For anyone that has played multiple games, I haven't bought NHL in a long time and from what I have been reading and played in the demo, it is night and day from what I remember on the thumbs.
I can't sympathize with all the missing features as those don't really matter to me much; however I do understand they will be deal breakers for some people.
From what I remember in NHL is that it never mattered who I was playing I always just did the same strategy against every team in order to win games. Do you see any variance from game to game? If not it will make the games very tiring for me, as I lost my luster a long time ago due to the redundant methods that I would make it about 20 games into the season and never touch it again.
To me that is the biggest deal breaker of them all if its just rinse and repeat.
I'm like many of you. This was a day one purchases for me but many of the things being discussed here are starting to make me question that.
These are basically game-killers for me if they're true, so can anyone confirm or comment on the following?
1. Can we at least edit players jersey numbers? Or at the very least are retired jerseys still in the game so rookies and traded players don't wear retired numbers?
2. Can we really not play AHL games? And if not, do we at least have AHL teams where we can place players not on the NHL squad? And if we can, do those players accumulate stats in the minors?
3. Can we really NOT draft our own players? Does the CPU do it automatically?
If all of these prove to be the case, then I am going to do the unthinkable... not buy NHL this year. It will be the first time ever for me as I've owned every copy since NHLPA 93 on the Sega Genesis.
I ended up putting Anthony Mantha on the Wings roster, and they gave him #1 (Sawchuk's number) I didn't try and change it, I was on for 5 minutes. That was also just in roster movements, not GM mode.
So played a game online and maybe I'm just really use to super poke check but the guy scored 3 goals on me just skating straight into my defence. U poke check and stick lift but the guy gets possession of the puck right away. There's no good way to knock the puck off someone's stick except to check, but then your leaving yourself open to get out of position. I just want a game that rewards you to play hockey smartly and not who has the best swerving ability. It's going to be one long year without eashl.
1. You can edit numbers and captaincy in the Be a GM mode. It does have retired numbers in red so that you cannot assign that number to someone now.
2. You cannot play AHL games. You do have a minor league affiliate and can send players down. It does not look like they will accumulate stats in the minors from what I could tell in the brief time I hopped into the mode. (don't want to spend too much time of my 6 hours not playing the game). But when you send someone down they don't play games or anything, they just are in the minors and are waiting to come back up, hopefully progressing.
3. I cannot comment as I didn't sim anywhere. But seems to be the case from what others have said.
No way to sim while you are on the bench in Be-A-Pro. Basically you HAVE to watch the CPU vs CPU gameplay from the bench and have no option to skip it in anyway.
No option to ''Play against a Friend'' in HUT.
I wrote that list in about 8 mins btw, so yeah I probably missed alot of stuff from on it......................
........................Just like EA seems to miss alot of stuff from NHL 15...
....In the year 2014. On the freakking PS4/Xbox One hardware!
This game feels like an PS2 game for me. And not in the good kind of nostalgic kinda of way.
Don't get me wrong, gameplay is good, it's solid and it feels fresh. Problem is, you can only play the game for so long but if there is nothing to do other then play meaningless games that really don't feel like they matter. You get bored and there is no replay factor and you don't feel like you want to play again.
Aside from people who love HUT and play it all year around, this game is gonna get boring very very fast. And the sad thing about all of this is, thinking about it as a from a business point of view, could EA be really that stupid that they wouldn't have certain CORE components of a game in it, just so more people would play HUT and buy those precious packs instead? Or could they just hope people don't care, buy the game anyways and then re-install the modes in NHL 16,17, etc and advertise them as a Brand-New-and-Exciting-gamemodes?
I don't know, I just can't see it being a situation where they din't have enough time to include a damn player edit option, or hell an ACTUAL Be-A-GM Draft, Fantasy Draft, etc, all those little things that are missing, did they really just not give so much of a crap about those that they just decided to drop them? Or they din't have time to fix those up?
I can understand the EASHL part not being included for some parts, it not being included due to the 12 player physics and the game not being able to handle 12 actual players on the ice (Even as that was advertised as one of the Big Things this year..) but the fact that they can't include an damn DRAFT option, or make you able to Sim yourself sitting on the bench till your next shift instead of being forced to watch AI vs AI play for good few minutes is just.. I don't even know.
Sadly, this is by far the biggest joke of a game release I have witnessed in quite some time. You can count on some heads being chopped off at EA Sports NHL team very very soon
And yes, I will still buy it, and will still play it for abit. I will buy it for 2 euros off Gamestop for changing a few PS3 games I have stored which I have no use for. Yeah, 2 euros for NHL 15, that's the price tag I will pay for it. And that's already being generous for this game.
The impressions are making me more excited about this game. Everything negative said about this game has absolutely nothing to do with gameplay. Looks like they put out a quality game to start next-gen.
Only the most hardcore fans are upset thus far. The vast majority that play this game could careless about spending hours editing players or watching replays. Yes, no EASHL is unfortunately; but in due time, OTP will be in so it's not that major of an issue. There are still plenty of modes that offer tons of value for your dollar.
Dont want ea to do this again? dont buy the game if you buy this game with missing elements they are going to think its ok for them to do that. want a voice speak with your pocket.
This has not turned out well for EA...as I've said before, I am strictly an offline gamer, so the lack of modes was not as huge an issue for me..but hearing about these little suprises has me second guessing everything. I was giving the game the benefit of the doubt...even defending it at times...but this is clearly an unfinished product being presented to us as something that is polished. EA, as a corporation (not necessarily only the Burnaby team) should be ashamed of themselves. I know it would have been a nightmare to have to push the game back another year...but clearly this would have been beneficial for the consumer (clearly EA does not care about this).
I am completely on the fence as to whether or not to buy this game now...the fact that something as integral to Be A GM as the ability to draft for youself, has been left out is inexcusable!

That alone is concerning enough. I'd bet $100 that they took retired jerseys out. Dang.
*Check that, I just read Bigwill's comments. This MIGHT, and let me stress MIGHT, save the game for me. I know it sounds petty, but this would have been the straw that breaks the camel's back. I never actually play minor league games but I loved the fact that it was there, and even more so I love putting my minor league rosters together, along with seeing players accumulate stats. This game has gone from a must-buy, day one purchase, to a no thanks, not purchasing, back to a maybe I'll get it. What an emotional roller coaster for a hockey video game fanatic.
From what I'm reading, I'm wondering why NHL 14 wasn't released on Xbox One/PS4, since it doesn't seem like the extra time they had was used to get more things NHL 15.

I suspect that most hardcore fans, such as myself, will be doing just that. I have been there from the beginning...NHLPA 93 and have owned every game since (I still have them all). So not getting the newest one hurts a little. But I refuse to be a goof and give EA the thumbs up on doing a terrible job. They must learn, that this kind of crap is entirely unacceptable. If they wanted $25, then okay...maybe, but sure as **** I will not pay a cent more than that.
Kickstart anyone? I would give money to any developer willing to give us a nhl game thats worth $60 and has realistic gameplay not catered to 10 year old children who whine when they cant turn on a dime or cant score glitch goals every time.
This is a great idea. I was thinking about this as well, because it seems like there could be a couple of things going on here.
1. This is EA NHL's swan song, and they won't be around for another year (which would leave us without ANY new hockey games)
2. This is a result of having 0 competition for a number of years now.
Either way, somehow getting another hockey game back on the market is going to be an integral part of hockey gaming moving forward.

Welcome back to 2006.
dude, get off the fence and send them a message...don't give your money because they will think that no matter what pile of **** they put out, people will buy it. You want quality? make them accountable when they don't provide it.

Its a reality of next-gen games. It cost millions and millions of dollars and they have to release the gamer before its ready to recover their investment. this is not EA, its the whole industry
