Grammy Award Winner Pharrell Williams to Curate NBAŽ 2K15 Soundtrack

Creative mogul and entertainment visionary to hand-select the most extensive and musically diverse soundtrack in NBA 2K history

2K today announced a new collaboration with internationally-renowned artist and producer Pharrell Williams to curate the most extensive and unique soundtrack compilation in NBA 2K franchise history for NBAŽ 2K15, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*. The partnership brings together one of music’s most creative minds with one of the most successful entertainment properties of the last decade.

“It was a cool experience. I tried to curate songs that were diverse but yet still proved to be motivational to gamers,” said Pharrell. “It was important to me that the music complemented the on-court action of NBA basketball in NBA 2K15. I hope everyone enjoys it.”

A renowned visionary across music, fashion, and design, Pharrell has served as a pop-culture force since his days as a founding member of N.E.R.D and the Neptunes to his latest venture with multi-media creative collective i am OTHER. His work includes producing tracks for some of the biggest albums of the decade, such as Kendrick Lamar’s “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City” and Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange,” as well as hit singles "Happy," “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke and “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk.

“Pharrell’s passion and reputation as a visionary producer and expertise from working with the NBA will be evident in the largest and most eclectic NBA 2K soundtrack ever,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for 2K. “We really listened to our fans’ feedback on how we could improve their experience from a music standpoint, and we’re confident Pharrell’s collaboration in NBA 2K15 will impress players as much as it’s impressed us.”

Pharrell’s soundtrack selections will be revealed later this summer. Follow @NBA2K on Twitter and use the hashtag #YourTimeHasCome for the latest NBA 2K15 news.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, NBA 2K15 is not yet rated by the ESRB. NBA 2K15 is scheduled for release on October 7 in North America, and on October 10 internationally for the PlayStationŽ3 and PlayStationŽ4 computer entertainment systems, the Xbox One all-in-one games and entertainment system and Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft; and Windows PC.

I don't see why people are freaking out about Happy possibly being in the game. You're going to have the option to turn the song off - what does it matter?

I doubt it, but hopefully they'll have some actual gameplay news to tell us in the livestream today. I'm not getting my hopes up after the massive letdown that was the Shaq livestream, though.
I think the the song thing matter because no one want to shorten a already short soundtrack.

Anyways I personally don't mind but I don't get 2k's mind set on doing this. I mean people hated that in 2k13 with Jay Z so why do it again?

Also that cover is terrible.

#NBA2K15 will feature "largest & most eclectic @NBA2K soundtrack ever..." Soundtrack selections will be revealed later this summer @Pharrell
Why don't we try seeing what's on the soundtrack before raising the pitchforks on how bad or short it is.

I normally turn off almost every song on the soundtrack. It appears that that won't be changing. I honestly don't even know who Pharrell is.

I sure wish that we could rip our own music onto the HD and play it during games.

Hard to believe you know more about him than me after making that comment...

and if you know him I would think you'd know the "new" Pharrell is still producing for a variety of artists, hip hop and otherwise..."Happy" is just a single of his personal album..

basketball is just as rooted in jazz and soul as if is in hip hop....so I don't think it should be limited to any category anyway, just want to hear good music...

I like the cover art and I'm some what intrigued by Pharrell "curating" the soundtrack. Hoping it's a big, eclectic sounding soundtrack than what we've seen in 2K13 & 2K14.

I answered your question and you wanted to say something similar to that? So you were looking for a moment to stick up for 2K? Bruh, I see your ways on this forum. Attack the Live game. Defend the 2K game. I'm really not that guy. I'm on my chill.

But switching lanes - the reason for Barkley being omitted was unclear. Back to my original thought - 2K can find a deal to get Grammy winning producers to pick songs for their soundtrack but can't find a way to come to agreement to put NBA legends in the game.

You do know there is a thing called negotiations, right?

Edit: And I don't mind Pharrell being in the game - I'm a hip hop fan so its a win for me - except if they add 'Happy' ... seriously ....

For whatever it's worth, I recall Charles Barkley doing a radio interview just prior to the 2K13 release and he stated (in a roundabout way) that he does not like having his name used by the NBA. I believe he was not in favor of the manner with which they treated retired players monetarily (referring to others - such as teammates - not himself).

I think Barkley said he initially opted out of 2K13's Dream Team approach, asking for more money (that he said he wanted to contribute to the retired players) than 2K was willing or able to pay, well beyond what they offered other stars. Finally, Barkley admitted that it was a personal phone call from Jay-Z that led him to signing with 2K for a year. I think he said something along the lines of, "You don't say no to Jay-Z."

In short, I think some players just do not want to participate, whether the money is right or not. 2K has a very large portion of the NBA's greatest players and their teams so I'm always thankful for that. I'm still with you about potentially adding at least a few other teams though (say, the 2000 Lakers, 2007 Warriors, 2007 Celtics, etc.).

It isn't Jay Z though, so they aren't doing it again. When they mention System of a Down as having a track on it, I don't think you'll have to worry about to many songs like Happy.

As for the shorten an already short soundtrack, it says largest soundtrack to date. So once again, I'm not seeing anything to worry about.

Been a fan of the guy since the early 2000s. You gotta give it to 2K for their media presentation, they just get the best in the business!

Pharell is a great producer and like some of the comments I've read in this thread, this should bring the soundtrack game up a lot like it used to be. His music would be diverse as well with Hip Hop, Alternative, etc he's very well rounded in the music industry.

So, the main question(s) I have is:

Can I wear his hat in MyCareer? And will it be free to wear?

I am so happy, no pun intended. I hope he puts his NERD stuff.

The dude with the goofy hat?

I am officially too old for this crap.

# 55 dal_hawk @ 07/15/14 04:58 PM
The covers are all starting to look the same. I like the city in the background but at least filter the color to represent Durants team colors.

# 56 ShogunTake @ 07/15/14 06:18 PM
I like Pharrell. The main reason I've heard hate about him is because of his true mainstream push last year, before that hardly anybody had heard of him but he has been producing some great songs longer than a decade.

I know I'm too old. I'm a classic rock guy. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. I realize that they have to go with what's popular with the younger crowd.

Should mean Universal Mind Control'll probalby be on there too. Not the Common song I'd hope for, but eh.

Should be interesting, all the same.

# 59 Gramps91 @ 07/15/14 06:58 PM
Man I love System. Hope some more metal/rock makes it.

Well they just said that Happy is not on the soundtrack on the stream
