Madden NFL 16 News Post

Madden NFL 15 featured a hugely improved defensive game -- but it was limited mainly to the line play, tackling, and overall A.I. adjustments. This year, Madden NFL 16 will feature improved defensive back play as well as motion and weight based gang-tackling according to a new blog from EA Sports.

You will now be able to play the ball or play the receiver as a defensive back, with plenty of options and control to combat the new offensive tools.

Sounds like they made pre-play adjustments on defense easier. Like that you can tell a defender to abandon QB spy

ASSISTED TACKLES AND HALF SACKS ARE FINALLY IN THE GAME

We also worked on the stat-tracking side – Assisted Tackles and Half-sacks are now being tracked appropriately in the stats screen.

SWEET

While most players raved about the changes to tackling in Madden NFL 15, some users complained about feeling too much “suction” in the conservative tackle system. The team took this feedback to heart and tuned both the tackle cone and match distance to eliminate warping (or suction) from the tackling system without sacrificing control or responsiveness.

AWESOME

Good God almighty....

This sounds nice but as with much else, I need to see it. Hopefully it eliminates that ragdoll effect of players where they come up the pile or interaction and just kind of rub off it and fall like a dead fish.

Pre-play adjustments, lining you man up on the WR.

Whoa, finally, it's back.

Eliminating suction tackling.

I gotta see this stuff in motion.

Really like everything they said about tackling. Quick adjustments also sound good. Definitely a good blog, can't wait to see it in action and hope it lives up to what they say.

Is this the same as "defensive assignments" back in the day? I.E fastest CB vs fastest WR?

Still not as good as adding assignments in.. but something even I have asked for, for a while..
EDIT: So I'm happy about that

Guys QB dropbacks and rollouts were redone, I've got 35+ hours with the game, they also redid handoff and read option, QB scramble animations.

No. This is the D adjustment system 2K had.
I'm happy it's in as it's been on wishlists for a while.

JP can you answer gameplay questions? Sorry to bother you if not.

I was wondering how dangerous scrambling QBs appear in this years game. Last year they seemed kind of neutered

If it works like it's supposed to it will be a really nice addition. Loved that in 2K

Weight and momentum based gang tackling is in and looks great.
If this is true and plays the way it is described then this could be a game changer on the gameplay front.

Don't like:
"Aggressive tackles were also improved so that defenders always dive towards the ball carrier instead of just at his facing direction."

To me that's not improved. That's making the aggressive tackles easier and less risk reward..

Nice. We have been complaining for years that this has been omitted and it looks like they did something. DPI is such a HUGE part of the NFL.

The list of new and updated penalties includes:

Encroachment, False Start, Offensive Holding, Facemask, Defensive Pass Interference, Illegal Block in the Back, Neutral Zone Infraction, Defensive Holding, Illegal Forward Pass, Illegal Touching, Delay of Game, Kick Catch Interference Running into the Kicker, Unnecessary Roughness and Roughing the Passer.

Were Qbs able to throw rolling out opposite throwing arm? Currently they do a weird 360 to throw it.

Very nice indeed... IF they work.
