MLB 14 The Show News Post

MLB 15 The Show is surely well on its way to being delivered to gamers next Spring, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add our own input on what we’d like to see in next year’s game.

In many cases, MLB 14 The Show was a pretty well executed game with a few notable flaws that held it back from true greatness. The shortlist of fixes for next year seem obvious, but there are also several gameplay issues we would love to see tidied up before next spring.

Here’s what we’d like to see fixed heading into next year:
  1. Online Play - Because this just has to work next year doesn’t it? This year was closer than ever, but it still wasn’t a great experience by any means.
  2. Commentary - The current commentary team isn’t bad, just stale — and their lines are repeating a bit too often for our tastes. Replacing the current guys is one option, having them add a lot more lines is another one.
  3. Better Management In Franchise Mode - The franchise mode is great, but there are a few items missing I really wish were there. Depth charts is one, but also better feedback on what you are doing as you do it. The experience is fine if you are a baseball savvy guy, but if you don’t know much about how the roster rules work in baseball you will almost certainly be lost guaranteed.
  4. More accuracy in stadiums, jerseys, etc. - The Show on PS3 was always above and beyond on the little things. Nowadays, it seems to be right with the rest of the pack on many of those little things, so another leap in attention to detail would be amazing.
  5. All of those gameplay enhancements - You can list what you’d love to see in the comments. Things like even more fielding animations, more hit variety, etc. These are all no brainers and should be in each new game, but it doesn’t hurt to demand it.
  6. Bonus: Create-A-Stadium. Seriously, I’m a ballpark junkie and I know I’m not the only one. Giving users the ability to create custom stadiums, especially with enough options to recreate many past great ballparks (or build a new ballpark for your franchise) would be an amazing addition we’ve not really ever seen in a baseball game.
What do you want to see in MLB 15 The Show?

They should do a mode similar to connected franchise, being able to play multiplayer rtts

Franchise mode is my bread and butter so enhancements on that front would be my primary "wish". I'd love to see better stat tracking, more overlays regarding the current season and even past season comparisons during games, and more mode specific commentary. You get the occassional "last season this team went on a run in September..." type dialogue but that seems to be strictly limited to exhibition games, bring it to franchise! I'm too am onboard with the notion of Create-A-Ballpark, I think this would be a nice addition, maybe take a page out of Madden and allow for franchises to relocate/rebuild? Probably asking too much there but it's worth a mention. My only major complaint with game play over the past few years are the fielding animations, last year I specifically remember allowing a TON of infield singles on balls hit to the shortstop only because he would lollygag due to the locked in animation, looks nice though. I know RTTS and Diamond Dynasty are popular but I NEVER even touch those modes so I can't vouch for any wishes there.

I don't think we could say online was closer then ever. I felt it went backwards as far as game experience. On a positive note the addition of online franchise was nice but needs some work.

They need to correct the framerate in certain ballparks. The game needs to play as smooth as FIFA, 2K and NHL. The choppiness is beyond frustrating. I would be willing to take a hit on graphics if the animations and gameplay was smooth. No excuses now because we are next gen. The show has been plagued with this since PS3 days.

I just hope the frame rate is smooth. The choppy frame rate especially during cutscenes kind of ruined the experience for me in 14.

I hate to beat a dead horse but my wishlist:

a) rosters to be carried over same as franchise

b) edit names of coaches, managers & umps

c) season to be customized to reduce teams to 26, or 24, or 16, or whatever one chooses

d) custom schedules, get rid of interleague play, choice of 154 game schedule & 162 games

e) editable contracts on money & length, though I have read somewhere MLB doesn't want that.

f) ability to move teams back to original cities.

Much improved stat tracking, including newer metrics like UZR, WAR, etc. And have them carry over on a baseball card or something for easy reference please.

Three things for me:

1. Fix the random PCI for timing hitting. The '12 version of The Show had it pretty good. Since then, it's been so random that it's hard to use.

2. More records to break. The same records since at least '08 (I didn't play '07 and prior) are in the game. I really would like to attempt to break records such as homeruns in consecutive games, most total bases in a season, etc.

3. More variety of stats. This is something that a ton of people have been asking for. I'm not a sabrmetric type of guy but it would be nice to see things like War, babip (for hitters), etc.

There are more but those are the main three I'd like to see.

* Cutscene frame rate optimization

* Historical Mode (recreating important events from baseball history)

* Create/import/export custom logos and teams (ala FIFA Creation Centre)

* Sounds of the Show - proper style

* Enhanced stadium details

* Different body models/arm tattoos

* Face scanned players

* Class-A Advanced MiLB teams

* Create-A-Stadium

Create and Relocate teams

Fix free agency: It seems that a lot of times I will offer a guy exactly what he wants and he has no interest in signing with my team or re-signing. Even more times I offer them a TON more money than what any other team is offering and yet they still go to the team that is ranked as their #2 or #3. For instance I was trying to re-sign Billy Butler, I can't remember what exact amount he wanted but I offered him about 5 million more for an extra year than he wanted. His #2 choice offered him 30 million less for 2 less years and he still went to them. It happens to much that I give an amazing offer and they still go to a team that offered them so much less.

Different running styles, there should be a noticeable difference between a speedster running the bases and David Ortiz. Different follow throughs on the swings would be nice too. Anything to make players stand out individually.

My list:
  • Stadiums with retractable roofs closed at the right times, such as Arizona's closed during day games when it's hot, and no one should have a rain game when they can close the roof.
  • Real MiLB stadiums would be great, perhaps at the AAA level or more variety in the stadiums.
  • More variety in the LED ribbon boards. They generally don't flash the team name during the entire game. Also more team specific animations on the boards would be nice.
  • The ability to see who the manager and coaching staff are on your team in RRTS. They would change and I would have no idea.
  • Better logic in selecting when the CPU selects jerseys in RRTS. It seemed like I saw the camouflage jerseys for the Reds and Padres, as well as the purple D-Backs, much more often than I did on TV. The ultimate option would be to let the play select jerseys for both teams.
  • The ability to see transactions (perhaps a news page) in RRTS during the regular season.
  • The ability to create audio for RRTS player name from existing audio. For example, I could create my name if I could combine two other names.
  • The ability to create audio for RRTS player name from existing audio. For example, I could create my name if I could combine two other names.
I'm sure I am forgetting something, but this is what I remember playing this year.

I agree with #3. I know baseball really well, but taking the time to learn all the rules that apply around years of service and the 40-man roster is a pain. I love the options and love that you can have the CPU handle it, but I think it could be better.

Whatever they can do to make us spend less time in menus, without sacrificing depth, should be explored. I feel like I'm in the minority in a place like OS, but I want to quickly make the handful of changes between games so I can play more of the game itself. I feel like NCAA Football 14 did that perfectly while other games like Madden, FIFA, and the Show require too many screens. I'm lucky to get an hour to play every few nights, so I want something that I can delegate to the CPU or a simplified experience. Games today are built for people who can spend 2 or 3 hours a day playing, not the ones that want the continuity of a season but stretched for time.

Here is my biggest wish:

Player profression/regression revamp: currently it is broken. It is very bad, that older players are regressing 15-20 points per rating throughout a season. A productive player in April becomes bad until the playoffs. I understand, that older players have to regress.

Here is my advice: all players can regress or progress during the season, but this should be only based on performance. When the season ends, the game should adjust all players ratings depending on their age.

This way, players like Big Papi are going to be still good during the playoffs, but they are going to regress for the second season. This way, it will make sense to sign older players to 1 year contracts.

Here is my wishlist:

- Postseason patch on the hats during playoffs and World Series ones during the World Series

- Some kind of MLB Network Integration maybe a highlight show where if not hightlights, atleast the scores of games and if a certain player that night played well.

- More "Sideline" reporters during playoffs, maybe even going to a break after a inning, show a manager with a headset on talking to the commentators (Kinda like after the game interviews they do now)

- Bring back the newspaper for franchise or at least have a Twitter showing comments from different baseball people (Like Madden).

- This is total selfishness on my part and probably hard to do (although 2k5 kinda did it) but after a playoff series win or world series win show the players in the locker room doing interviews and spraying drinks everywhere and celebrating.

- Individual team jerseys for the All Star game

- Better stadium fly in with maybe the national anthem playing

- Of course better fielding animations

- Rainouts with double headers, also in the middle of a game and showing the grounds crew rolling out the tarp

- Cardinals Sunday hats (They had them before, don't know why they took them out), and the 90's style Astros uniforms

- Better pre game animations, maybe showing teams taking BP with their bp hats and jerseys.

That's all I can think of... Just looked and seen Im very much a presentation guy lol

"Quick Pitch" games must expedited. A 9 inning game should be completed in under 10 mins. (Examples See Allstar Baseball 05 and Tony Larussa 96)

"Online Play - Because this just has to work next year doesn’t it? This year was closer than ever, but it still wasn’t a great experience by any means."

Sounds like Chris Sanner is a Cubs fan, too. We say something very similar every season.

Give us an owner mode, kind of like MVP 05 had. Man I loved that mode and it was challenging for me to make money. Or bring back the old franchise where we could set ticket prices, hot dog prices, etc. And the money we make during the season is our budget for the offseason.

Ability to relocate teams like Madden. Would love to move the Rays out of St. Pete to Montreal or somewhere else.

Better progression for both older guys and young guys. I don't want my top 10 pick from the last season's draft to be able to be an 80+ overall in his second season.

Create a draft class. Makes it easier for us to keep realism in our franchises.

Create a stance/delivery. Don't know if it's possible but it would be cool.

More brands in the game. Such as Under Armour cleats, wilson gloves, louisville slugger bats, etc.

Injuries occur more often on default settings. I have yet to see an injury in any game I have played. Even when I hit a line drive off of a pitcher, he just gets back on the mound and gets ready to throw the next pitch.

Ability to edit generic coaches appearance and name ONLY. I hate seeing generic coaches in my franchises. So it could be cool if we could create old coaches like Joe Torre, Tony La Russa, Don Zimmer, etc.

Also would love have Single A in RTTS. Not many guys start the season out at double AA after getting drafted.

And that's all I can think of. Even if some of this couldn't be incorporated in 15 would love to see it all in there at some point.

I like all of the above ideas. Mine are fairly simple.

1. Must have an Archive System. A way to look at previous seasons played. I'd like to be able to see things that we achieved from the 2014 season, even when I'm playing in the 2018 season.

2. Records! This is a MUST HAVE! In baseball statistics matter to people more so than perhaps any other sport. It would be nice to see the top 25 all-time leaders in each category. How great would it be to chase down the records with that hotshot rookie you draft. Chasing records and being able to compare your players to the greats is how depth is created. This is a great way to have a far more deep franchise experience from time to time. It would also be great to have team specific records as well, but I'll start simple with just the MLB. I'd even take just having them open slotted to be filled with our current seasons.

3. Definitely need to fix the players "baseball card" why is there only 2 years of their history. It should be designed very much like a bubble gum baseball card. teams played, games, hits, etc. It also should show minor league stats also. "High Heat Baseball" on PS2 had this and it really helped with the depth. When I would make a call-up to the majors I would look at which player was having a successful season... not just which player rated higher. Also be nice if it had an achievement page attached where it would show how many gold gloves, batting titles, all-stars, MVP / CY awards. Just another nice little thing to add to the depth.

4. Control of retiring players! Nothing drives me nuts more than this. How does a player retire due to "Poor FA Market" before the free agency period begins?? I signed Grady Sizemore a month into the year and he hit .320 / 18 / 83 the rest of the year for me. Then abruptly retired following the season due to "Poor FA Market." I definitely wanted him back and he was 30 years old. Let us control when a player can retire or at least approve it. Losing players way before the should really drags the experience down.

5. Online League... same as the OFFLINE experience. I'd love it to be fully customizable much like the NBA2k15 League version. setting how many games. teams, injuries, etc. this would be fantastic.

6. Accurate contracts. Understand there is a rumor that they can't have accurate contracts, so either make everything half of the true value OR Allow us to edit their salaries to make them accurate (I Prefer this)

They should add a celebration button when you hit a double or triple.
Add team celebrations like the dodgers bubble machine.
Get real sponsors like Rawlings and Louisville slugger.

Player models, Player models, Player models, !!!!!

For the upgrade from PS3 to PS4, we got only next gen hair and beards for the player models. Just have to look at Madden, NBA 2K and NHL for the graphical jump that should be a minimum for next gen consoles.

Face scans should be almost 100%, since player faces are always seen, unlike football and hockey. NBA 2K did I great job with face scans and the faces showing emotions. The Show must have new and improved body types. They really need to get rid of the "blockyness" of the body parts (see Miggy's barrel chest and stomach) and have much more natural/realistic body proportions. NBA 2K also did a great job this year with the new leaner body types.

The other games have improved in this area by leaps and bounds. Now, The Show must do the same. Let's see if The Show comes through next year. I have my doubts, since we have not heard anything about face scanning and it will probably be too late to wait until spring training to do the scans, but am hoping for the best.
