MLB 14 The Show News Post

MLB 15 The Show is surely well on its way to being delivered to gamers next Spring, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add our own input on what we’d like to see in next year’s game.

In many cases, MLB 14 The Show was a pretty well executed game with a few notable flaws that held it back from true greatness. The shortlist of fixes for next year seem obvious, but there are also several gameplay issues we would love to see tidied up before next spring.

Here’s what we’d like to see fixed heading into next year:
  1. Online Play - Because this just has to work next year doesn’t it? This year was closer than ever, but it still wasn’t a great experience by any means.
  2. Commentary - The current commentary team isn’t bad, just stale — and their lines are repeating a bit too often for our tastes. Replacing the current guys is one option, having them add a lot more lines is another one.
  3. Better Management In Franchise Mode - The franchise mode is great, but there are a few items missing I really wish were there. Depth charts is one, but also better feedback on what you are doing as you do it. The experience is fine if you are a baseball savvy guy, but if you don’t know much about how the roster rules work in baseball you will almost certainly be lost guaranteed.
  4. More accuracy in stadiums, jerseys, etc. - The Show on PS3 was always above and beyond on the little things. Nowadays, it seems to be right with the rest of the pack on many of those little things, so another leap in attention to detail would be amazing.
  5. All of those gameplay enhancements - You can list what you’d love to see in the comments. Things like even more fielding animations, more hit variety, etc. These are all no brainers and should be in each new game, but it doesn’t hurt to demand it.
  6. Bonus: Create-A-Stadium. Seriously, I’m a ballpark junkie and I know I’m not the only one. Giving users the ability to create custom stadiums, especially with enough options to recreate many past great ballparks (or build a new ballpark for your franchise) would be an amazing addition we’ve not really ever seen in a baseball game.
What do you want to see in MLB 15 The Show?

Simple request. Add a "play next appearance" option after a road to the show game so you don't always have to exit and go to your main screen to advance to the next game. People would LOVE that option and use it every time they played.

FRANCHISE

Something important that needs to be fixed: RARELY (I almost want to say NEVER) do you see upcoming free agents re-sign with their current team without hitting free agency during the first five days following the World Series of exclusive negotiations.

In the game, most big name free agents don't even hit the market and give you a chance to sign them, which is completely unrealistic.

Please like this post if you agree, I hope I'm not the only one.

1. Better bullpen management by AI, particularly when it comes to the use of LOOGYs. This has been a major issue for the series since the beginning and never seems to get any better. Even if a lefty pitcher was getting crushed most real life managers would never bring on a RH pitcher to face a lefty.

2. More responsive fielders, especially corner infielders and outfielders on plays near the wall. Maybe it's just me but it's near impossible to make a diving stop on a hard hit ball down the lines. It's also been tough making catches on fly balls that are headed for the wall.

3. Fewer opposite field home runs. This has continually gotten better with each iteration but could still use improvement. At least they've finally gotten rid of the opposite field home run on inside pitches. That was always a pet peeve of mine.

4. Quick access to stats. I want to be able to view season stats for the current pitcher or hitter with one press of a button while in game

5. Player of the Month awards for each league

6. More doubles down the line. Too many hot shots down the line turn into singles. In over 120 games I have yet to see a double down the line past the first baseman by me or the CPU.

7. Fewer shadows over home plate. 1pm start time, mid July...the shadows should not start creeping in over the plate in the middle of summer as if it were a 4pm start.

8. Fix players sliding into second on a hit and run.

9. Catchers make too many plays around the plate. They're all quick as cats and there's just too many plays around the plate.

10. AI hitters that really punish you for pitches over the middle of the plate as well as high offspeed pitches

11. Probably not realistic for this year's release but I would love for pre-orders to give us access to a spring training mode a couple of weeks early.

Ability to fully customize seasons so we can authentically recreate classic season. With all these amazing rosters out there, it would be great to be able to replay say the 1978 season with correct teams, leagues, divisions, playoffs etc...

One of the most frustrating things with Franchise mode is not knowing what the players want in arbitration. You have to guess way too much and it affects who you can sign as a free agent because you do not know how much of your budget you have to work with. The players should tell you the $ amount they want so you can make an educated decision about how far apart the money actually is.

This is my #1 wish for pretty much every sports game out there (Madden and NHL) as well, but I have three main concerns with this are:

1. The calendar. I start a franchise mode with the 2005 rosters, I want to have the calender say 2005, and then change to 2006 the next season. Can this option be programmed in?

2. Throwback jerseys/Classic Stadiums. I would want a jersey/stadium creator to be able to make actual throwbacks/stadiums (or new ones). I've come up with around 400 designs for all 30 teams.

3. Team names. What if I start a year in 2004? Can I bring back the Montreal Expos (and have the announcers say "Montreal Expos") for at least one season, and then move them to Washington?

4. Minor-league affiliates. Teams change minor-league affiliates all the time. Can I bring back old minor-league teams if I so wish?

The four options mentioned could basically make this the greatest baseball video game of all time. I would start buying this series again.

On the note of custom playoffs, I think it would be cool if we could pick the following (depending on how many divisions there are in each league, up to 4 divisions): 1 team in each league, 2 teams in each league (with optional play-in game with 3 team), 4 teams in each league (with optional play-in game with 5 team), or 8 teams in each league (with optional play-in game with 9 team). Each round can range anywhere from single-elimination to best-of-9 series.

And in the name of all that I hold sacred, CUSTOM SCHEDULES! I hate, I HATE, I HATE, the unbalanced schedule!

Could someone answer these questions as well?

1. Can the player choose the weather settings in 14?

2. It's been about 5 years since I last purchased the game, MLB 09 on PS2. In the offseason, a free agents contract demands were based on attributes, not stats. If you lowered a player's attributes, his demands would lower as well. Has anyone tried this on more recent games? Is it still like this?

My biggest wish is to have full customization options similar to NBA 2k15 when starting a franchise, namely:

1. Trade approval - this is KEY. How many franhises were ruined by the Angels trading Pujols back to the Cardinals, or the Twins trading Buxton and Sano for 2 relievers. Not everyone wants to have to do 30 team control.

2. Sliders for trade frequency, blockbuster trades, re-signing aggressiveness, chemistry/morale difficulty/effects...

This would be a MASSIVE upgrade, with no downside- it's such a great game, but realistic trades are super difficult to recreate, and while I'd like the computer to still generate them, it would be so worthwhile to let the user be the final judge.

Thanks for the awesome work each year SD Studios!

Not sure if it's been mention but year after year I bunt with a guy on 1st, but I'm safe at 1st because of an error. I get poor play with no sacrifice..

Probably more a long standing bug than being a wish.

This may seem really stupid but I was watching a marathon of baseball movies last night and I have always wanted this element to be possible in the show. What element you ask? Well of course you aren't going to ask....But I will tell you anyway.

I would like the big moments of baseball movies to be like a one in a million chance to happen. Like ripping the cover of a ball on a towering home run that wins the game. Or putting the lights out a la The Natural. Or calling your shot in game 7 of the World Series. All of these moments are part of the romanticism of Baseball. I don't want these to be common events by any means . I really want it to be a one in million chance of happening.

I know these will never be put in, but I just think it would be one of the coolest moments in The Show ever.

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before. but i really hope challenge replays are in this year

I would absolutely love managerial personalities. It does not need to be in depth (maybe like 5 types), but that these managers have a separate type of personality with offense, defense, and pitching.

For instance: Manager A

Offensive personality: small ball (e.g. bunting, baserunning, etc,)
Defensive personality: conservative (e.g. doesn't use shifts or defensive replacements too often)
Pitching: Aggressive (e.g. matchups, pound strikezone)

Manager B

Offense: Aggressive (e.g. stealing, hit and run)
Defensive: Aggressive (e.g. defensive replacement, shifts, double switch)
Pitching: Power (favors power arms like the Royals)

I think it is time that we see personalities. It would be fun to know how the opposing manager operates so we can attempt to neutralize them our strengths.

Import players into active franchise would be awesome

For those who create historic rosters, it'd be cool if they could upload historic photos for the player profile and player card photos.

Has the idea of an individual team vault for import/export been discussed as a possibility?

The player vault is so terrific to be able to grab individual players and load them in place of others on your roster, it'd be amazing to grab individual teams out of a Team Vault the same way.

Imagine if they added a Create-A-Team and Uniform feature along with a Team Vault? The possibilities would be endless.

A few more suggestions for this amazing game:

Fix the look o the infield dirt, groundskeepers would be fired on the spot if they kept the infield looking like this.

How about realistic weather and wind along with the realistic lighting.

Also, how about some defensive ratings for outfielders that really effect the outcome of plays and some games.

A search function for the Vault.

I would love to see them do something with rivalries, divisional rivalries, and more importantly, dynamic rivalries that develop in a season and carry over throughout.

Include celebrations, beanball wars, player ejections, manager ejections, etc....maybe not full out brawls but you get the point and have that kind of stuff percolate and carry on over the course of a season or even longer.

I know I'm probably nuts and they'd never include it but I just think it'd take the level of immersion in a dynasty that much further and really add to it. The passion, competitiveness, and yes....even sometimes the nastiness is what I think makes baseball awesome and really factors in that human element.

Batter's Eye, what the old 2K series had. Basically, guy who had high discipline ratings on some pitches the pitch and possible location would display. It made that attribute really matter IMO.

Better trade logic. Too often a first place team trades away their best player for a prospect.
More accurate salaries. Players like Ryan Howard or A-Rod should be virtually untradeable because of inflated salaries and deflated production.
Better manager models. eg. John Gibbons and John Farrell look nothing close to the real men.
