NHL 15 News Post

Now that the EA Access trial period has started, Xbox One players have noticed that the list of missing modes and features in next-gen NHL 15 is much larger than previously expected. In a prior interview with Sean Ramjagsingh, some of these were hinted at but not fully disclosed, but the depth of some of the gutted features seems to be larger than initially anticipated. The following items are features which users have noticed are missing while playing the early access to NHL 15 -- keep in mind this information is preliminary and some of these could actually be in the game but well hidden. With just six hours of time to test, it doesn't leave much room to explore:

Modes/Features
  • No GM Connected
  • No Online Team Play (when this is patched into the game later this year, it will use real NHL players and teams)
  • No EA Sports Hockey League
  • No EA Sports Arena
  • No Online Shootouts
  • No Live the Life
  • No Be A Legend
  • No Winter Classic
  • No tournaments or Battle for the Cup
  • No season mode (you can only play seasons in Be A GM, which is limited to NHL teams)
  • No NHL 94 Anniversary mode
  • No custom music support
  • No create-a-play designer
  • Cannot customize each team's AI
  • No create-a-team
  • No way to edit individual players
  • Practice mode is now limited to one skater vs. an AI goalie
Gameplay
  • No custom camera option
  • No Action Tracker replay highlights
  • No Top 3 Stars at the end of games.
Be A GM
  • Yearly draft is fully automated by the CPU
  • Cannot play the AHL games for your chosen franchise
  • Players sent down to the minors do not accumulate any season stats
  • No fantasy draft option
  • No preseason games
Be A Pro
  • No option to sim ahead to the next shift
  • You only play in the NHL; you cannot play for minor league teams
  • The Memorial Cup tryout period is gone. You now begin by picking an NHL team, or by letting a random CPU team draft you.
  • No All-Star game
Ultimate Team
  • Cannot play against your friends
  • No tournaments
  • No mobile app
All of the above features were available last year in NHL 14 for the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 but appear to be missing this year on the new-generation of consoles. If you have NHL 15 early access and have noticed any of these are actually in the game or if anything additional is missing let us know in the comments below.

I really want to cancel my preorder and stand in the line with you guys. But the game is so much fun, I can't.

The only chance to rescue a little bit in this desaster is, if EA cuts the price or brings some features in very soon as a patch. This must include sim to the next shift and manually draft in Be a GM.

I really hate to sound like an EA NHL fanboy (despite I be one) but the features missing don't affect me that much. It doesn't make me want to cancel my preorder.

But the good thing is, DeSouza is entertaining again with his "This series is going to get stomped in"... while this is the closest we got to this I believe there is still a 16 where they bring most of the old features in.

edit: I might found a mode I will be missing

Can somebody have a look if the offline shootout mode is in?

I just dont understand it. If AHL teams are playable in exhibition why can't you play AHL games in the GM mode? why dont AHL players have their stats tracked? WE CaaNT even DRAFT in GM Mode? None of this makes sense. Something catastrophic must of went wrong during development of this game. If only companies like EA could swallow their pride and realize this game isn't even worth releasing. Save your resources and make a worthwhile game, plz????

It's about damn time for a new company to step up to the plate in regards to sports titles. Ea football n hockey are a fricken disaster and have been for the most part for years. It's the same crap every year!!!
I mean Wth? How in gods name can a yearly offering be so stripped down, what a ***king embarrassment!!!

After taking last year off I need video game hockey so this is gonna be hard for me, I might open a gamefly free trial just to get my fix.
Read a tweet from Rammer saying "a new draft is coming in a patch" but at this point I really don't know what to believe from these guys. I don't want to talk bad about the Dev's cause i don't know what goes on behind the scenes but I just feel used and sad. This used to be my favorite series dating back like you to Sega. I am still trying to be optimistic that they will patch in something great but until they do I won't be giving them my money this year.

EA will never do or patch in anything great.... Because they don't have to, like you said there's no choice for the consumer...

Remember this quote?

Quote:
Q: I know there’s not going to be a next-generation version of NHL 14 this year. Was there a reason for this? Was there not enough lead time up to when your studio got the final build of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4? Or did you want to just make sure you had a better quality product to put out the following year?

Sean Ramjagsingh: We wanted to be focused on putting out the best game for this console generation. It’s fantastic that we focused all of our efforts on PS3 and 360. The great thing about EA Sports right now is the sharing that we’re doing. The UFC and FIFA franchises; those guys are figuring out how to develop for next-generation consoles and the technological challenges that come with developing for new consoles.
So they have to figure that part out and then build features on top of that. For us, since we’re coming in later on, we won’t have to battle all those technological issues because they’ve figured them out already. This lets us focus more on the features which is something fans can appreciate…
EDIT: And here's another thing that just crossed my mind. They spent all this time and resources on things like high quality crowd graphics but couldn't get in core, seemingly no-brainer features like being able to sim to your next shift in BAP or actually drafting players in Be A GM. It's just ridiculous and completely unacceptable.

What makes this even worse is the fact that we're only just now finding out about this lack of features less than a week before release. I mean what would have happened if there were no early access? It just feels really gross to me on EA's part that they'd treat their consumers like that and be so completely vague.

The lack of EASHL was one thing, and eventually they had the balls to come forth and be honest with everyone about it. I thought that was great and so did most around here. But this here is a joke if you ask me. It's a slap in the face, and I'm just completely disappointed things went down like this because I was fully looking forward to getting the game this Tuesday and playing the hell out of it during my week off. But now? I highly, highly doubt that's going to happen, unless EA can do some miracle damage control here, and even then, I really don't know.

At this point, I'm not sure why anyone would buy the next gen version. Theres just nothing there for online or offline players, unless you're really into HUT(they're going to make so much money on HUT this year with everything else taken out).

# 189 fearwhatnow @ 09/05/14 05:15 AM
Technological issues!!?? The PS4/XBONE architecture is similar to PC and it's easier for devs than PS3/X360 was. Everytime a EA programmer/dev/PR guy is interviewed the result is lies, lies, lies and lies. They need to come up straight and admit it: They're focusing on online modes like Ultimate Team because they want money from microtransactions.

Wow. Just....wow. This is getting sad.

I'm not sure why anyone would bother to buy either version. Judging from that video that was posted of the 360/PS3 version, it basically looks like NHL 14 with the NHL 15 logo and Patrice Bergeron slapped on it. Of course, the guy didn't show too much gameplay, but if this is the effort they put forth for PS4/XB1, I can't imagine it being any better on the old systems.

If they were actually honest to begin with and price it accordingly (I.e. $25), I wouldn't have an issue and buy it.

How they can justify full price for this is beyond me.

# 192 SWEGAMER @ 09/05/14 05:52 AM
I´ve bought every NHL game since NHL93 and played the **** out of all of them. The last few years i´ve spent probably 98% of the time playing EASHL, when that was removed i figured hey, I´ll just pick up a used copy to make sure EA doesnt get my money and play some offline seasons like in the old days. Then came the game modes announcement and it was not in there. Then i knew that not even that was going to be in the game, probably. Still I had some hope that maybe, just maybe, its such a no brainer to put in the game that they didnt bother writing about it. Now, there is simply now way im picking this game up, even if its used. If they would drop the price to like 5$ i might buy it to "play now" and maybe a few versus games, but i doubt it.

Played the series for 22 years, TWENTY TWO YEARS. When you lose a customers after that long, you simply did such a bad job that words cant describe it.

# 193 AP 17 @ 09/05/14 07:02 AM
Playoff mode isn't mentioned in that list. Was that removed as well?

# 194 savedbyrask @ 09/05/14 07:13 AM
After seeing the 360 video, I'm more unimpressed with that than I think I am with the next Gen version. I can deal with probably most of what was removed, I never really played AHL games in Be A GM, but I do obviously in Be A Pro. I don't have a ps4 yet and probably won't until tax season so I'll probably hold off for now, deal with my scratched but playable 14 disc, and hope that there's some improvements released later. And if not, I'll pick it up used and not give EA my money. I'd rather have better graphics and presentation with fewer features than spend $60 on the exact same game I already have. Maybe my money will be better off going to Watchdogs or Assassin's Creed or Far Cry, or even GTA V when that comes out for ps4.

I really wish I could live in your world for one day, I could actually enjoy some videogame hockey. I think the offline gameplay vs. the CPU is like taking a screwdriver to the temple, its that horrendous. The missing modes is a big deal, considering they didn't rebuild the game by any means. Its 95% the same game, and things were removed for unknown reasons. The point is that people wouldn't be complaining if this was priced at like $29.99, but $60 for this???

I hate to pile on here but really? I thought this year was all about presentation. I watched the "Cup Celebration" video & Boston is winning the Stanley Cup @ home and the fans are "sitting" throughout the whole celebration.

I know this amounts to like .5% of the game but it is inexcusable for a home Stanley Cup celebration to be this bad.

For what its worth all home games are like this too. The home crowd just sitting in a mundane trance after the home teams wins a game. Sad.

No saved game highlights like in NHL 14 really sucks

I love this feature in Madden and FIFA because you can at the end of an online game, go back and watch highlights. Super disappointed this is missing as well.
