NBA 2K15 News Post

GameInformer has posted an article listing "29 Reasons Why MyGM May Be the Future of Franchise Modes," going over the new conversation system, GM tools, scouting, player progression, offseason, and much more in NBA 2K15's MyGM mode.

Here are some tidbits from the article:
  • On Virtual Currency: "Visual Concepts is distancing itself from its controversial approach to injecting VC into the MyGM experience last year. In NBA 2K15 the VC is nearly stripped out of the mode in favor of a leveling system where you accrue XP for every action you take."
  • On Total Control: "In response to last year's backlash regarding basic functions being hidden behind the upgrade system, Visual Concepts has surfaced the vital skills that form the backbone of the GM experience. Every GM has full control of trades, free agency, player rotations, coach firings, etc. right from the start. "
  • A new Sim feature: "Strategy-minded players who prefer a hands-off approach should check out SimCast. This new system allows you to manage rotations, strategies, sliders, and points of emphasis before hitting the start button on a sim."
  • New Scouting System: "A new pro scouting system analyzes how your team stacks up against your next opponent. Feedback includes areas of weakness you can exploit in the rival team, an analysis of their biggest threats, the team stats, and suggested points of emphasis."
  • New Draftee Storylines: "Visual Concepts plans to surface several storylines throughout the year based on research it did on the last 20-30 draft classes. The various types of players you could encounter include flash-in-the-pan players who may be at their full potential already on draft day, late bloomers who rise up the draft board at the last minute, players with serious injury concerns that you may not know about unless you him in for a visit."
  • College Stats: "For NBA 2K15 Visual Concepts built an engine to simulate an entire college season, giving you the ability to look at the stats of all draft candidates."
  • Draft Combine is in: "NBA 2K15 adds the draft combine to the mix this year, where you may find out that a school is playing fast and loose with the height and weights they list in their game programs."
  • Better Player Progression: "Visual Concepts has done a significant amount of work on player progression this year. Before, all you could do was train them in the offseason. This year that progression is split between the offseason workouts and in-season training."
  • Better Offseason Logic: "Visual Concepts says the CPU-controlled teams in NBA 2K15 have improved logic this year when managing their roster balance. Teams should better recognize that they don't need to spend on another point guard if their team already has a viable starter and will know to use their resources elsewhere."
Be sure to check out the full article for many more details on MyGM mode.

There'd be a lot of yelling (Jeff & Leftos have a normal talking state that would be considered yelling by most people) and plenty of off-color humor that we'd have to bleep out.

2) If I understand correctly, college stats will be produced for all draft class prospects. How does that translate those of us that create/use custom draft classes? Will the game simply create stats based off of the individual ratings I give certain prospects. If so, will they always be the same or will they be different each time I use that particular draft class?
1) All modes that use the franchise back end (ML, MG & MC)

2) The stats are simulated based on the quality of the player (attributes, etc) and the quality of the teams that he plays. They won't be the exact same each time a draft class is used.

Can we edit contracts and age? I hated seeing Lebron leave for the 76ers in mygm and I hate seeing Garnett, nash ect. retiring after one year. I can do without editing age but I cant live with Lebron on the 76ers lol.

Yes, that's spot on. I think I'm part Mike and part Leftos (or maybe part Bruce Banner and part The Hulk). I usually try to stay cool, calm, and collective, but then I'll explode and can yell with the best of them when I get angry about something. I also try to add a lot of witty (okay, mostly childish) humor and definitely overly abuse TWSS jokes.

Fun little tidbit... I came back to Visual Concepts about the same time Leftos was hired. He initially wasn't sure if he'd like working with me because I seemed kinda reserved to him. Our working relationship and friendship didn't start to blossom until we got into our first (of many) heated argument (yelling match) about some feature. Afterwards, he stopped by my office and thanked me for yelling at him... he's a fan of arguing and it proved to him that I was as passionate about the game as he is.

I love the passion and attitude you and Leftos have for the game. It is a prime example why NBA 2K is considered the pinnacle of sports simulation. Keep up the passionate work, it shines through as proof to you continue growth in sales and the frenzy fan base.

Davez, as much as I want NFL 2K back I worry it will be at the cost to loosing you on the NBA 2K team as you played a key role in developing the GOAT NFL2K5. Is there anyway 2K can clone you? Seems like this year will be the equivalent of NFL 2K5 for NBA 2K.

The NBA team is comprised of a lot of former ex-NFL 2K5ers, so the cloning machine would need to be used a LOT (and on people much more important than me!). I'm also a large dude, so I'm not sure if the material required would be easily attainable...

As for the last part, we all hope you and everyone else enjoy the game that much when you eventually get your hands on it. I know I'm infinitely more satisfied with what we've done this year compared to last (which had a super short cycle, as it was the first forray into next-gen). FWIW, 2K16 will be our first "full" cycle since I've been back and we've already started our brainstorm sessions about features for the franchise modes...

Yes, you can edit contracts and age (birth date and birth year). For MyGM, you have to edit the roster outside of the mode and use custom rosters. For MyLEAGUE, you can also do it while in the mode.

As for Lebron, he stays in Cleveland most of the time, but I have seen simulations where he will leave.

That will also be Da Czar's 1st full cycle.....can I preorder 2k16 now? Lol yo Czar can I get another 10 teams in 10 days, especially with adding pick and role IQ, feel like I'll have to use all of my degree in sports management to work the x's and o's this year.

Interesting. So in regards to answer number 2, what you are saying is a player being drafted out of a MEAC school like Norfolk State will have more impressive stats than the same player being drafted out of ACC school like Duke because of the caliber of competition?

Last question and I apologize if this has been answered but do you have any information on the amount of players that can be created within the game?

For the first question, yes. Though, we don't have the rights to use the conference names.

For the second, 150.

As for Lebron, he stays in Cleveland most of the time, but I have seen simulations where he will leave.
Thanks. Thats a relief. One last question if you dont mind. Has the win/loss records been improved? Meaning like a lot of good teams would hover around 500 and bad team records really dont reflect on how bad they are. Bad to average teams beat good teams consistently.

For example the thunder would win around 45 games with no injuries. Its been that way forever. For good teams I just bump up their starters offensive and defensive awareness then I see the great teams winning 55 to 60. I'm sure thats difficult to get right. Thanks for answering everyone questions.

Yes, it's improved. The average win total for the team with the best record in the league has been ~62 wins in my simulations (with a high of 74 over a few hundred 80-year soaks). 20.9 for the worst team (with a low of 11).

double digit assist leaders, high win totals for good teams, actual scouting with college stats..

any other miracles the team has conjured?

I am a "franchise mode" gamer almost exclusively. The bold part is just music to my ears. It really is. You guys have outdone yourselves already and I haven't even touched NBA2K15. I can't imagine how much further you guys and your insane team will take "franchise mode", and the NBA 2K franchise in general. I'm strapped in and ready, though.

I'm not sure. Definitely before October 7th.

(I usually find out when it's posted on OS...)
