I will not give them a break on judgement like they're a new company. I see people complain about the other game, but they view them in two different lenses as if they both don't cost $60. The more I play Live, the more frustrated I get and the more it seems like a graphics patch to 14. You're supposed to blow us away, not have us going "man, this is almost basketball... thumbs up" lol. If we want true competition, in my mind we have to stop supporting half efforts and demand more. In 2014 I should not have to pay $60 for a bball game and wait for EA patches to tune and update everything. I'm not a fan boy of the other game either. I'm a bball fan. This game is so far behind that it can't catch up like this, because the other game won't stand still. I think they had the right idea with Elite reboot, it was just poorly executed. Dropping a sequel to Live 10 with stripped down options on a next gen system is a 3.5 out of 10 to me in 2014. This wouldn't have passed in 2010, but since the bar is so low it's praised in 2014?
Exactly bro well said! I want Live to succeed because we need competition in all sports games for that matter, but this game needs to be judged by 2015 standards. I don't want to turn this into a Live vs 2K thread but the fact is EA has been making basketball games a lot longer than 2K & it seems like people forget that. We all know Live is playing catch up but like you said they're still charging full price for the game so it should be judged accordingly. I do see the potential in Live & I'm sure it can be a nice change of pace for some, but for me I just can't justify paying full price for another basketball when it's cleary a work in progress. This is coming from a guy who grew up on Live & started out playing Lakers vs Celtics on Sega Genesis lol.

Here's what I don't get. NHL 15 has lack of modes but great gameplay and gets thrashed. This one has all the modes and laughable controls and it's getting praised for being better than last year. Indy volleyball for xbox 360 was better than Live 14, thats not saying much. NHL is 5 modes away from being the greatest sports game ever, yet NBA Live was frustrating to me within 2 minutes when i struggle to gather a rebound when I time it perfectly. The fact it has an alley oops button that can be easily used as a bailout every play of the game is a disaster...I'm sure NOBODY takes advantage of that. NHL you tune up the goalies and have an unreal experience. Can we be fair? Same company...one is a deadman walking

Something I don't understand about the presentation: After FT's, you see players are about to high5 eachother (and all these rituals), but it always gets cut and there's kind of a jump-cut back to the player - before those cutscenes ever play to the end. Why did they even put it there if it always gets cut? It looks really weird, especially for a game that's trying to showcase authentic presentation.

Unless, of course, the user was pressing a button to skip it, but judging from WTF's videos, I don't think he did.

I just figured out why it does that. There is something under visual that is set to accellerated. Set it to normal and it doesn't cut out quick. I just literally figured that out.

Think they should have that set by default it does look weird

Nice. Would you set it to normal in your next video? I'd like to see the presentation at its finest.

Also, WTF, don't you find steals a bit to easy? It looks like you don't even need to spam the button, it works after 1 try...at least from some videos I watched. I wish the AI was smarter when it comes to ball handling.

That's the Automotion of the presentation.

If you ask me, they realized that the game didn't have enough setting options (with no sliders and all that) and decided to make a setting out of anything possible, so it seems like you can customize more things...

If you put the reach in foul slider at 90-100, you won't be reaching much, or else you will be fouled out. You might be fortunate to grab some steals, but if you spam, you'll get called for it.

I'll record another one with it set to normal. It makes a huge difference and I'm excited about it, haha. Itll follow guys to the bench, get set for fts, etc.

Yeah, but I mean, I'd rather not be able to steal not because of being called for fouls, but because the ball handler was smart enough to avoid it (or even pass me by if I'm too aggressive on the steals). Fouls shouldn't be the game's only defensive tactics.

Looking forward to watching your next video.

I'll actually probably go with live 16' next year. i've been with 2k since 2k5 or 6. Before that really just played ea's march maddness. But I'm just tired of a less than average online experience with 2k, ea may be terrible at A.I. and I'm sure there is going to be quite a few online exploits, but at least the game will be responsive controller wise.

I dont mind 2k offline, they do momentum well and obviously much better at EA at a few things, but even offline the pacing is just a bit slow, not crazy about the dribble controls-liked 2k12s best, hate the dead time they still freaking have from occassional inbound plays taking 5 seconds just to hand the ball to the player, that just too realistic. Faster pace would at least bring it closer to to nba scoring without having to play over 8min qts. I'm tired of seeing these same things over and over. And one of the thing I use to love, great sound tracks have become terrible. Maybe three songs I like alot and the rest hurt my ears.

Would like to give live a shot, probably will rent it this year and hope for progress to want to buy it next year.

You basically just said you don't like simulation bball!!! Its all good though.live will have to go that route on day if they hope to compete for bball genre dominance

This!!!!!

In no way am I'm bashing live, but I want them to do better. I also want customers and fans to demand better. People are justifying 15's lack of realism on court .. is it fun??? it can be but it isnt like other titles arent or havent been for years now LIVE didnt RESURRECT the fun in games...some folk are overly reaching with these buzz terms lol...."Well live isnt a simulation sport so blah blah"....Mannn cmon now we all know live is supposed to be Sim..heck it pretty much created the word SIM in sports titles..This isnt advertised as NBA Live Jam 15...Folks are so bent on something "different" they are giving them a pass on things that if was happening in other sports titles would get massacred.

The bells and whistles are excellent......

Presentation is good, but its supposed to be WITH THE ESPN LICENSE...no kudos from me...they have had the resources in their lap for years....

Yes I'm going to say it again the clipping ............and the reason it might seem i'm going overboard with this issue is because it makes me question the RTP mojo....

If there is a lack of body detection how can RTP even be considered????
If the CPU swipes for the ball and his hand cuts through my player's body like a hot knife through butter and steals the ball CONSTANTLY wheres the RTP???

IJS HHG as crazy as this sounds was correct right about this issue...I wouldnt even consider it a bug...We all grew up playing LIVE(since live 95)...I just think as fans we deserve more especially with the power of the systems we have now....I want live to be better it just pisses me off that it shows promise then drops the ball.....that pic above and numerous others i've posted are examples ...it kills the gameplay in a MAJOR way and I want them to fix it...

Heck this same game Andre Drummond went for a loose ball, the animation to pick the ball up triggered, but he came up without the ball and proceeded to dribble as if he had the ball in his hands cmon now!!!!!

Clipping and sliding are in every sports game. I just ask that they be limited to visual issues and not things that allow for the impossible like getting the ball through someone's body.

Live 14 had a major issue with this. I still saw some occurrences in my time with live 15 but it sounds like they are still updating and adding animations so hopefully it can get to the point where it is just an eyesore and not the difference in a possession.

this confuses me to no end. why do you want the game to get nba scoring in 5 minute quarters? do we not want a sim at all?

.
Exactly the over abundance is my issue NO game is perfect...but when the a.i. determines that its going to steal the ball at all costs and pulls a "indiana jones temple of doom" on me and takes the ball by sticking his hand through my chest...

Spoiler

we have issues..
..especially if it happens repeatedly in the course of one game.....

Seriously though...it happens too MUCH...after every play I just check instant replay and there are issues everywhere...in real time it looks great in some cases but go manually check instant replay its like wdf...its like the game is cutting corners to try to look fluid in realtime....that might be why no 5 on 5 footage was shown because slowed down its baaaaaaaaaaaad...I just played nets vs cavs POST PATCH and manually instant replayed after every bucket in the 1st minute of the 1st quarter ....this is what was recorded...(over 5 clippings in that short span)

Did i say i wanted it in the 100s for 5 min qts? No thats just something u pulled out of thin air. I just want higher number of possessions in a six qt game than 2k has. We all cant play three hours straight like some can. I just want the score closer to nba score if your playing 8 or 9 minute. Not actually 110 pts, just closer. Most online quick games ive played have been 45 to 42 kinda scores. Still want sim but not boring realistic such as unnecessary wasted time like slow inbounds, slow free throw routines, and slightly faster pacing for animations. I didnt have a problem with 2ks pacing in last gen.
But the first two next gens have felt a little too much weighed down, some clunkiness in response and online seems to have designed delay to help elminate inconsistent lag. Id rather it be inconsistent and sometimes feel awesome then always have lag. That alone makes me interested in eas title.

Man this looks ugly. In my opinion, EA should take a completely different approach to basketball games instead of trying to catch up to 2k. I've been playing since Live 96 and the very first 2k for the Dreamcast. I've always ended up playing more live until about 2006. What worked for EA in the past was the intuitive controls, fun balanced and fast paced online experience . I Even NBA NBA Street series as well. Let 2k look pretty and be a Sim ball game. Ea should just focus being Ea. Here are some of my ideas or concepts that might just work.
- ability to control players celebrations and taunts just like in Fifa or NHL: Boost players stamina when used at the right time or technical foul when overused.
- star based skill moves: again, Fifa uses this very effectively although soccer has more skill moves to pull off with the right stick. Live can borrow this. For example, players with 5 star dribble moves can pull off the shamrock or 5 star post move skillers can do the dream shake etc.
- bring back the freestyle controls from live 06: high flyer, playmaker, etc
- take advantage of great Ea servers: this where the competition struggles for years now, and at times I find 2ks online head to head games very repetitive and boring. Ea should make the game fun and well balanced where skillful players get rewarded with wins, even if it makes game more 'arcadey'.
