MLB 15 The Show News Post

The official MLB The Show Twitter account has announced Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder, Yasiel Puig as the cover athlete for MLB 15 The Show. Check out the full PlayStation 4 cover here.

UPDATE: As mentioned by a few OSers in this thread, Puig is shown on the cover with Nike gloves and Nike bands on his forearms. Could Nike finally make an appearance this year? It definitely looks like a good possibility.

This marks the 10 year anniversary of the franchise and SCEA plans to reveal some more news this weekend, at the PlayStation Experience.

It blows my mind how so many people automatically say it is a no buy this year just because of the player that is feature on the cover. It's not like you have to play with the guy every game. You see the guy on a few menus and when you look at the case for the game.

16 hr and 69 rbi lands a guy on the cover lol. If Puig played in a smaller market nobody would kno who he is. How about a guy like Jose Abreu who had 37 hr and 107 rbi for a cover? This is a pretty desperate attempt to sell copies by putting an undeserving over hyped guy on the cover.

Abreau = 20th in WAR for hitters
Puig = 23rd in WAR for hitters

Please find me the holy scripture that states only the best players can be put on the cover of a video game.

Where out of 5 plus pages have you gotten racism out of this? Reach much? The guy doesn't play the game the right way and is disrespectful. I get the biased Dodgers fans in here defending their guy. I would be too. But to say he's a likeable guy around the league is a far fetched lie.

If he helps SCEA sell more copies, I'm all for it. As highly regarded as this franchise is, it doesn't even sell a million copies annually.

This is what I got out of this. SCEA reaching out to the gamers in the South America countries. Idk how well they have sold in recent years but it's sure to boost those numbers now.

So what's the right way to play baseball? And how exactly is he disrespectful? More specifically, how is he more disrespectful than anyone else in baseball or people in general?

I don't know if anyone here is racist or xenophobic or not. Based on the comments in here neither can you. You cannot look into the hearts and minds of the people who dislike Puig and presume to know why they do. This is especially true since no one has said anything xenophoic or racist about the choice to have him on the cover. You cannot put words into people's mouths.

Personally I dislike the young man because I think he's a bit cocky and immature. That being said, I am willing to admit that even this is a bit of a rush to judgement based on some of the stories I've read and some of the clips that I have seen. I do not know the guy personally, but that is how he comes off to me. I do, however, think that he is fun to watch on occasion. If he matures a bit I think he can be a very good player and I hope that he does exactly that.

I'm just excited that information is finally starting to come out about a game that I love.

If you don't how he is disrespectful to the game. You're either a.) a Dodgers fan or b.) a casual baseball watcher.

Lol I knew someone was going to play the race card, freaking ridiculous. Anyways I still love the series and will be buying the game but just a bad decision to have Puig on the cover. He's a bum and I'm a Dodger fan.

Neither do I. There is at least 1 racist/xenophobic response in this thread though (and I never stated I was talking about this thread specifically).

or c) a mature adult who realizes that different people from different places will behave and play baseball in different ways, and that it is not one's responsibility to conform to my ideal model of culture and personality just because I want them to.

The racism discussion needs to be dropped now.

It NEVER should have been brought up in the first place and I have no idea why anyone thought it was a good idea to do so.

Maybe so, except he's from Cuba. Cuba, is not in South America.

Someone in this thread literally implied that a person needs to know how to speak english before they "deserve" to be on the cover of a game. If you are going to allow people to post things like that but not allow me to point it out, then you can just go ahead and ban me now. There is absolutely no chance I'm going to stay quiet in the face of those types of statements. It's not fair at all, and if that is the expectation here I have no interest in meeting it.

Did you report it? I didn't see it at all.

Cant expect us to see every post and then assume that just because we allowed something earlier it's okay to talk about again.

That's a terrible justification for bringing up a topic you know isn't allowed to be discussed here.

I'm sorry we missed the earlier post, but that doesn't make it right.

What if there were region special covers? Like St. Louis area would get a Cardinals player cover, and so on.

# 98 MauerMorneau09 @ 12/06/14 01:28 PM
Sad that no one can look through Puig being on the cover and realize that Nike and/or other brands might finally be integrated in the game.

Wow serious? A game that put so much effort and is an amazing game doesn't sell a million? That should change.
