You must not see "drop it like it's hot" and "grinding" on there... If you are in your twenties at least, you have heard those songs a million times
Yeah, that's why I tried to say there's not too many super pop tracks, but still a few. I remember hearing that Snoop track a lot during my senior year (2001-2002) but not the Clipse one. I tried to stay away from a bit of the popular rap back then. That was my Deltron/Hieroglyphics phase.

Clicked the Spotify thing to listen and the first song to play was Personal Jesus by Depache Mode. The first thing I'm going to do when I get my 2k is mute that song, smh what a horrible song.
Edit: Then the second song that plays is River Styx by Black Rebel Motorcycle....second thing I'll do is mute that too.
Edit Then the third song Romantic Rights by Death from Above, third thing I'll mute. Lol 3 straight terrible songs and I rock with Pharrell.
The goal of a game like 2K should be that you release songs that are relatively unknown, underground, unique and upcoming.
Most of these songs are well known songs that will get repetitive real fast or don't even suit the game (Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus, what the hell was he thinking).
2K11 had a perfect soundtrack. The last few editions they really butchered it.
it's alright. i wish it was more hip hop heavy, personally. i actually wish that they'd let you use your own music over the FULL game and not just clips here and there.
what'd be kinda cool is if 2k worked something out with spotify where pharell (or his assistant) made a playlist that was constantly evolving to keep it fresh, like once a week or something. if it meant i had to buy a spotify subscription, i'd totally do that.
Looks like I'm muting everything this year..lol. KD should've picked the songs, would've been much better. Jay-Z & Lebron did a good job aswell the last two years, 2K12 wasn't bad either. But this.....

Only i like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death from Above 1979, Depeche Mode, Lorde, No Doubt, One Republic
All other is awful rap and trashy american rock (Red Hot Chilli Peppers)

BRMC is actually one of my favorite bands and I have seen them live but their music doesn't suit this game. The NBA, the players and most of the fans go hand in hand with the rap and hip hop culture. Not with blues rock and new wave.

As always, I feel musical tastes are always a matter of opinion. As such, I am thankful that the majority does not rule in an all-or-virtually-nothing fashion with the 2K soundtrack. There are many, many, many 2K gamers who do not care for rap and hip-hop. There's also many more who thoroughly enjoy rap & hip-hop, but only certain styles (i.e. old school, current, pop, underground, etc.). With such a wide possible variance, I think it's a good idea to provide options from a soundtrack perspective. I often do not prefer pop-rap for my basketball video gaming experience (or my real life basketball experience, for that matter).
I'd say most of my soundtrack listening occurs while in menus and editing rosters so in that case, I'm just looking for something that listenable and fresh. At least this way, users have the option of customizing their soundtrack to fit their needs and preferences.
There's always a head scratcher on these soundtracks and for me it's Drop It Like It's Hot. I think it's more baffling by the fact that you have an entire catalog of Snoop songs that could easily be awesome to bump to while playing 2K and that's the one chosen?
I know obviously not all of them are family friendly but you can edit them like ones in the past. Not bad overall though.
