Grammy Award Winner Pharrell Williams to Curate NBAŽ 2K15 Soundtrack

Creative mogul and entertainment visionary to hand-select the most extensive and musically diverse soundtrack in NBA 2K history

2K today announced a new collaboration with internationally-renowned artist and producer Pharrell Williams to curate the most extensive and unique soundtrack compilation in NBA 2K franchise history for NBAŽ 2K15, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*. The partnership brings together one of music’s most creative minds with one of the most successful entertainment properties of the last decade.

“It was a cool experience. I tried to curate songs that were diverse but yet still proved to be motivational to gamers,” said Pharrell. “It was important to me that the music complemented the on-court action of NBA basketball in NBA 2K15. I hope everyone enjoys it.”

A renowned visionary across music, fashion, and design, Pharrell has served as a pop-culture force since his days as a founding member of N.E.R.D and the Neptunes to his latest venture with multi-media creative collective i am OTHER. His work includes producing tracks for some of the biggest albums of the decade, such as Kendrick Lamar’s “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City” and Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange,” as well as hit singles "Happy," “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke and “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk.

“Pharrell’s passion and reputation as a visionary producer and expertise from working with the NBA will be evident in the largest and most eclectic NBA 2K soundtrack ever,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for 2K. “We really listened to our fans’ feedback on how we could improve their experience from a music standpoint, and we’re confident Pharrell’s collaboration in NBA 2K15 will impress players as much as it’s impressed us.”

Pharrell’s soundtrack selections will be revealed later this summer. Follow @NBA2K on Twitter and use the hashtag #YourTimeHasCome for the latest NBA 2K15 news.

No Happy. This soundtrack is really diverse and great. More on that later.

Also, Weird Al is great too.

Am I the only one who genuinely enjoys listening to the song Happy? Lol. Or at least the only one that doesn't hate it?

It seems like every other song on the radio these days says "ft. Pharrell" in the title. He gets around, and hopefully that means he has seen a lot of music and will pick well.

The System of a Down choice will be interesting.

Only if it's Jurrasic Park. That would fit well.

Yeah probably lol. Are most of the songs on the soundtrack mainstream? Are there any underground songs?

They haven't had the rights to MSG in the past, don't know for 2K15.

Nobody goes to the store and is like "Oh, Pharrell is doing the soundtrack for 2k15? Looks like I have to buy it"

Not mad at the choice, I'd just rather have 2k focus on the more important problems about the game

I'll never understand posts like this. Mike Wang isn't picking Pharrell to do the soundtrack to the game. None of the gameplay designers are involved with this, so how exactly are they not focusing on more important problems with the game by doing this?

It just seems like they promote all of this casual stuff and focus on things like locker codes and diamond legends etc ... seems like they ignore the real issues. We'll see come october tho, I'm hoping they make some fixes.

I mean, why is it even on the cover?

I don't agree with his post on this particular matter but it's not about what Mike Wang does or doesn't... it's about budget. How much money do you allow to each departments. If Pharrell costs 10 million dollars then that's 10 millions that doesn't go to say the gameplay department (to get maybe more employes, a better structure, more equipment, a new technology etc).

This still doesn't make sense because it doesn't take into account the amount of money they're making to be able to spend on this. We haven't heard that they're cutting budget on anything so why would the assumption be that those departments aren't getting proper funds? And as I've already mentioned to one person, you don't know what they're paying these people to be apart of the game. We don't even know what the starting budget for a game such as this is in the first place to even make a guess on how much his potential fee is affecting the budget.

No we don't know anything, it was just exemples. But what they spent on Pharrell they didn't spend it on anything else and they don't have unlimited funds. That's all we know.

Like I said I don't agree with jpshua15 but I just don't agree either with the 'It doesn't affect Mike Wang or gameplay developpers' argument either.
