & elusivness why include the ratings if cpu doesn't utilize arsenal of moves.

kick return rating is useless but it's in the game....just a random number ea assigns.

they had footwork ratings that actually did work and when edited properly you could actually witness better OL/DL interaction but those ratings were removed.

so i guess my point is i hope the next guy assigning ratings works hand in hand with actual game testers to determine which ratings function and which ones don't.

who wants 20 different ratings if only 8 of them actually function on field?

We want all the ratings to work and be significant...

Do you have support for what ratings work and which do not work?

I hope they form a 3 man team to do this job. That way there checks and balances. Also hope they deflate ratings from 0-100 in all categories, thus despairing stars from starters from backups from prospects from bums.

Found this to be quite interesting from an article on another site:

http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/2/8887...ore-retirement

Asked about how Tiburon will handle Madden ratings going forward, the spokesperson told Polygon, "There's a team who collectively ensures authenticity across players, teams, gear and more. They'll continue to use the same tools, database and resources that Donny used to make decisions about ratings changes based on what happens during the NFL season."

Guess they don't need me after all!

Maybe they want you to head that team...

IDK how I feel about that. FBG Ratings is a one man show and has been since its inception.

You need someone to take your ratings and input them into the game.

I sure do! However, the actual RATING of the players. That's a one-man job at FBG.

teamwork makes the dream work. I respect your position, but try to think of a compromise you could live with for the betterment of Madden.

How is compromising a system that works, with years of research placed into it, benefiting Madden if they don't use it the way it is supposed to be used?

Does anyone really think the rating or system are going to change without him? The ratings in this game are just as much marketing as they are anything else. The casual fanbase wants to see their favorite players rated as high as possible.
